Ilkeston sign ex-Nott’m Forest, Newcastle, Wigan, QPR, Scunthorpe, Mansfield player

Ilkeston sign ex-Nott’m Forest, Newcastle, Wigan, QPR, Scunthorpe, Mansfield player James Perch in a move that has gone down well with fans.

It has been described as a ridiculous signing for the club considering Perch started 31 League Two games last season, including being part of Mansfield’s playoff run in.

He is also versatile, experienced and as per tomhwilliams23 on Twitter, far too good for that level of football.

ILKESTON STATEMENT:

We are delighted to announce the signing of former Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town defender, James Perch.

An impressive career in the Premier League and EFL spanning 19 years, making over 500 appearances as a professional.

Ian Deakin says “James is a significant signing for the football club, he is a constant professional in everything he does.

“From an early age we were at (Nottingham) Forest together, his attitude and application since then is a credit to himself.

“He’s been a wonderful player over a long time and his longevity is frightening.

“We’re really looking forward to have him at the club, he will add experience, quality and steel to our side. His leadership skills are something that we will need going forward, especially in a league as tough as this (Northern Premier League)

“We’re delighted to have James on board, it’s a really big signing for us and I’m sure he’ll settle in with the lads well.”

The club also said: We are delighted to announce the signing of Jakub Kruszynski on a month’s loan from Mansfield Town.

Manager Ian Deakin says “Jakub is a wonderfully talented footballer and is a young professional at Mansfield Town.

“We’ve brought Jakub in to give competition to places within our existing squad, but to also bolster our squad.

“It’s a squad game in terms that we need to have 16 really strong players to be going out there on a Saturday.

“Jakub has come into his own in the past year or so, he has excelled at his parent club, (Mansfield) being in and around the first team squad, performing consistently well.

“We’re delighted to have Jakub, he’s a real talent and can play in many difference positions as an attacking player, adding even more quality to an already strong squad.

“We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in an Ilkeston Town shirt.”

The club also have a new manager, replacing Gary Hayward – it’s all going on!

They said in a statement: Ilkeston Town Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Ian Deakin as our new First-Team Manager.

Ian, alongside Craig Swinscoe, Adam Campbell and Ben Hutchinson will take charge of the Robins training sessions mid-week, taking charge of their first match this Saturday at the Microlise New Manor Ground as we host Worksop Town in the Northern Premier League.

Ian Deakin and Craig Swinscoe will be no strangers to the Robins supporters, both having played and coached previously at the Microlise New Manor Ground. Swinscoe and Deakin were part of the coaching team that took us to back-to-back promotions in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns.

Former Middlesbrough and Celtic striker Ben Hutchinson and Mansfield Town Academy graduate Adam Campbell join Deakin’s as first team coaches.

Whilst speaking with the media team earlier this evening Deakin said “It’s good to be back, I’ve got very fond memories here and hopefully we can get the place rocking again. As a team we are really looking forward to getting started and bringing good times back to the football club.”
