Former Premier League player Steven Fletcher surprises fans as he speaks on making the decision to sign for League Two Wrexham.
The 36 year old departed Dundee United earlier this year having been relegated from the Scottish Premiership under Jim Goodwin, leading to him refusing to make the move to the Scottish Championship and had sicne been waiting to find the right club.
An offer was made by the Red Dragons for Fletcher, who scored 10 goals in his time at Tannadice, and as quick as that, he’s in a Wrexham kit and ready to go.
Welcome to Wrexham, Steven Fletcher!
The experienced striker signs a deal with the Club until the end of the season.

STATEMENT:
Wrexham AFC are pleased to announce the signing of Scottish striker Steven Fletcher on a free transfer, subject to international clearance.
Fletcher, 36, arrives following his release from Dundee United, for whom he scored ten goals in 39 games last season.
A Scotland international with ten goals from 39 caps for his national team, Fletcher arrives at the STōK Cae Ras having made nearly 700 career appearances across spells including in the top flights of England, Scotland and France.
And on his move to North Wales, Fletcher said: “Hopefully I can bring a lot of experience. I’m 36, I’m still fit and still raring to go.
“One of the biggest selling points was the ambition of the Club, and if I can help with that then great.
“I don’t think you can not see what has been happening at Wrexham – it’s been a great experience for the fans, players and owners so hopefully we can continue that.”
Fletcher started his career with Hibernian in Scotland, scoring 52 goals in 189 appearances before earning a move to Burnley for a then-Club-record fee in 2009. He was their top scorer and Players’ Player of the Year, before signing for Wolves for their then joint club-record fee, and scored 22 goals in 61 top-flight games for them.
Fletcher next signed for Sunderland, where he remained until the end of the 2015/16 season. He also spent time on loan with Marseille during his final season with the Black Cats.
After 36 goals in 124 league games for Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship, and then two seasons with Stoke City in the same league – for whom he scored 12 league goals – Fletcher returned to Scotland last season.
He left in the summer and now signs for Wrexham as a free agent, and will be added as the 22nd player in the Club’s EFL 2023/24 Squad List.
On signing the striker, manager Phil Parkinson said: “I’m really pleased with the addition of Steve to the squad. He’s missed football through pre-season but he’s trained today with the lads and it’s good to have him on board.
“His pedigree speaks for itself, and he’s played most of his career at a very high level. He’s an excellent professional and that’s really important to fit in with the group here.”

@davekeighley80: Not sure on this at all! Hope I am wrong but we have palmer for that role and he doesn’t score ….
@JCKPhotographer: Why? Is this what Parky really wants? Players at the end of their careers? Hoping they still have something left to give? I get we want promotion right away but I don’t think this is a good long term strategy to be a sustainable club.
@Johnhalton123: Go on lad. Show us how it’s done 👍👍
@Lew_carto: Top signing for u lot was class for us 2 seasons ago which is pretty recent
@MigLarrosa: @Wrexham_AFC Connor Wickham on a free next?

@GaryHart6: Still a very clever player; good signing.
@Rhys_Cooper96: Decent signing, knows where the net is! Up the town!
@ScottDav1996: Cracking signing if you can keep him fit. We ran him into the ground at Stoke, not sure if that’s indicative of his quality, or of ours at that time 😅
@gazwiliams: Super Stevie Fletcher 💪 #WxmAFC
