“I know I’m a world class goalkeeper!” – James Trafford reacts to praise from his manager Scott Parker over his saves vs Watford.
The Clarets goalkeeper confidently embraced what his manager Scott Parker’s had to say about him after a standout performance in a 2-1 victory against Watford on Good Friday.
Parker labelled Trafford “world-class” for his crucial saves, including a stunning fingertip stop to deny Edo Kayembe, which paved the way for Burnley’s comeback.
The 22-year-old has been pivotal to Burnley’s promotion push, conceding only 14 goals and keeping 29 clean sheets in 43 Championship games this season. He is unsurprisingly also up for an EFL Award. His form has also attracted interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United.

“There’s no denying at the beginning of the season, the work we all had to do with Traff and where he was, there was a lot of work,” Parker told BBC Radio Lancashire.
“He needed to engage in that. He needed to take a breath and take stock and decide where he wanted to be, and to be fair to him, I’ve seen someone mature. There’s no denying that he’s a world-class keeper.
“How you judge keepers is in big moments.
“Even at the back end of the game. They’re down to nine men, he’s barely had anything to do. Fella hits one from 30 yards and he has to pull off a save.
“Not sleeping, diligent. He’s just a top, top keeper.”
James Trafford to the club website: “It was a brilliant Friday to be honest. We didn’t start very well and obviously we were a goal down and we probably deserved to be a goal down. The way we reacted through the game, we did it with a lot of ability and a lot of effort. We got the win, and it was really good.”
Watford took the lead in the early stages and asked plenty of questions of the visitors.
“Yes, they were good to be fair, we knew what we were coming up against and we didn’t start brilliantly. That’s full credit to them.
“The game changed though, we scored and then went on to win.
“I’m happy with the performance but the main thing is that we won. The first save onto the crossbar, it was really good. Luckily, Flem scored straight after it, and it sort of changed the game and even after that we were the better team.
“Yes, 30 unbeaten, we’ve done it with a whole lot of grace, it’s brilliant. But the main thing is where we are in the table and how close we are to our goal.”
Looking ahead to the game against Sheffield United: “It’s a big game, I think everyone knows and we’re not naïve, it’s a big game but we’ll stick to our plan. Regardless of what the result was today or whatever is going on, we know exactly what we need to do, and we should produce it.”
Twitter users tweeted as James Trafford reacts to praise from Scott Parker…
@Burnley133: Without Trafford’s save, we don’t score the equaliser. #twitterclarets
@Marcowhite74: Great goal keeper, was excellent for BWFC. Great Lad and will go on to be England’s number 1
@Flacky156: Do you remember the days where world class was reserved for Messi and Ronaldo
@TheFLZone: James Trafford is a very good goalkeeper and will probably be England number 1 at some point. But world class 😳😳😳
@BFC84Ash: A lad enjoying his football, great to see
@jakerrey: World class playing in championship 🤣 problem is probably thinks he’s world class
@Sufc_alex07: He’s a good keeper, but are we all forgetting about last season?
@MSearle1791: Clearly a tongue in cheek comment… his gaffa has called him world class and he’s going with it 😂 lads been brilliant this year !
@JP__Franklin: Personally think more English players should have an arrogance about them. But perspective is important, you would not be at Burnley if you were world class
@GeordieNorta: I’ll forever be hesitant to question the recruitment of the club and for now he’s a Burnley player and I wish him and Scotty P well but all that aside … he comes across like an absolute helmet.
@TheJackDearden: Some of us knew already….👇
@RyanH_LFC: World class is the most overused term in football. You’re playing in the championship mate
