Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris explains what caused the furious bust-up with Son Heung-min during Monday night’s 1-0 win against Everton.
The coming to blows, which manager Jose Mourinho has described as ‘beautiful’ came as the players went towards the tunnel for half time. Lloris sprinted 40 yards straight to confront Son, causing the pair to be separated by their team-mates as their altercation turned ugly.
The Frenchman was furious that Son chose to give up on the ball following the loss of possession by Spurs, which led Richarlison to going close with an equaliser, nearly costing his side’s lead, gained from Michael Keane’s own goal in the 24th minute.

However, the pair ended up embracing in front of the Sky Sports cameras shortly after the final whistle before Lloris then played down the incident during his post-match interview.
He said: “It just belongs to the changing room.
“Outside you can say whatever you want. There is a lot of respect between all the players in the changing room.
“What happened between me and Sonny is just something that is part of football sometimes. But there is no problem at all.
“You can see at the end of the game we are more than happy to be part of the team and have these three points.”
Asked whether it was Richarlison’s effort that made him angry, Lloris replied: “Yeah, I think to concede a chance a few seconds before half-time because we weren’t pressing properly… yeah, that annoyed me.
“But it’s part of football and we move on.
“As I said before, we are in a situation we need to fight against. We are not happy to be in this position.
“The most important thing today is to stay focussed for the team and do everything to finish as high as we can. We can only do it as a team.
“When you play a season like this one, it’s very easy to fall apart as a team, but today we showed that we’re still together and ready to fight and compete until the end.”
The result saw Tottenham climb above Burnley and Sheffield United into eighth place in the Premier League table.
Lloris hopes to end the season on a high after a frustrating few months for the club.
He added: “There’s still five games to go.”
“Let’s finish the season in a good way and then analyse the season later.”
When asked about the incident, Mourinho said: “It was beautiful.
“It was probably a consequence of our meetings. Probably if you want to blame someone for that it’s me because I was critical of my boys. They are not in my opinion critical enough with each other.
“I ask them to be more demanding. I ask them to demand more from others. I ask them to put colleagues under pressure to give everything for everybody.
“It was a situation where at the end of the first half an amazing kid that everyone loves like Sonny a team boy but the captain felt you had to give more than what you gave.
“[Maybe] a couple of bad words I don’t know if they push or not but it’s something important for the team to grow up. If you want to grow up you need to demand from each other, you need to be strong personalities.
“A half-time I told them when you have this reaction I have no doubts in the second half that you are going to stick together until the end.”
“Not interested in Fair Play awards,” says Jose Mourinho when asked about Lloris and Son’s clash at halftime in the game vs Everton.

Disgusting from Lloris. All he had to do was wait 10 seconds to get away from the cameras. Not good enough. Well out of line.

As a father I can understand Lloris. Sometimes you just have to set your Son straight.

Funny that Son looked directly at the camera to see if it was recording ?

Keeper got his end up and demanded the forwards work harder back, Son gave him the bird, the Frenchman didn’t take it too well.

They are of equal importance and it takes the same effort to replace both
Son is great, but there is a lot of players who can take his position on the other hand good goalkeepers are scarce
