Huge scale protest planned as Birmingham fail to convince fans with update over club’s ownership

A huge scale protest is being planned as Birmingham City fail to convince their fans with an update over the club’s ownership.

The Championship outfit say that they are in talks over a proposed investment deal for both St Andrew’s Stadium and a shareholding in the club.

This comes after protests by supporters were planned ahead of the match against West Bromwich Albion next week. Paul Richardson and Maxi Lopez, former stars of Barcelona, failed to purchase the club in last year’s bid.

Now Blues have issued a statement affirming that due diligence has been done over any potential new investor, but it isn’t fooling anyone judging by the reaction it’s had in the comments section of the Twitter post…

CLUB STATEMENT:

Birmingham City Football Club would like to issue the following statement.

The Club can confirm that talks have been initiated between a shareholder and a third party over a proposed investment deal for both St. Andrew’s Stadium and a shareholding in the Club.

For legal reasons, the Club is restricted in what it is able to say publicly regarding this matter and are not currently at liberty to name the prospective investor or to provide any further details regarding the negotiations.

Due diligence is currently being undertaken by the prospective investor.

Where possible, the Club will endeavour to keep supporters informed and all official information will be published on BCFC.com and the Club’s official social media channels.

It was too much for a section supporters who, after a quarter hour of their last home match, filed along the Kop Stand to a position in front of directors’ box.

There they unfurled a banner that read ‘#BSHLOUT’ to refer to Birmingham Sports Holdings’ Hong Kong-based holding company.

St Andrew’s broke into a chorus of “Get out of our Club” describing the owners’ faces as “faceless” in an echo last season’s protests that also erupted at the beginning of January.

Two supporters ran onto the field and escaped Gil Merrick’s lower shortly thereafter, before returning to their stand.

After the final whistle, a group of supporters remained to voice their support for John Eustace and the team. However, they reiterated their desire that the current owners be sold.

The constant struggle on the pitch has worn down supporters, but these issues have been exacerbated by the lack of transparency into ownership structures and an EFL investigation into possible involvement of Wang Yaohui (an issue raised in Parliament) and the failure of a recent takeover attempt.

Supporters are also upset at the lack investment on both sides. Most notably, a failure to repair two stands that have reduced the capacity by one third.

Twitter users reacted with a huge scale protest planned as Birmingham fail to convince fans with an update over the club’s ownership…

@AyJay66: Only doing it because they’re catching wind of what’s planned to happen vs WBA. Would be very very surprised if there’s any legs to this

@Walker90: I smell something 🤢

@Bluey_Bcfc: Sorry Blues I ain’t falling for that one, nice try 😂😂😂 #BSHLOUT

@barbs_paul: “Alexa, make a statement that doesn’t actually say anything”

@bluenose199011: Just take a look at the replies. Everyone knows the bullshit and no one is falling for it. Game over for them. These protests need to be massive.

@daz_atkinson: Not wanting to be negative but the inner cynic in me thinks this may have been released to avoid a potential protest! #BCFC

@RailwayEnd: So an anonymous bloke is buying some of the club from a bloke who doesn’t officially own the club at all? Yeah, sounds legit. 100% of #BSHLOUT or it doesn’t count.

@tomrichman94: Probably seen all the threats of protests for the West Brom game. I won’t believe anything until they’re holding a scarf in front of the Kop 😂

@princeybcfc: All that statement is, is a please don’t start the protests up again. We’ve got less than half a season to go. Honest, we are selling. Bahhhh. Not listening to anything that comes out those statements until a deal has been done, signed, sealed and paid for. Normal play resumes

@Adam___7539: Sounds like they’re just trying to stop your fans trying to get our game called off in a couple of weeks. Even if it inconveniences me and all the other baggies im the away end with your protests for the game, Im still 100% behind your protests, and most baggies are the same

@ScottJordan86: Don’t believe a fucking word of it!!! Club shitting it we’ll get the baggies game abandoned and now this 🤥🤥🤥🤥 full of shit #bcfc

@Foxymush: Believe it when I see it

@sberesford95: Grounds already been sold four times at this point ain’t it? 🤦🏻‍♂️🥴

@bcfcxjack: wtf it’s almost like they’re panicking about a protest!?!?!?

@bluenose199011: I hope this is true but I dont believe it. The protests must happen until these fuckers are gone.

@Matt_J1875: One thing all #BCFC fans can be assured of though is that protests WORK. This is not a coincidence. Fuck the naysayers and let’s get into them now for the entire season. They’re RATTTTTTTTLLLLED. THE RATSSSSSSS.

@DWestwood88:
Faceless owner number 1: “they’re talking about protests again.”
Faceless owner number 2: “release a statement saying an interested party has come along”
Faceless owner number 1: “lol great idea that’ll work”
This doesn’t mean anything until they’re gone!
#BSHLOUT #BCFC

@BrummieBrad: This cant dampen down the protest talk at all.

@LeeAHinton95: In other words… Here’s some false information to prevent the planned protests.

@Ell1875: Protests must ramp up now!!

@Neil_Moxley: Releasing this, now, is naive and actually threatens any deal progressing. Negotiations are at a delicate stage. It won’t happen during this window and it is highly unlikely during February too. As per usual, those at the top have got this horribly wrong. Add it to the list…

@NorthBSHA: Seems positive but think about these cunts for a second. Protests about to be upped and this has broke, can’t be fooled and needs a pinch of salt

@ToweringZigic: This is clearly legit because of the legal implications @almajir has alluded to, but I have to admit I’m highly sceptical of the timing of it with protests on the horizon. I hope the club releasing this info doesn’t cause any issues with any potential deals #BCFC

@MrBrightside_32: Won’t hold my breathe on this. They don’t keep us updated with anything so why would it change now. Whilst I like the idea of the bidder not going public (no serious bidder would) I just don’t buy this with the timings etc. seem to be another ploy to stop protests to me #BCFC

@PhilipKeenan12: It’s alright lads I’m sure somebody will be able to drag you out of league 1 😭

@Stoph76: Oh how very convenient. Such a coincidence that talks of protests start and all of a sudden there’s a prospective new owner on the horizon. If there were/or is, and you wanted it to go through, why risk it by announcing it at this stage? Pull the other one #BCFC #KRO #BSHLOUT

@KieranBcfc89: Protests need to continue until this (If Its not a load of rubbish) Is completed……..
