Over 4 million watch Burnley’s brilliant Shrek-inspired transfer announcement video, with fans calling it their best one yet.

The Championship league leaders have published what has gone on to be one of their most popular social media posts in their history when revealing the signing of Lyle Foster

They took inspiration via Shrek, using the scene of Lord Farquaad asking the Magic Mirror to suggest three princesses to him to marry.

Burnley’s social media genius team dubbed it up, so Farquaad asks for ‘January signings instead’, with Farquaad told that he should choose between Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lyle Foster.

Farquaad nervously dithers as his henchmen shout out suggestions, leading to Foster being picked, it’s simply superb viewing.

“And last but not least, a super South African from the Belgium Pro League – and at only 22 years old, he has already represented and scored for his national side at both Youth and Senior levels,” the Magic Mirror says. “Yours for the signing… Lyle Foster!”

After choosing Foster over Messi and Ronaldo, the scene ends with Lord Farquaad replying: “He’s perfect”.

Forward checks in at Turf Moor becoming third arrival of January window

Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of South African international Lyle Foster from Belgian side K.V.C. Westerlo for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old striker has penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor and becomes the Clarets’ third signing of the January transfer window.

Soweto-born Foster began his career with Orlando Pirates, rising through the academy ranks and going onto feature 11 times for the first team. Foster earned himself a move to Ligue 1 with AS Monaco in January 2019.

The 6ft 2in forward then joined top-flight Belgian side Cercle Brugge on a season-long loan from Monaco, making 18 appearances before the season was cut short in March 2020 due to the Covid pandemic.

Foster made the switch to Portuguese club Vitoria SC in August later that year, before joining Westerlo on loan for 2021-22 campaign.

Following a successful loan spell Foster joined Westerlo on a permanent deal last summer. After scoring eight goals this season and assisting three, Foster becomes Vincent Kompany’s third signing this month.

Internationally, the attacker has represented his native country from U17-U23 level and has since racked up nine senior caps.

After joining the Clarets, Foster said: “I’m very happy to be here, I’m blessed and thankful for the opportunity and I just can’t wait to get started.

“From the moment I heard that there was interest from Burnley, my heart and my head were set on the club. I’m so happy to be here now. It’s a dream for me.”
