Huddersfield fans vent fury as players head over to them after defeat at Lincoln

Huddersfield Town fans vent fury as players head over to them after a 1-0 defeat at Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

The loss marked Huddersfield’s sixth defeat in their last eight League One matches, dealing a severe blow to their playoff aspirations.

With the team slipping to 8th place, two points shy of the top six and only seven games remaining, the fans’ patience appeared to wear thin.

Reports indicate that the Huddersfield players went over to applaud the 962 away fans in the Stacey West Stand, only to be met with boos and chants of “You’re not fit to wear the shirt.”

This reaction underscores a growing discontent among the fanbase, who have turned out in large numbers throughout the season despite the team’s inconsistent performances.

The defeat, sealed by Reeco Hackett’s solitary goal in the 35th minute, highlighted ongoing struggles, particularly the team’s lack of potency in the final third, as they failed to register a single shot on target.

Interim manager Jon Worthington acknowledged the fans’ frustration, noting the team’s effort but lamenting their lack of quality in attack.

The sentiment from the stands reflects a broader narrative of a season unraveling, with supporters increasingly vocal about their disappointment as promotion hopes fade.

Huddersfield Town Interim Head Coach Jon Worthington spoke to HTTV: “Disappointment is the main feeling, I’m disappointed to lose from a set-piece.

“We had a decent reaction from the weekend and started quite brightly with dominant spells at times, but ultimately where we’re at, its about getting the results and we’ve not been able to do that tonight.

“Lincoln are well organised, but we have to be better in those moments, especially the decision making in the final third.

“The players that came in did well, and I was pleased by the overall reaction from the weekend.

“The supporters are brilliant, I know what they expect and demand, and unfortunately we’ve not delivered for them today. Nothing will change with me, I will continue to give everything I’ve got to try and get us the results we need.”

Lincoln head coach Michael Skubala, per the club website: “We work so hard on them so it’s really pleasing to score against a team who defend them so well.

“We had a threat on the counter and want to build on that. We also want to keep defending like that – Adam Jackson was involved in the goal and so important at the back again for us.

“Our back four were magnificent and as a whole group we defended really well. I can’t remember Huddersfield having a shot on target so to do that against a top team in this league is great.

“The whole group showed us what they had and it was a great three points. Everybody did well – we were defensively solid and structured really well.”

He added: “Charlton are on that run that everyone wants at the end of the season – they’re a really powerful team and will ask different questions from us.

“We’re away from home so know it’ll be a big challenge, but again we look at it as how we can go there and get a result.”
