EFL reveal key dates for the 2025/26 season and Fixture Release Day

The EFL reveal key dates for the 2025/26 season and Fixture Release Day, now that we are just a few rounds of matches to go.

Fixture Release Day for the 2025/26 EFL season is set for Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 9:00 AM BST, when all 72 EFL clubs across the the three divisions will unveil their schedules for the upcoming campaign.

The season itself will get underway at different times for the leagues. The League One and League Two seasons are scheduled to kick off on the weekend of August 2-3, 2025, while the Sky Bet Championship will begin a week later on the weekend of August 9-10, 2025.

The regular season is expected to conclude on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, or Sunday, May 3rd, 2026, for all three divisions, with the EFL Play-Off Finals likely taking place over the bank holiday weekend of May 23rd-25th, 2026, at Wembley Stadium. These dates makes sure that the season finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup preparations, which will begin shortly after.

Additional key dates, such as the Carabao Cup and EFL Trophy schedules, have not been fully detailed yet, but historically, the Carabao Cup Round One follows shortly after the season start (likely the week commencing August 4, 2025, for League One and Two, and August 11, 2025, for the Championship), with its final typically held in late February or early March. The EFL Trophy often begins in early September, with its final in April.

These dates provide fans with a framework to plan for the 2025/26 season, though they remain subject to potential adjustments based on broadcasting agreements or unforeseen circumstances.

Twitter users reacted as the EFL reveal key dates for the 2025/26 season and Fixture Release Day…

@cmfc1885: Would be handy if you could let us know the kick off times for the games on the weekend of 26th April.

@MatthewSoakell: Nice that you can announce key dates for next season but not fixture dates and TV coverage for the penultimate weekend of this season 👎 Letting Sky Sports take the piss out of fans as ever. Shambolic.

@GeorgeMurfet_: Brilliant. I know the 2026 playoff dates but not Wrexham away in 3 weeks. Cheers lads 👍🏻

@MorganBarrell03: cant wait for the 1st of august

@RyanCCFC20: 1st-3rd for us then 🤣

@Ben_S1990: Haven’t even announced fixture times and dates for 3 weeks time ffs 🤣

@JF___9: 1-3 August I’m waiting 🫠😂 #cardiff

@DonnieAndMooie: It’s been said a lot that football never stops anymore, but this summer is genuinely mad. The season ends, straight into a pointless international break, followed by a club world cup and then less than 3 weeks until it all kicks off again. We’re never getting a break anymore.

@mattylufc_: Only a month between us losing at Wembley again and next seasons fixtures being released, it’s just not long enough is it

@Eleanor18Flood: Let’s hope these are still relevant to @ReadingFC 🙏🏻

@ALS_Fanzine: Hopefully doesn’t apply to us but here’s next season’s EFL dates #SAFC
