Hertford have no goal given after ball crosses line and bounces off wheel metalwork inside goal

Hertford Town have no goal given after the ball crosses the line and bounces off a wheel metalwork inside the goal.

It came during the 1-1 draw at Ware FC, with 10 minutes remaining of the Southern League – Central Division fixture, Hertford thinking they won it with a late winner.

Hertford Town tweeted: “Gbolahan hits the wheel inside the goal, play goes on as they believe it’s hit the post!

“Apologies everywhere as boo’s echo around Wodson Park, no one’s deemed to have seen it. Absolutely unbelievable…

“They always seem to find a way. Games Gone 🤯”

We also saw something like this in the game between Bedworth and Cambridge City…

Baffling penalty incident at Bedworth sees Cambridge City goal controversially ruled out

Hertford manager Ben Herd said: Obviously we’re going to talk about the goal that isn’t the goal but you know we’ve had a goal that’s been disallowed as they’ve not seen which has clearly gone in

Interviewer: …must be frustrating when you do get the ball in the back of the net and it’s not given so was it what was your view of it did the ref say anything?

Herd: Yeah, it’s a goal, it’s a clear goal, you know I don’t understand how he’s not seen it or be the ref maybe might be a little bit skewed by a lot of bodies in the way maybe but the linesman’s got no excuses that side as well I have no idea I can’t explain to you why why he’s not seen it but it’s a clear goal

Interviewer: I read a good stat from 90 minutes live last last night that in 1920, Ware left the field of play due to Hertford being given a penalty, it must have felt a little bit like that today you didn’t want to play on after that?

Herd: Ah listen we’re not kids it’s not our ball we’re just going to go home are we on the playground but at the same time you just kind of expect people do their jobs property basically you know, it’s as simple as that, I’m sure that players get battered for making mistakes and look he’s just, he’s made a mistake. he’s made a mistake, we will make mistakes but I think it’s a a fundamental mistake which shouldn’t have been done you know and I just think that it’s such a glaringly obvious mistake which denies us three points

Fans gave their reaction with Hertford in disbelief at no goal given after ball crosses line and bounces off wheel inside goal…

@ABGroundhopping: Not convinced that the whole ball is over the line. Most of it is, but tough to spot at full speed. Hard to blame the officials (and bashing them from a club account in the style of Walton & Hersham’s post last month is low).

@BocaSWL: These type of goals shouldn’t be used for league/cup games, I’ve seen this far to much with these goals, so unfair for teams losing out because of these type goals.

@paul_winginit: Very poor officiating. The ball doesn’t rebound like that if it’s come off the post from that sort of shot.

@mirkobolesan: Always feels odd to me that these sorts of goals are used at such a high level.

@TuftyMUFC: Seen this a few times. These goals shouldn’t be used.

@JPMelly1: Goals on wheels! 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

@TerraStatman: Yet another goal not given due to these “roll on” goals. They simply should not be allowed above county level football!!!

@spaulinnit: Better goals without metalwork just inside the post are available.

@alexsalmon17: I’ll be honest, refs shouldn’t have to ref parts of the goal. But this is catastrophic, feel for Hertford. Grafted in a derby to be robbed of a win and that how it is. There should be no obstructions and wheels should be a foot away aswell. This should be min regulation.

@MrAlanJR: I’ve seen something similar to this with some metal in the goal. These ones have a tyre in the goal. There is always a slim chance of this happening and the officials not seeing it. Get rid of the goals with the tyres on.

@jordandavies09: These goals need banning, this happens way more than you’d think

@Custardboy2: And that’s the problem with those wheels… I’ve had this 11v11 & goals not been given….too quick for the ref. Admittedly it was on a Monday night league.

@venny1976: Sooner these goals are gotten rid of the better. Referee is looking through a crowd of players and the ball doesn’t go far enough over the line for lino to be 100%. Look closer to home rather than blaming officials!!

@I_am_Eve___: Robbed

@Cress31: Portable goals are a disgrace to football

@SimWills47: Seen this happen so many times with these types of goals! I understand they’re made like this for ease of moving, but surely it would be better to use proper goals for any decent level of football?
Gutted for you, but also very hard for referees to see this in real time.

@MLovett1: Blame the stupid goalpost design in this instance.

@AndyYELrefslia: Sometimes, as a match official you know something has happened but not sure what. Things happen in an instant. You can only give what you see, blink and you miss it.

@JB_CFFire: Could see it was in from the halfway line, shocking decision 😡

@neilsav1: Wheelie poor decision, that

@MaximusOwen: These types of goals should be banned by the FA and/or the league at every level above basic grassroots. At the very least the wheels should fold flat and no metal support bars either.
