Harry Kane apologises to Declan Rice as viewers spot goal celebration gaffe

Harry Kane apologises to fellow Three Lions teammate Declan Rice as viewers spot a goal celebration gaffe in the win against Albania.

A first-half header from the Spurs player, followed up by Mount’s lofted finish after the break sealed a 2-0 with for England to stay top of their group and face Poland at Wembley on Wednesday.

However some say that Rice is still waiting for a high five from Premier League skipper Kane, who found the net for the first time in six international games.

He headed home Shaw’s cross in the 38th minute and was mobbed by teammates. While the likes of Sterling, Foden and Maguire was there to give high fives.

Though there was poor Rice, spotted just to the side of Kane and left hanging his hand up for a long long time. Funnily enough they are able to laugh about it now over on their Twitter, as can be seen below.

Rice wrote: ‘I’m waiting for the.. Hello darkness my old friend meme to come 🤣🙈”

Kane replied: “Sorry mate should have checked my shoulder 😂”

Rice added: “All love skip 😂🤝”

What the managers said…

Albania boss, Edoardo Reja: “Our plan did not work so well. In the first half, England was not so good, they made just a shot on target. We were well organised in defence and tried to make some counter attacks but it wasn’t possible because it was like crashing with a mountain of muscles. The English team are really strong and really quick. If we had scored it would have been a different match then.”

Gareth Southgate: “What pleased me was that we adapted well to a pitch that was difficult to move the ball on. We controlled the game and, after about 25 minutes, changed the shape of the midfield a little bit and we looked a lot more dangerous. They had a different formation to the one they played in the last 25 matches, so we adapted to that and were comfortable for most of the second half.

“We have opportunities at the end of the game and should have killed the game off and I didn’t like the way we managed that game in the last 15 minutes. We charged forward when we didn’t need to, we nearly conceded from throw in at the end. I’m pleased with the win but there were areas we can certainly tighten up on.”

WHAT KANE AND SHAW SAID

Harry Kane: “I thought it was a really good performance, Maybe a bit slow at the start but we changed our formation and I think that helped.

“Sometimes you go through spells when things don’t go your way, that is part of being a striker. You just have to stay focused and it was great to get three points.

“We need to keep working hard but we are in a good place. Poland will be the toughest game in the group but we are ready for that. If we can win that, that puts us in a great position.”

Luke Shaw: “Very happy to win on my first game back. Gareth said it before we want clean sheets and we got another. The pitch at times was difficult but we got the three points. Job done.

“Maybe a crucial time for me as I gave a couple of sloppy balls away. When you play with Kane you know he will be in that area for you to hit.

“We controlled the tempo well at times. There only chances came from mistakes to us. The pitch didn’t help but no excuses. We know we made a couple of mistakes. Gareth said after we needed to control it better. Better teams might punish us.

“The last two years I have been watching the games and regretting not having taken my chance. I am so happy to be back. I would love to be in the Euros squad. There is high competition. I will keep pushing myself.”
