Harry Clarke and Harry Maguire wastes no time in mocking Leeds losing Championship playoff final

Ipswich’s Harry Clarke and Man Utd’s Harry Maguire wastes no time in mocking Leeds losing the Championship playoff final to Southampton.

Maguire posted via his Instagram story, of him watching the game, and captioned it “Hope everyone having a fantastic Sunday ๐Ÿ”ดโค๏ธ”

Meanwhile, Clarke posted a video that went viral of when the Sky’s broadcast of Ipswich’s promotion parade was interrupted by the player singing “Leeds are falling apart again” on the mic.

An Adam Armstrong strike in the first half was enough to send the Saints back to the Premier League, at the first attempt.

The last time they were relegated from the top flight in 2005, it took as long as 7 years to return, but this time Russell Martin got the job done.

Southampton captain Jack Stephens speaking to Sky Sports:

“I’m so proud to be captain of this club. I’m so proud of the boys today, I think they’ve been unbelievable.

“I think we probably didn’t play our best game today but we showed a different side.

“A few people have doubted us over this season. Can we defend? Can we dig in? I think we really showed that today.

Adam Armstrong told Sky Sports:

“I don’t know what to say. It’s what we’ve been working for all year, we know how good the Championship has been this year.

“What a way to go up! I saw the space in behind [for the goal] and I knew if I put it across goal it was going to go in, so it was a nice one.

“It means everything. The gaffer and his staff came in in pre-season and put a marker down of what they wanted to see, and look at this.

“This is why we’re footballers, we want to be involved in the biggest games, what a way to win.”

Southampton boss Russell Martin told Sky Sports, when asked how it feels to now be a Premier League manager:

“I could get sacked tomorrow so maybe not! [laughs] I feel emotional and overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve had over the past nine or 10 months especially in the tougher times.

“The support from the board, I had to validate their decision and justify being handed the chance.

“I’m so pleased for them because it wasn’t an exciting appointment. I’d finish 10th with Swansea, had a very clear way of doing things at MK Dons so for them to take me on was really brave.

“The team have been so brave and I’m grateful and proud of them.

“I did enjoy some of it. I enjoyed watching the players grow and I absolutely love that group of players. What we’ve asked them to do is not easy.”

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to Sky Sports:

“It’s been a tough season, lots of ups and downs, but we’ve got back to where we want to be.

“It’s crazy in football, things turn around very quickly.

“It’s one of those where you don’t have time to think about it so when I got in the team, I wanted to show what I could do.

“We knew it would be a tough game, but we thought we had the upper hand after beating Leeds twice this season.

“To get over the line at the end was unbelievable.

“Since Russ has come in, he’s completely changed the place. It was so flat after last season, the changing room was all over the place, but he’s built something special.”

On how Russell Martin told him he would be playing after Gavin Bazunu’s injury: “It was a strange one. It was an evening game and I was shopping in London with the missus in the morning to playing against Preston.

“I train properly every day to give myself the opportunity if it arises.”

Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters told Sky Sports:

“We were playing against a really top team and we know how much quality their front four have. I was up against Summerville so I knew I had to be on top of my game.

“That was my focus all week, top stop their front four, as we knew we had the quality to win the game.

“We were disappointed to be relegated in the first place as we felt this group was a group of Premier League players. We’ve bounced back and I feel we really deserve this.”
