Graham Alexander wants goal line technology in the EFL after Bradford are ‘robbed’ of victory

Graham Alexander wants goal line technology brought in to the EFL after Bradford City are ‘robbed’ of a victory against Salford City.

The two sides’ second game of the League Two season finished in a 0-0 draw, showing just how significant a call it was.

On the 29th minute, Bradford tweeted: “GOA…no! City think they’ve taken the lead as Andy Cook beats his man inside the area and shoots goalwards, but it’s a heroic goalline clearance from Stefan Negru!”

Bradford then said in their match report: “Alex Pattison found himself in space inside the area, and cut across for Cook to turn away from his defender and shoot. Stefan Negru was recovering well and slid in to deny the net from rippling, with the score kept level.”

Fans behind the goal thought it was a goal, the manager thought it was a goal, judge for yourself below…

Alexander said, per the Yorkshire Post: “We have seen a still photograph of it. and the ball is at least half a yard over the line, but they haven’t seen it.

“I don’t know the cost of goal line technology, but there is a lot of money in the game and I think goal line technology would help .It Is difficult for the officials, but we were on the wrong end of it today

“These things happen over the course of a season, but it was an important decision that would have won us the game.”

Alexander added: “I thought Salford were better than us in the first half, but the second half was more like it and we got better as the game went on . I thought we were excellent in the second half and created enough opportunities to win.”

Speaking to the club’s media, he said: “We have had a goal not given,” the City boss continued.

“It was clearly over the line, from what I have seen. I can understand if it is not clear, but from what I have seen, it was a clear goal we have not been given.

“I am still very happy with the performance, and how – even when we went for it in the second period – we did not get caught out defensively, but to still have a goal denied is a big hindrance.

“We should have won the game in the second half.

“We created great opportunities to score, and manufactured some real openings.

“The final ball and finish is what we need to find now, in order to convert those chances from the dominant periods we have had in each of our three games.

“But, I am really pleased that we have taken four points from two tough opening league games, and we will push on.”

Salford’a Karl Robinson said: “It’s nice being back in the dugout! I think the players showed a tremendous willingness, I see a better performance for Tuesday to Saturday.

“The steadiness and our progression will start to improve, we’ll start to see more consistency, we’ll see more bodies getting forward. We want to score more goals, we need to score more goals, if you want to win games you need to score. We need to be more pumped in the final third.

“They might speak about the goal that may be over the line, I’ve not seen it back so I can’t comment on that but we’ve certainly had enough chances in the first half to go in leading, and I think it could have been a different game especially in the second half, we could have got more control.”

@toonbantam: We weren’t great yesterday, but we scored a goal and should’ve won 1-0. We shouldn’t need 2-3 goals every game as insurance against poor officials. Need refs & linesman with the ability & bottle to make the right calls #bcafc #bantams
