Gone viral non league manager leaves Horndean for Bognor Regis

A recent gone viral non league manager in Michael Birmingham leaves Horndean for a job with Bognor Regis Town this week.

Bognor Regis announce the appointments of Jamie Howell and Michael Birmingham as joint managers of the club, meaning Birmingham leaves Horndean after 9 years in charge.

At the time of appointment, Horndean sit 13th in the Isthmian League – South Central Division with 25 points from 18 games played, while Bognor are in the league above, sitting bottom of the Isthmian League – Premier Division with 12 points from 19 games played and are 8 points from safety.

Honrdean said in a statement: “We can confirm first team boss Michael Birmingham has departed the club after 9 years in charge.

“Firstly, everyone at the Club would like to wish Michael Birmingham all the best with his move to Bognor Regis Town FC.

“It’s no secret his affection for Bognor having been a player & captain, we all knew that if the opportunity to manage the Club ever came up it would be a difficult one for him to turn down.

“His time at Horndean has been very successful overseeing the club’s rise from the Wessex League to step 4 in the Isthmian League for the first time in the club’s history.

“I would like to thank him for his tireless work for the Club over the last 9 years.

“Our remaining Coaching team will prepare the squad for Saturday & I will make a further statement once the Club has assessed its options.

“Mick Catlin, Chairman of Horndean FC.”

Bognor said in a statement: “Bognor Regis Town are delighted to announce the appointments of Jamie Howell and Michael Birmingham as joint managers of the club.

“This follows the departure of Robbie Blake as first team manager.

“The duo will take their first training session on Thursday and be at the helm when we travel to Potters Bar Town on Saturday for an Isthmian premier division game.

“We will expand on the thinking behind the decision to bring in Jamie and Michael in the joint role in a more comprehensive statement tomorrow. Up the Rocks!”

In November 2023, the rather ‘furious’ Horndean manager went viral with damning post-match rant after defeat to Phoenix Sports.

He channeled his inner Marc White in calling out bad performances from his players.

The reaction became so big that Horndean subsequently decided to turn their comments off so no one could have their say.

Then just three months ago, he was doing the rounds online again, as he slammed his players in a brutally honest post match interview following a 4-0 loss to Raynes Park Vale.
