Check out more of FourFourTwo’s predicted League One table for 2024/25 below…
8) STOCKPORT
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 8th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: In buying young(ish) in Lewis Bate, Jack Diamond, Lewis Fiorini and the Colchester pair of Jay Mingi and Jayden Fevrier, County have added growth potential to a squad already primed to impact this league. An instant playoff push isn’t already entirely out of the question.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 1st place for the 2023/24 League Two campaign – and that is where they ended up.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Dave Challinor’s side like to play forward early with quality, then build: it’s proven a great template in League Two, and poaching left-back Ibou Touray from Salford will only improve an already deep squad. It’s certainly ominous for the rest of the league in what looks like being another strong season for Stockport County.
7) BLACKPOOL
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 7th place for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Up there with the best on their day, Blackpool need to iron out the no shows to break into the top six, beginning with their dismal away record. They have decent firepower in Jordan Rhodes and a star keeper in Dan Grimshaw, but Karamoko, Dembele will be sorely missed.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 5th place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished 8th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: “I tried as hard as possible to find someone other than Neil.” quipped Blackpool chief Sadler of Critchley’s reappointment, following his acrimonious exit. The 44 year old led the Tangerines up in 2021 and could do so again, earning himself a simpler compliment next year.
6) CHARLTON
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 6th place (playoffs) for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Alfie May have gone, but Nathan Jones has his new strike duo in Matt Godden and Gassan Ahasme. With Luke Berry, Alex Mitchell and Josh Edwards also joining a trio of teenage talent in Daniel Kanu, Thierry Small and Karoy Anderson, Jones’ Addicks are shaping up well.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 8th place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished 216th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Charlton’s steady haul of 38 points from 25 games under Holden have boosted playoff hopes this term, but replacing departed Crystal Palace loanee Rak-Sakyi is essential. So is keeping Leaburn fit (and out of the clutches of others) as the Addicks seek some stability.
5) PETERBOROUGH
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 5th place (playoffs) for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Key men depart, but having Darren Ferguson in League One always give Posh a good chance, almost regardless of how dry the squad looks initially. George Nevett, Chris Conn-Clarke, both arrive from the National League with the potential to be the next big things.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 6th place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished 4th but lost in the playoff semi final to Oxford United.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Ferguson’s impact after rejoining couldn’t quite earn him a fifth promotion with the Posh, due to that playoff collapse. The club are now opting for a younger squad – Archie Collins’ arrival from Exeter stands out – but their experienced gaffer will keep them competitive.
4) ROTHERHAM
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 4th place (playoffs) for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: There won’t be a huge relegation hangover, with morale promptly lifted by Steve Evans’ return and early recruitment including the arrival of Sean Raggett, Joe Rafferty, and Jonson Clarke-Harris. The latter should give Rotherham plenty of potency to challenge.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 22nd place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 20th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Strong January recruitment saved the Millers – in December they’d been horrendous – and they’ll have to deliver that standard again, now that key men have departed. With Chiedozie Ogbene’s quality gone, even Matt Taylor’s straight talking leadership may not be enough.
3) HUDDERSFIELD
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 3rd place (playoffs) for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Duff took relegated Barnsley to the League One playoff final on a lower budget than the one handed to him by Kevin Nagle at Town, so top six is likely. Top two? Possible, without standing signings such as Lasse Sorensen, Lincoln’s agile and high octane wingback.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 21st place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 20th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: Having an impact over 15 games requires different skills to Neil Warnock’s new remit of overseeing a rebuild, so retaining him is a risk. Keeper Lee Nichols may bail out his Terriers, but winning matches with 25 to 30 per cent possession tends not to last for a full season.
2) BOLTON
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish in 2nd place (automatic promotion) for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Ian Evatt faces stern scrutiny for the first time, but if the spine of the team remains available, especially Ricardo Santos, then Bolton have a great chance of putting playoff heartache behind them. Klaidi Lalos should add useful goals from midfield, having hit 13 for Crawley.
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 1st place for the 2023/24 League One campaign – instead they finished 3rd and lost in the playoff final to Oxford United.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: In what looks a weaker league than last term, the Trotters will hope Nathan Baxter can replace Trafford in goal, with other new faces to come. Boss Ian Evatt has always delivered progress year on year, so a continuation of that trend should mean only thing – promotion.
1) BIRMINGHAM
The FourFourTwo magazine have predicted them to finish as the title winners for the 2024/25 campaign.
24/25 FFT VERDICT: Added to the likes of Koji Miyoshi, Paik Seung-ho and Dion Sanderson – all streets above this level – are third tier goalsmith Alfie May and ambitious buys such as Eredivisie winger Emil Hansson, together led by a talented coach… that alleged £20m budget does help, doesn’t it?
The FourFourTwo magazine predicted the club to finish in 18th place for the 2023/24 Championship campaign – instead they finished 20th.
23/24 FFT VERDICT: New ownership brings hope, after an impressive 17th place finish under John Eustace. Replacing the quality of last season’s loanees will be tough, though, and Koji Miyoshi and Tyler Roberts arrive with injury concerns in tow, so significant progress may have to wait for now.
