Four clubs keen on signing Billy Sharp | Troy Deeney wanted by Championship side

Four clubs are reportedly keen on signing Billy Sharp while Troy Deeney is also wanted by a Championship side as player-coach.

We start with Sharp with Alan Nixon claiming that he has been offered a potential move by four clubs after his release by Sheffield United.

The report reveals that Coventry boss Mark Robins is keen on bringing him in, but faces battling it out with the likes of Rotherham, Hull and Derby.

Sheffield United made the decision to get rid of him after their return to the Premier League, leaving the player gutted as he wanted to stay, but found that his eight season stay had come to an end.

Sharp won promotion to the top flight twice while playing with the Blades, and after surviving the first season, they ended up going back down in it’s second season since returning.

Coventry are attempting to sign him, but Rotherham are hoping the location helps keep Sharp in Yorkshire.

A decision will be taken this week.

“It’s been odd, knowing I wasn’t going back for pre-season and, until I sign for someone else, it won’t feel 100 per cent real,” said Sharp on Sky Sports (10 July).

“I’m ready now to continue my career elsewhere.

“The manager wanted to give me another year, he was quite open about that.

“He wanted to keep all his players there because I don’t think he’s going to get the money to spend on players, what he wants to do.

“So he wanted the close-knit group, because that’s what he’s about, being successful.

“The changing room is vitally important, any team that is successful will tell you that.

“For whatever reason, it wasn’t meant to be, so it’s been disappointing and it hurts knowing I won’t be playing for Sheffield United again.

“But I’ve sort of got over that now and I’m ready to move on and take the next step in my career.”

Meanwhile,Sheffield Wednesday are holding talks with Troy Deeney over a player-coach role according to Mail Sport.

Deeney already knows new Owls boss Xisco Munoz after time with each other at Watford.

He joined Birmingham City after his exit from the Hornets, but he is now available and as seen in the clip below, he’s working on something.

Sheffield Wednesday need to act fast if they want to bring in new players before the season begins, as work begins for the Spaniard.

Speaking to The Fight Within podcast last month, Deeney said: “When football is done, I’m alright with it being done. Everything has a shelf life. I have other things that I can do and then I’ll dive *****-deep into that and figure that out. But while football is still an option and I can still play, I’m going to keep doing it to the best of my ability.”

Asked about the Deeney rumours, Munoz told YorkshireLive: “You know I have a good relationship with Troy [Deeney]. He is a good person and I love him. I have a lot of contact with him.

“But right now is the moment for what we can improve with all the situations. We are putting the focus on what the team needs and how we can stay in a good situation in the Championship. We are trying to find the players to improve the team.”

This is what fans said with four clubs keen on signing Billy Sharp and Troy Deeney is wanted by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday…

ON SHARP:

@JasonHolyhead: Speaks intelligently. Sounds like a future manager. Best of luck @billysharp10

@alfierobinson93: @billysharp10 would you come down to ewood we need a goal machine at the minute ?

@BirdWaza: Defo HUDDERSFIELD TOWN bound to work with his mate again!!!

@p_bielby: He’s finished!!!

@Prestonhcafc: All these Billy Sharp rumours coinciding with him now being a free agent and Sky SN running a feature on him looking for a club. Agent is working hard. Who knows he’s a good sort. #hcafc

@athamesy_: Trying to tick off another yorkshire club

@KieranBatham: Absolute legend but the comments slightly worry me Hecky wasn’t allowed to give him a new deal ? Why not if Hecky wanted him to whether us the fans thought he was good enough Hecky did yet wasn’t allowed to keep him ? Who’s making the football descions at the club

@PaulDys69631436: We’ve all loved his time at the lane but all good things must end. Sorry billy but I really don’t see how he would get the goals we need from a striker in the prem if he only got 2? In the champ last year, even if most app were as sub.

@GgzKris: Strange time to do these type interviews when he’s not got club, maybe drum up some PR, great player for us in past but definitely right decision regardless how close dressing room was

@freeman9765: Club legend but right decision was made

@scottkeira13: Sharp with a slight dig there 😅😅

@jonathonchapma2: Correct decision to let go

@mac281291: He offered nothing last season so why would he think he could offer owt this season in a higher division? Legend a a good decision to release

@daveyjoneslaaa: 2 goals in 38 matches. The right decision was made

@PaulThomas1889: L1 standard at best now, can’t believe PH actually wanted to keep him in the PL, doesn’t make any sense

ON DEENEY:

@SWFCTweets1867: Player coach will be fine, his wage also won’t count towards FFP!!!

@swiddoy76: Not a chance in hell are we gettin anywhere with the aging forwards we have at our disposal we need some young fresh hungry players who aren’t afraid with a turn of pace and to try something new

@matthewdaughtr2: Would possibly help to bring on young strikers such as Cadamarteri in a coaching capacity as played at a higher level that what we have and then be used for the odd game where needed. Would like to see the young strikers get a chance in cup games to gauge where they are at.

@craighay: Unless the thinking is to move Smith or Gregory on then I don’t think it’s a great move

@AndyJGard: I think he brings loads to the party, think Trevor Francis. Malik Wilks is 24, Windass is 29.

@nicolarowlinson: I’d take him for a year 👍🏼

@ryangibsonuk: As a player coach he would be a good addition. People need to remember we are allowed 9 subs next year so he could be a good outlet in specific games.

@nathan66692689: I’d take him for a coach not player not saying he can’t still play but we need some youth in the team

@Bradshaw4444: The opposite of what we need.

@WLegend1978: Will score a few to keep us up.

@RocketOwl1986: Just weeks ago we won promotion in the most dramatic and exciting way ever. Fans and club together. Move on slightly we have changed manager and could be about to sign a 35 year old Troy Deeney. Only us #swfc

@DezMoore1248907: Can only benefit from his experience, been a top player at that level.

@WLegend1978: Can’t see him being on much as a coach be decent off bench.

@Joshswfc6: i don’t mind him on a player coach role be like a stockdale for that dressing room with bags of experience in champ, please do not just sign him as a player please #swfc
