Forest Green Rovers release statement after ‘baconbuttygate’ claims were made in a video which has emerged on social media.
The clip was recorded at Forest Green’s 5-0 National League win against Morecambe at The New Lawn on Saturday afternoon.
It showed security/stewards removed a fan, with it captioned by TikTok user @worm3.16: “Solicitor/morecambe fan removed for sneaking Bacon butty into Forest Green Rovers.”
The club has been fully vegan since 2015 under owner Dale Vince, serving only plant-based food like Quorn pies, but it’s led to fans mocking them.
The club have since seen the video and said: “We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday.
“Contrary to social media opinion & wisdom, the ejection was nothing to do with bacon sarnies more a little over exuberance’ on the last day of the season.
“After repeated warnings the stewards were left with no choice and the gentleman was ejected from the stadium. #neverletthetruthgetinthewayofagoodstory #slownewsday”
Apparently this Morecame fan was kicked out of Forest Green’s ground for having a bacon sandwich…🥓❌

Forest Green Rovers manager Robbie Savage said, as per Gloucestershire Live: “Today was our day, and it could have been more; we were brilliant.
“I thought we were absolutely superb with our movement, our creativity, dynamism, the intensity we played at.
“When we play like that, we are unstoppable. I don’t care who we play; I thought there were some unbelievable performances.
“If we’d have had Ricardo (Rees) all season, if we’d have had Sean (Etaluku) all season; we’ve had injuries to key players at key times, but we never go on about it because we know we’ve got a squad capable of beating anyone on our day.
“Whatever happens in the play-offs now, we’ve shown this season how good we can be.
“We know it’s going to be a real tough test against a good Boreham Wood side who rested most of their players today.
“We’ll go into Wednesday full of confidence, full of energy, and what a football club, I’ll be delighted whatever happens.
“All the subs made an impact; D’mani in the first half, he didn’t get a goal, but his movement and the way he stretches the defence to make space for our three 10s, was magnificent; he’s so unselfish.
“Credit to Doidgey, I wanted to get him on, I wanted him to score; he’s a legend of the football club, it’s his last home game, and he got to share it with his baby.
On their final points tally, he said: “To finish in seventh on 81 points is incredible. 82 goals, 13 more than last year, 23 wins, one more than last year, yes we haven’t got as many points, credit to last year’s team, third with 83 points, but we’ve finished seventh on 81.
Morecambe’s Jim Bentley, said per Lancashire Evening Post: “We made a few changes and we are in a bit of experiment mode.
“I thought there were some positives with Oscar Wright getting his first start and the fact we could easily have had a couple of goals.
“At the same time, we could have conceded more as Forest Green were miles the better side.
“I will accept responsibility for formation and personnel, but what I won’t accept responsibility for is not picking your man up from a corner or tracking your runners, communication and basic defending.
“We went into the game with some positivity but we ended up getting cut open too many times.
“The goals we conceded typified where we are as a side.
“It was too easy to score against us with free headers and that is where we have struggled.”
Here’s the social media reaction as Forest Green release a statement after ‘baconbuttygate’ claims made in the video…
@thespafixer: I think they’ve dealt with this quite well 😄👇
@JakeEnglish_: You did him a favour really not having to watch us
@JoeBlog377719: Preferred the bacon 🥓 sarnie story to be fair. The actual version of events are boring. 😂 probably the most talked about Forest Green Rovers has been for quite some time 😂😂
@SuperHoops1901: I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butty
@Pandamonium1881: That’s some hashtag lol
@Im_K1992: So basically someone’s made shit up on social media while providing no evidence at all and other pages just repeating it and spreading it. I mean it’s not like people make shit up daily on this app. Half the stuff on here is bullshit.
@ojeastwood (Replying to @The_Forty_Four): Maybe share the facts rather than spread misinformation? Or does that not generate enough clicks? False information spreads like wildfire and it’s harder to get the truth out afterwards.
@KsOllieU: It’s fake but let’s share it & stoke up division for views – do you research next time
@cultofwilson: Yer da let misinformation from a Footy Away Day Banter Fights Accumulators 🇬🇧🍺🏴👊 page ruin his sunday.
@StPhilipthe2nd: The word ‘apparently’ is doing a HUGE job here.
