Football fans takeover Glastonbury 2023 with even more flags and retro kits

We continue our look at more football flags and retro kits spotted at Glastonbury 2023…

Speaking to The Athletic in 2019, Carlo Kasic, a market researcher was born in 1991 in Rotherham, turned up wearing an Inter Milan away shirt his father bought the year he was born.

“My grandad is Italian. My dad was born in England but was raised as an Italian and all of my family are Inter Milan fans.

“I am wearing it for comfort mainly,” he explains. “And it keeps in with the festival atmosphere.”

He also supports Rotherham United and loves to see other fellow Rotherham fans in kits. “People want to let others know: this is who I am, what I support and where I am from.”

Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark, from west London and wore an Arsenal bucket hat, recalls how she noticed lots of fans in classic shirts.

She met up with her friends, who were Middlesbrough supporters, and have a flag with the club crest on. “It is an important part of people’s lives and the whole weekend I’ll be looking at people’s football shirts and looking at what season it is from.”

Jack Sheen, from Shepton Mallet often goes in a West Ham shirt and flat cap. He and around 30 of his friends had a football shirt night.

“My roommate is from Mexico and his mum brought me this Monterrey shirt when she visited. I am repping it on their behalf.”

Luke Owen, one third of Cardiff group The Saint Melonians, can be seen on the drums in a Wales bucket hat and matching shirt. “The blag with this costume is I’ve been on the razz and not came home from the last Wales game,” he said.

Aberdeen based couple husband and wife Chaz and Nic Watson. In 2008, they met Andrew Hogg from Middlesbrough by chance and after 15 minutes of chatting, they had organised a kickabout for the next day. But when Hogg arrived with a team, while Chaz was no where to be seen.

“He didn’t turn up because I got drunk and lost my purse so we were up at lost property,” Nic laughed.

Tom Ogden, the lead singer of Stockport group Blossoms and a Manchester City fan who believes music and football are two cultures that go together.

“It goes hand in hand, doesn’t it? I have seen so many football tops and loads of City ones. Every City shirt I’ve seen I’ve said: nice shirt mate. Football brings people together.

“It’s the shirts, the flags, the vibe. Especially with crowds of people, it is just the same as football grounds for everyone in the fields here. It’s nice.”
