We look at the favourites to become new Cardiff City manager as the club confirm the decision to sack Erol Bulut with an interim named.
The Bluebirds has only picked up one point from six leagues games and have scored just one goal, leaving them bottom of the Championship table. Bulut’s side fell to a 2-0 loss at home to Leeds on Saturday.
First team coach Nikolaos Karydas also departs, and now Omer Riza gets set to take charge of the club on an interim basis until a permanent appointment is made.

Erol Bulut said post-match: “We knew how important and how the difficult the game would be for us. The plan for today was to stay compact and not allow the opponent many chances and to counter well, but after 23 minutes, we went down to 10 men, then we conceded the first goal.
“Against a club and a team like Leeds, with the quality they have, it’s not easy to come back and change the game. Also, in the first half, we invited them to make chances, because we lost the ball too easily. There were too many mistakes and if you make these against Leeds, they take the opportunities.
“In the second half, the players worked really hard to try and come back, but the second goal, we shouldn’t make that mistake.”
Erol concluded: “When you get the ball, you have to come forward with it, but we made too many passing mistakes and we didn’t many enough runs in-behind. When all these are not how you need them, it’s difficult.
“When I see the first six games, whether it’s Sunderland, Middlesbrough or Burnley, what we tried to play, we had the chances, but we didn’t score. The results could be much different. Against Sunderland and Middlesbrough, we had many chances and conceded from a set-piece. In Derby, we conceded a goal from nothing after we could have scored three goals.”

Fans gave their reaction amid the favourites to become new Cardiff manager as the club sack Erol Bulut with an interim named…
@christ1ant0b: We will never succeed as a football club with the rotten hierarchy upstairs. No point getting excited over a replacement
@dylantdavies1: Pointless even getting excited about replacements, we’ll be in the same position in a year or two with the current hierarchy.
@ccfcrt0p: Shame it had to come to this I was hoping for some stability after last seasons improved league position and better Derby results. However things have been dire the backend of last season and so far this. Yesterday’s lack of Respect on the 14th minute was the final straw!
@chrisevoevans: After such promise last year, I don’t know where the wheels came off this season. But the right decision has been made!
@GDavies909: 3m
That is great news, hopefully Cardiff can get the a decent manager this time around. Some of the recent appointments have been a complete disaster. Not to convinced we will get it right though.
@Mikeyccfc: It is really disappointing it had to come to this, but it is definitely the correct decision. We just haven’t improved at all over the summer, and our form over the last 40 games is horrific. All the best for the future, Erol. It just wasn’t to be.
@morgankin16: Sad to see it end like this tbh after last season
@liam_brett7: Let’s not forget he did mainly a solid job last year and everyone wanted him to get the extension. First manager since warnock attempting a relationship across south wales with the fans but clearly didn’t work out this season and is clearly the right decision. All the best Erol 👌🏼
@TheLeckwithMole: Best bit of news all season.
@iamtimjbaker: A sad but inevitable consequence of the team’s performance for quite a while, I’m afraid.
We’ve been hurtling towards oblivion of late. Best wishes to Erol Bulut for the future. 👏🏻💙
@neddthomas: Completely the right decision. Need to get this next appointment right or we are in deep trouble
@connordavies612: Correct decision but keeping Omer Riza around worries me evidently not a good coach. Need to completely change the backroom staff even Tom Ramasut has to go.
@oliverCCFCrees: Devastated how it’s ended but on reflection it’s probably the correct decision, so much promise at the start of his tenure but something’s obviously gone horrifically wrong. All the best Erol 💙
@KeiJRobo: I do feel sorry for him a little bit. We all wanted it to work out and he was a top bloke but it is the right decision. VT should have stuck to his guns and told MD no new deal. All the best to Erol!
@nathanccfc21: The worst part is how apathetic I feel. I’m not happy nor angry nor surprised. Just a bit numb to it all now really. This was Dalman’s man and would probably lead to his resignation in most situations. But he’s owed a stupid sum of cash, so it won’t happen. Deary me
@RyanCCFC20: Thank you for last season Erol especially that Swansea game 💙. Shame it’s come down to this, wanted you to succeed but hasn’t worked out this season. All the best 💙
