Fans ‘start playing Steve Evans bingo’ with his ‘excuses’ after Rotherham’s 1-1 draw at Charlton on Saturday afternoon.
Steve Evans felt his side were denied what he felt was “a clear and obvious penalty” and the wait for an away win extends to 22-months.
Liam Kelly had Rotherham ahead with their first away goal in nine league games in the 58th minute before Chuks Aneke produced a stunner for the home side 14 minutes later, extending the Addicks’ unbeaten streak to 10 league games on home soil.
But Steve Evans felt Rotherham should have been awarded a late penalty after Joe Powell went down under a challenge by Kayne Ramsay.
Evans was so angry that he was booked for protesting referee Simon Mather’s decision to wave away appeals.
The result leaves Rotherham sitting 15th in League One with 5 points from 5 games, while Charlton are 5th with 10 points from 5 games.

Rotherham manager Steve Evans booked. He wanted a penalty for a challenge on Joe Powell. Not sure there was a whole lot in it. #cafc

Evans said: “I remember the Neil Warnock quote, ‘you don’t get penalties in London unless you’re from London’. And how that’s not a penalty is beyond me. But we didn’t get it.
“It was a clear and obvious penalty, there’s no attempt to play the ball.
“So not only did the referee miss a penalty, there’s no attempt to play the ball which constitutes a red card. So it would have been a penalty and at a big time in the game.
“I didn’t say anything, I just said ‘it’s a penalty’. That was what I’ll get done for, I just raised my arms and showed a pushing reaction.
“And I said to the fourth official at the time ‘he’ll be disappointed when he sees it back’.
“I don’t see it as a good point. I think we are unfortunate not to get three points. It would have meant everything (to win away) because it’s a statistic no one wants to have. But let’s be honest, the team was a shambles for the last 18 months.”

Charlton manager Nathan Jones meanwhile said: “There’s a tinge of disappointment. It was brutal at times in terms of the tempo to the game.
“We didn’t show enough composure in the game…but we showed good character to come back from conceding.
“We’ve gone from being a side that was 19th to a side that’s fifth and two points a game at the minute…and we’ve had a tough start.
“The positives that we can take is that we are bang on, every five games we have a target for points, and we are bang on it at the minute.
“It seems like we would be disappointed today because we drew a game at home, also having lost the last game, but we are in a good position. If you get 10 points every five games, then you are in a real good position.
“Today we knew it was going to be a really difficult game, they were going to be tough to play against. It was going to be difficult to, and I don’t mean any disrespect, it was very difficult to create a tempo against them because almost everything was a restart. When it is like that you try to get fluency, and we couldn’t really do that.
“I thought we had the better chances, Gassan [Ahadme] has a wonderful chance early on, also knocking one down for Bez [Luke Berry] who I expect to hit the target there. It took two strikes from outside the box to break the deadlock in a tight game. At the minute we are one of the best defensive sides in the league, if not the best defensive side in terms of our xG [expected goals] against. We seem to get beaten from 20/25 yards or wherever it is, that is something we have to address. Apart from that, I am proud of the performance, it wasn’t pretty, it was brutal at times. 10 points after five games it’s not the worst place to be.
“In the build-up we need to make decisions quicker. We gave them very little today, Will [Mannion] had one save to make from Mallik Wilks in the first-half which was a bit of a ricochet, that can happen. They throw the ball in and have a ricochet, that is what they created.
“For us, in a brutal game, we stood up to it and were defensively strong, we didn’t go under. We only concede from outside of the box at the minute pretty much. There are a lot of positives to take from it, yes, we have to close balls down, but overall, defensively we have been excellent. What we have to do is make sure we are more fluent, a little bit more quality in our crosses and things that we do.
“When we display quality, we do get chances, that is the frustration today, not enough quality in a difficult game. They were tough opponents in how they play, defend and work, but I expect us to be better.”

Fans ‘start playing Steve Evans bingo’ with his ‘excuses’ after Rotherham’s draw at Charlton…
@tgilly82: Are Rotherham not sick of his excuses every game?
@HCfootball01:
I’m going to start playing Steve Evans bingo, haven’t watched this video yet, will come back after.
– blame the officials
– talk about how you were the only team trying to win
– say it’s a game you deserved to win
– blame a bad decision
– Say that Charlton underestimated you
Brb.
@ChrisCOB_OB: Not won away for two years, I didn’t even know that. Blamed the players for being down in training, blamed the ref because he’s in London, blamed Birmingham for spending money and they’ve not even played them, said they are the best side Charlton would play this season. Horrendous
@Super4547476563: Genuine question; has there been a single game in history where a Steve Evans team actually deserved to drop points? He makes it sound like they dominate every minute of every game and get absolutely cheated out of them.
@stanley_co: Hes unbearable. Excuse after excuse. Just accept it and move on.
@therealtbailey: Insufferable.
@ThomasAskew88: Jesus, this is embarrassing
@danbashamCAFC: Bloke chats absolute crap 🤣
@Ratty_1957: Moan, moan, moan, moan, moan!!! Does this guy ever have a positive thing to say? 🤷♂️😂😂
@Elliscfc88: How can the Rotherham fans live with this shit every week?
@edlittle: I hope Rotherham fans aren’t stupid enough to take all this cr*p…
@jblock_webb: What a joke of a man
@Fletch19852: Last week all smiles when something “went their way” now back to complaining. Really can’t stand the bloke. Everything is someone else fault never his own or his sides
@marklskelton: Clown
@AyJay66: “When you’ve got the resources of Charlton you can bring Chuks Aneke into the pitch” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 funniest bit of this absolute spitball of an interview
@RyanGoodo: He’s so embarrassing every week 😂
@Grummy29: It was never a penalty and neither team did enough in the final third to win. A draw was the right result. Can’t resist a dig about our “huge investment” either can he? It’s always someone else’s fault when they don’t win with him!
@CanaryStats: Swear he has a tantrum every time he doesn’t win
