Fans react after Rotherham United boss Steve Evans makes “Biggest club in Bristol” suggestion in his post-match interview.

Steve Evans had just watched a dramatic 3-2 victory for his Millers side at The Mem and makes the claim that Bristol Rovers are the biggest club in Bristol.

Interviewer: “This is a difficult place to come, isn’t it? Not only with their results, but we saw in the five minutes, I think, before the equaliser that when the crowd get up, it can almost suck the ball into the back of that net.”

Steve: “This is a wonderful football club. And anytime you come to Bristol Rovers, you should just remind yourself this, that, how good this club is, you know. For me, there is, just going to be controversial and say they’re the biggest club in Bristol. There’s an argument, there’s an argument to say Bristol Rovers were playing in a new stadium and playing in the Championship where their crowds were big. So this is a really special football club that I’ve done battle with over the years, win some, lost some. But the one thing you know when you come here, you’re gonna have to manage the expectation, that support base for Bristol Rovers.”

He said, per Rotherham Advertiser: “I’m pleased for every man, woman, boy and girl who came and supported us. They don’t get enough credit.

“It’s our first 3pm Saturday away win in more than three years. I’d have been locked up and in a bad place if that had been my team for the last three years.”

On a disappointing season as a whole, Evans said: “I’ve not helped it enough this year.”

Bristol Rovers boss Inigo Calderon said: “Tonight is going to be a long night. Tomorrow is going to be a difficult Sunday for us.

“It’s not going to be easy to play these remaining games because there’s going to be less and less of them left so the pressure is going to be bigger.

“That’s why you have to be really strong. If you’re weak, you will go down, it’s as simple as that.”

The result leaves Bristol Rovers sitting 20th in League One with 35 points from 33 games played, a game in hand and two points over 21st Burton. Rotherham are 13th with 41 points from 33 games played.
