Fans say they are ‘lost for words’ as news on Man Utd this week leads to the Premier League facing allegations of corruption.
The Premier League is facing allegations of corruption following reports that Manchester United received a £40 million Covid allowance, significantly higher than the £1 million allowance given to other clubs.
This allowance allegedly helped Manchester United avoid failing the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the season.
The disparity in allowances has sparked outrage among fans and commentators, who accuse the Premier League of favoritism and corruption. The Premier League has not yet responded to these allegations.

Stefan Borson football finance expert: “Again, towards the end of the window, or if they can, of course, in January.”
Jim White: “Briefly, were Manchester United sailing close to the wind on profit and sustainability?”
Stefan: “United is very interesting because we do have quite a lot of information about United, because of course, they quarterly report in the US. And so we know that they’ve told us that the end of year results will have a 660 million pound top line and about 140 million EBITDA, which also tells us certain things about their costs.
“Now, bottom line is, when you drag that down on the three year assessment, United would have failed PSR for the season just gone, save for two things.
“One is they were given, it appears, an exceptional allowance of 40 million pounds for Covid in 2022, which no other club had.”
Jim: “So how did they get that?”
Stefan: “The most any other club had was about a million quid in that period.”
Jim: “So how did they get 40?”
Stefan: “We don’t know. On top of that, it seems that they’ve been given allowance for around about 35 million pounds of exceptional cost relating to the share sale to Ratcliffe, which, to be honest, the Glazers should have paid that themselves anyway, given that they were the main beneficiary.”
“But we know from the numbers that that was 35 million and the only way in which they can make the 23-24 PSR number.
“And this is not just my view, this is the view of multiple people who run the numbers based on publicly available information from the US.
“The only way they could have made that PSR target was by having these allowances, which are relatively exceptional in the game.
“So I think around the table at the Premier League, when you’ve got Newcastle having to scurry around on the 29th and 30 June to sell players, and then they discover that actually United have had what appear to be quite exceptional allowances.
“And where you’ve had a season where Everton have all of their troubles and continue to have them, with the capitalisation issue that’s still upcoming in the current season, in the forthcoming season, and Nottingham Forest, of course, who weren’t allowed to count promotion bonuses, all these things that weren’t allowed and yet United have been given allowances for Covid and for probably for exceptional costs on the share sale. There will be questions asked around the table.”
This is how fans reacted, with fans ‘lost for words’ as Man Utd news leads to the Premier League facing allegations of corruption…
@agbnufc_: Really need someone like @KieranMaguire to validate how true it is but nothing would shock me. The Premier League exists as a brand to push the Big 6 and everything else is a hindrance.
@neil11834463: Unreal if this is true and definitely likes of Everton and Forest need to make a noise about this for sure
@nufc454545rt: Everton and Forest need to take legal action against this
@SimonJudson: I imagine there’s a fair few high profile competition lawyers licking their lips at the size of the cut they’ll get if they hammer the PL in court over this.
@blenks46: Wow, that’s just unbelievable, wonder if Newcastle, Everton and N.Forest get the lawyers onto the case 🤬🤬🤬🤬
@MarkH280968: Fxxking disgusting and seriously needs looking into
@MadGeordie3: Infuriating 🤬🤬🤬
@dickmars1: Sue the fucking lot of em
@GingerPirlo_: This is just more proof that the PL is a corrupt boys club. Chelsea are allowed to sell whatever they want to themselves. And Man Utd are allowed any old allowance they can come up with. Yet the other “big 6” bar City won’t rock any boats coz they want the same favourable treatment & the Other 14 say nowt! I’ve also changed my mind on Guehi being too expensive. Get him in. Get a top Right Winger in. Get whoever you fuckin want lads and have the best lawyers on the planet ready to go if the PL even dare try and punish us. The Other 14 plus Man City should be coming together to take these c*nts to court. PSR points deductions will soon be kicked into the dust. #nufc
@LeeDForster:
Talksport: “Man Utd were given a 400% higher allowance for Covid losses than any other PL club”
Richard Masters: “Move along, nothing to see here” 🤷🏻♂️
#NUFC ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
@TFMick1892: Scandalous. Absolutely rotten to the core.
@EverMore_NUFC: Wtf is this #PremierLeague why are you letting #MUFC fiddle to stay away from PSR breaches whilst letting other clubs get hit with fines & having to fire sale talent to cover their arses? #corruption this needs answered & right now! 🤬
@sandell84: This is a disgrace @premierleague but isn’t a surprise. One rule for some clubs totally different ones for others
@tflawsy1892: Certainly not surprising, but if true, Everton & Forest need to seriously look at legal action. Corrupt as fuck.
@CityGroundShelf: I know we all love the bells and whistles that the Premier League is. But any Forest fan who doesn’t think we compete in the most corrupt and unfair league in the world is kidding themselves.
@GeordieMAG_: Absolute disgrace… urge every #nufc to listen to this.
@JoelJackson89: This is why every Club needs to vote for rule changes on spending and allow clubs that want to spend try to upset the Cartel 6, because they’ll always get the help they need from the @premierleague, perfect example is Chelsea selling their assets to themselves
@Carl_TFTG: The other 19 clubs need to get together and ask why Man U got preferential treatment, and why the body that is meant to enforce PSR has made a mockery out of it!! Masters needs to go! #NUFC
@stekallen: Wow, just wow. Premier league corrupt and only protect the big 6 everybody doesn’t matter
@NufcBoyo: Scrap PSR … sick of clubs like Man Utd and Chelsea selling hotels to themselves getting around the rules. 40m covid compared to 1m for other clubs and we selling players like minteh to play by the rules. They all taking the piss !!
@CrierToon: And they were given an additional allowance for the takeover. Borson said no one has explained why this happened and it’s up to the other clubs to challenge both. Imagine if this was our club. Cartel club rules.
@davecave8: Yes I heard that surly any club getting done will fight it also said Villa need to raise £75 million of sales before next June which as villa fan is worrying
@Wellies61081181: Wasn’t COVID one of the main reasons Everton got done.
Enzo Maresca criticises PSR, blaming it as Chelsea prepare for exodus of academy players
