It comes within a 24 hour period that has seen the Hammers sign Argentinian World Cup winner Guido Rodríguez and Germany international centre-forward Niclas Füllkrug.
West Ham’s statement on Guido Rodríguez:
West Ham United is delighted to confirm the signing of Argentina international, FIFA World Cup and two-time Copa América winner Guido Rodríguez.
Defensive midfielder Rodríguez arrives at London Stadium on a free transfer, having departed Spanish club Real Betis, where he had spent four-and-a-half seasons, at the expiry of his contract in June.
A strong tackler with outstanding positional sense and accurate passing ability, Rodríguez is relishing the opportunity to show off his talents in the Claret and Blue of West Ham.
“I’m very happy to be here,” said Rodríguez, who won the Copa América in 2021 and 2024, either side of lifting the Finalissima and World Cup trophies in 2022. “I feel like it’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, and I was very excited when I heard that West Ham were interested in me.
“It’s a historic Club, that has a really interesting project. I think it’s the right Club for me, at the right time, and I hope together we can keep growing. I spoke to Edson [Álvarez] before signing, and we’re both really looking forward to working together again.
“I will help the team in any way I can. I will bring experience to the team, and though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put the work in to make sure I’m up to the task.
“What I can say to the fans is that I will give them everything. I’m very motivated, and I think together with the supporters we can achieve many good things. I just can’t wait to get going now!”
Technical Director Tim Steidten believes the 30-year-old has attributes that should translate well into the intense environment of the Premier League.
“This is a massive moment for West Ham United in bringing a player of Guido’s pedigree to the Club. He is a player I have admired for a long time, and we couldn’t be happier to have completed the deal to bring him to east London,” said Steidten.
“Guido is a defensive midfielder whose intelligence in and out of possession is a real strength to his game. He is also a proven winner, having won the World Cup, Copa América and Finalissima with Argentina, so to have secured his services is a big statement of intent by the Club.
“We feel it is important to strike a balance between youth and experience across the squad, and adding a player with the experience and leadership qualities of Guido will be a real asset to the Club moving forwards.
“It’s a busy period in this transfer window, and the Board are continuing to show they’re backing us to bring quality players to West Ham United.”
Rodríguez will become the ninth Argentine to represent West Ham, following Mauricio Taricco, current national-team manager Lionel Scaloni, Javier Mascherano, Carlos Tevez, Mauro Zárate, Manuel Lanzini, Jonathan Calleri and Pablo Zabaleta.
Everyone at the Club would like to welcome Guido and his family to east London and wish him the very best for his career in Claret and Blue.

West Ham’s statement on Niclas Füllkrug:
The prolific striker joins the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
Hannover-born Füllkrug has scored goals wherever he has played, netting over 50 in the Bundesliga, three in last season’s UEFA Champions League, and 13 in just 21 caps for Germany, including two each at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2024.
The 6’2 player will now move to the Premier League, where his qualities of outstanding passing, heading and finishing, and all-round physical attributes, will add firepower to Head Coach Julen Lopetegui’s attacking arsenal.
“I’m delighted to be here, and I can’t wait to get out on the pitch with my new teammates,” said Füllkrug. “I think the Premier League is the best league in the world, and for me it is the right time to move over to England and play for a big Club like West Ham.
“I have been thinking about West Ham for a long time now – I know the Technical Director Tim Steidten very well, because we have history at Werder Bremen together, and I have watched some games and seen how much quality there is in the team.
“The chance to play under the Head Coach [Lopetegui] is also really exciting. His playing style is important for me, and I am confident that under him I will be able to perform at my best, and score lots of goals.
“I love being close to supporters, and I’m really looking forward to meeting the West Ham fans. I have a very good feeling at the moment – I’m strong, fit and in shape – and I just want to get out there and start playing for them.”
Having kicked off his career with Werder Bremen, Füllkrug had two seasons with 1. FC Nürnberg, then fired both Hannover 96 and Werder to promotion to the Bundesliga, where he has scored 28 goals in 59 appearances for Bremen and Borussia Dortmund across the previous two campaigns.
Füllkrug was outstanding last season, netting in UEFA Champions League wins over Newcastle United, Atlético Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, registering 20 direct goal involvements in 29 Bundesliga appearances, and scoring six goals in just 470 minutes of playing time across 12 international caps for Germany. In all, he scored 21 goals and assisted eleven more in 54 games for club and country.
Having worked with Füllkrug at Werder Bremen, as mentioned above, Technical Director Tim Steidten has long admired the 31-year-old.
“We are delighted to have signed Niclas,” said Steidten. “I have worked with him previously and I know what he will bring to us in terms of his physical and finishing qualities, as well as his character and mentality.
“He has enjoyed a really positive last couple of seasons, both at club level, where he played in the Champions League final last season, and with Germany at the Euros this summer, and he joins us with a clear desire to build upon that progress and prove himself in the Premier League.
“Niclas has great experience and is at the stage of his career where we feel he can really give us his best years. He is someone who we have watched very closely, and who we believe will be an excellent fit for the team and for the Club. We look forward to seeing the qualities he will bring.
“The Board continue to show their backing by bringing in top-class players to strengthen the squad at West Ham United.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Niclas and his family to east London and wish him every success for his career in Claret and Blue.
