Mark Goldbridge fumes ‘it’s not fair’ as Man City sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £80m

Mark Goldbridge fumes, saying ‘it’s not fair’ as Man City look set to sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £80m.

Manchester City are selling their backup striker for £30m more than they paid for Erling Haaland, with it just two years ago when the now £82m Alvarez joined for £14m as a relative unknown.

As mentioned by Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas, Pep Guardiola has always said that if a player wants to leave and he and his representatives bring an offer at market value then he will not stand in their way, and with too many attacking players in their squad, with Savio joining and the progress of Oscar Bobb being watched, it’s now time for Alvarez to go.

This meanwhile will allow Chelsea’s talks over Omorodion and therefore Gallagher’s move to Atletico to go ahead, which Goldbridge talks about towards the end of the YouTube video below…

He said: “Two big footballing stories for you this morning and the first one is an absolute joke we will be talking about what Chelsea’s manager has said about selling Connor Gallagher which backs up what I said yesterday to all those Chelsea fans who were moaning your manager agrees.

“But let’s start off with the big breaking story Atletico Madrid are going to pay £81.5 million for Alvarez and you’re telling me the Premier League ain’t broke that football ain’t broke it’s always bloody Man City it’s an absolute joke it’s just not fair like they are so far ahead anyway maybe because of the 115 we’ll find out about that let’s not upset them too much but we sort of need, I mean whether, I mean look I’m not here saying if you’re not guilty you should get found guilty but for the good of football Man City need their wings clipping because they’re flying high like a juggernaut.

“I mean they’re getting 80 million pound for their backup striker, straight into the football club, huge profits gets reinvested on better players, you can’t compete with that you cannot compete with that whether you think it’s fair or not Man City are selling their bench striker for 80 million pounds that they can reinvest that huge amount of money back into their squad, they’ve already got the biggest revenue, they can already spend money anyway, and now they’re selling players, who are bench players for 80 million, I mean Arsenal don’t even have an Erling Harland they don’t even have an Alvarez and Man City are selling Alvarez for 80 million quid and where Atletico Madrid are getting that money from I don’t know. At the start of the summer they’re pleading poverty because they can’t afford Mason Greenwood for £25 million they’ve just gone and spunked £110 million on Connor Gallagher and Alvarez and apparently you know La Liga is in a footballing crisis this ain’t even bloody Barcelona or Real Madrid so where they’re getting that money from God only knows but it’s always Man City isn’t it.

“And look I mean at the end of the day it’s up to Atletico Madrid what they want to pay and fair play to Man City for getting that amount of money is Alvarez worth 80 million pound no not really I don’t think so people can say he’s a World Cup winner so was Alan Ball he wasn’t better than George Best who never played in a World Cup um I think Alvarez is a decent player and I think he needs to play first team football and maybe Atletico Madrid think they’re getting Aguero because they had Aguero before he went to Man City and I think he will do well in that League um but I think I think Man City have done amazingly good business there yet again and you you know we’ve got Premier League predictions coming up next week

“Look I have to take a moment and think well what’s your angle here, is it jealousy a little bit, is it bitterness a little bit, is it an inflated price involving Man City again yeah definitely, is it corrupt no probably not, I mean certainly I don’t think it is corrupt I just think it’s the state of play at the moment where Manchester City you know everybody’s kissing their ass um this is a club that could be relegated in 12 months and yet Atletico Madrid are giving them 80 million pound for their reserve striker.

“Doesn’t look like a club that’s going to get relegated in 12 months does it because if you thought you were getting relegated in 12 months you might be selling people off a little bit of cheap, cheaper than their value to get some money in but no it’s business is in fact it’s not even businesses normal it’s another level of business and I think my issue with it is I just look at the Premier League and the Premier League predictions are going to be very interesting maybe around second third fourth, but it’s not going to be very interesting around first place if you don’t go for Man City to win this league you’re a bloody idiot.

“Best squad best manager best circumstances most money they can’t fail it’s an absolute open goal and the scary thing is they’re probably been a bit reserved this summer transfer window so far they’ve certainly got the revenue and the money to go and spend £200 million easily easily and that’s without selling players and and then they’re selling a player for £80 million so I think that the scary thing for the Premier League is they can sit back and go well you know they’re complying with the rules I’m sure they are complying with the rules but no everyone else is struggling to comply with your rules and Man City on and this is going to be seven Premier League titles in eight, we’ve already had six in seven it’s a joke.

“And it’s you know it’s not fair it might be fair but it’s not fair because we want a competitive league and yeah I just I just think it you know yet again it’s just an evidence piece before you know right before the start of the season if you didn’t need reminding because no one talks about them I mean no you know people are talking more about Arsenal Liverpool Man United Chelsea of course no one talks about Man City maybe because they’re bored of it maybe because it’s just so obvious maybe because they’re not that interesting but they’re absolutely going to win the league because they’re absolutely got the best players I mean Rod’s amazing Foden’s amazing Haaland’s amazing De Bruyne is amazing you know there’s so many amazing players that they’ve got um and then I mean is Pep Guardiola almost at a point now where he’s not going out buying loads of players because he already knows he’s got everything he needs anyway it’s just little bits here and there

“But if you look if you’re selling your reserve striker for 80 million pound then there’s something very very dominant about the way that you do things and and that’s what I’m saying about it it’s just um it’s incredible that they can do that you can argue about whether he’s worth it or not but you can’t argue with me when I say that man city are miles ahead of everybody else in a league that we want to be competitive we’ve got one team that is miles and miles ahead of everyone else and if you haven’t figured that out what other club in the Premier League can sell their reserve striker for 80 million there’s not many who can sell their first team striker for 80 million in fact Villa with Watkins, Newcastle with Isak. I mean even even Liverpool can’t sell Nunes for 80 million, we can’t sell Rasmus or Zirkzee for 80 million at the moment Spurs won’t get 80 million for Richarison, Chelsea won’t get 80 million for Jackson, Brentford can’t get 80 million for Toney, so Man City are selling their reserve striker for 80 million and there’s probably only two clubs in the league that can sell their starting striker for that and you’re telling me that this ain’t a dominated juggernaut predictable league.”

This is how fans reacted after Mark Goldbridge fumes ‘it’s not fair’ as Man City sell Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for £80m…

@DeyanAdamov: Buying Maguire for the same amount is perfectly fine I guess.

@MCFC_Saul: Our “reserve” striker got 32 g/a last season and 22 the season before. He is a World Champion who scored twice in the WC semi final, and twice in the CWC final. You paid £72m for Hojlund who had 9 Serie A goals as a reference

@AdamP1242: You spent £72million on Rasmus Hojlund last season who only scored 10 times in Italian football, you only say it’s unfair because it’s not Manchester United making the sale

@kylelovelly: How can you say that when they signed Hojlund for 72 Mil, I’d take Alvarez over him any day. Pure waffle 😂

@Ian_M1: Oh the irony. This is how every fan outside of the elite, even the corrupt PL, feels. He’s supposedly a Man Utd fan. They’re just as complicit in the ruination of the game.

@adamwiklo: Their back up striker that gets into every Prem team and majority of sides in the world, can play multiple positions. Won every trophy at 22/23? It’s just jealousy more than anything. City may have breached but can’t say they don’t do good business

@GianfrancoShoIa: The cheek of this lad, I’d not be shouting about the benefits of 80m to a club when Man U got PSR exemption to the tune of….80m. Plus hasn’t his club just spend 50m on a child from the French league? He’s like one of the spoilt children from Charlie and the chocolate factory

@ssviewss: Do you know how hilarious the irony is that a Man United fan is losing their head over a team SELLING someone for big money while United broke the transfer market from BUYING someone for big money?

@Macho_Grande1: His club spent the bones of £200m on Maguire, Anthony & Ramus Bumlund ffs…

@N_Klaassen1878:
‘It’s always bloody Man City!’
‘It’s not fair! Waaah!’
Any comments on United’s £75m of special treatment by Dicky Masters & @premierleague ?
Or on Worzel Ratcliffe’s appeal for taxpayer money for a new ground?
The ESL?
🤡🤦‍♂️
PS: In what world do juggernauts, ‘fly high’? Whopper!!

@Frankie__09: @markgoldbridge can you discuss in why it’s not fair in how every club was given only £1m for COVID allowance apart from Manchester United who got £40m?

@danm16476: It is up to every individual club to invest and get the best out of their players which in return allows the club to decide what value that player brings to the club. If your club doesn’t do that then that’s not a well run club 🤷

@SimplyMaresca: Didn’t you just buy 2 unproven strikes for nearly £80m each

@Pitched_Mike: He maybe our ‘backup striker’ but he’s also our backup No10 and walks into most other PL clubs starting XIs as their main striker. He’s also the most decorated player in the world over the last 12-18 months. It’s called top scouting.

@IrishGeordie1: His team just spent 50 mil on an 18 year old with one season of first team football in France

@NUFCT0ny:
Hojlund + Zirkzee G/A last season – 36
Combined price – 120M
Alvarez G/A last season – 32
Price – 80M
I’m sorry if manure is stupid

@Charlie__182: They scouted him and took a punt on him at £14m. People can be angry all they want, but I this case it’s just good business and scouting.

@rebekkarnold: Your club literally paid £72m for a striker with about 60 senior appearances at club level… sit this one out. 😂

@NUFCLC: “For the good of football” no, for the good of your team. You couldn’t care less about the state of football – you were advocating PL games being played in the USA a week ago.

@cjgarter: While you’re saying this isn’t fair. Any chance you could talk bout the £75m granted from the premier league to keep #MUFC from breaching PSR? While clubs like #EFC and #NFFC where hit with points deduction and #NUFC and #AVFC have had to sell as not to breach PSR

@Ashleymcduff1: Not sure what’s this cunt is crying about. So firstly we’re not allowed to spend our own money because it’s not grown in a natural way. Then we buy a cheap striker who goes on to win everything and wee not allowed to sell him for 80m which is less then they paid for Antony

@scottycox: What the fook is this guy on about, £80m for a top class 24 year old striker who’s won EVERY trophy there is to win in football is cheap, he’s so salty it’s unreal. You paid £86m for antony you clown 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
