Fans invade pitch taunting each other at Aldershot v Woking and Rochdale v Spennymoor

Fans invade the pitch taunting each other at Saturday’s FA Trophy semi finals, Aldershot v Woking and Rochdale v Spennymoor.

The Shots secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over their local rivals Woking at the EBB Stadium, earning their first-ever trip to the FA Trophy final at Wembley.

The match at Aldershot was a tense and eventful encounter, marked by two penalties, a red card, and a late, decisive goal.

The game began with Woking taking an early chance, as Inih Effiong fired a shot just over the bar in the third minute.

Aldershot responded with their own pressure but struggled to break through Woking’s defence initially. The first half ended goalless, with both sides creating opportunities but failing to convert.

The second half brought the drama. Woking took the lead in the 55th minute when Lewis Walker headed in a high-arching cross from Jamie Andrews, surprising the hosts despite Aldershot’s dominance in possession.

The tide shifted when Woking’s Harry Beautyman was sent off with a red card following an altercation with Aldershot’s Theo Widdrington, reducing Woking to ten men. The exact nature of the incident wasn’t clear to all, but it appeared to involve a cheap shot, leaving Woking with a steep challenge.

Aldershot levelled on the 75th minute via a penalty scored by James Henry, capitalising on their numerical advantage.

The Shots then pushed relentlessly for a winner, with Josh Barrett and others testing Woking’s goalkeeper Will Jasskelainen.

The match extended into over 15 minutes of stoppage time, and just when it seemed destined for a shootout, Jack Barham delivered the decisive blow.

In the 93rd minute, Ryan Jones sent a floating cross from the left, and Barham headed it home, sparking wild celebrations among the sold-out crowd of over 7,000.

This victory marked a historic moment for Aldershot, who had never reached the FA Trophy final before, while Woking, despite their resilience and a strong showing from their fans, fell short of a return to Wembley.

The result highlighting Aldershot’s recent resurgence under manager Tommy Widdrington, setting them up for a shot at the trophy on May 11th, 2025.

Meanwhile, Spennymoor Town secured a dramatic victory over Rochdale in a penalty shootout at the Crown Oil Arena, earning their first-ever appearance in the FA Trophy final.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw after normal time, with Spennymoor staging a late comeback.

Rochdale took the lead early in the second half through Devante Rodney’s close-range goal in the 48th minute.

But then Spennymoor responded quickly, making it 1-1 just two minutes later when Fin Shrimpton slotted home a through ball from Rob Ramshaw.

Rochdale were ahead again in the 54th minute via Aidan Barlow’s penalty, but Spennymoor fought back again, with substitute Aidan Rutledge heading in a looping ball from Matty Dolan in the 95th minute of stoppage time to force the shootout.

In the penalty shootout, Spennymoor emerged victorious with a 5-4 scoreline. Both teams successfully converted their first four penalties, with Spennymoor’s takers—Glen Taylor, Matty Dolan, Olly Dyson, Aidan Rutledge, and Reece Staunton—all scoring, and Rochdale’s Sam Beckwith, Aidan Barlow, Kairo Mitchell, and Tobi Buyabu matching them. T

he decisive moment came when Rochdale’s fifth taker, Tarryn Allarakhia, had his penalty saved by Spennymoor’s emergency goalkeeper Rohan Luthra, diving to his right. Reece Staunton’s successful kick sealed the win, sending Spennymoor to Wembley to face Aldershot Town in the final on May 11, 2025, cheered on by over 1,000 traveling supporters.

Twitter users reacted to seeing fans invade the pitch taunting each other at Aldershot v Woking and Rochdale v Spennymoor…

@newpowerhh: Rochdale fans were a disgrace according to the local radio commentary.

@CharxRafc: I wasn’t one of them. To be fair both sets of fans had their idiots. Their fans came on the pitch and taunting our fans, so our fans then got involved too (idiotic minority of both sets). Did it get a mention when Spenny fans ran on the pitch and over to Liam Hogan? That was uncalled for going for a player.

@AGW0926: As an Aldershot fan I can say the group that went in front of your supporters were embarrassing. The majority wanted to celebrate our win. Think it’s harsh to tarnish the whole club in a minority if the 6000 Aldershot fans in attendance

@richardwoodger: You’d think after a win they’d want to celebrate. From that it looks like their only intention is to goad Woking fans. Sad.

@CarpmanDave83: Cheated! Fans run onto the pitch, punching Woking players, hope Aldershot get kicked out and Woking back in

@adamluke22: That’s just what happens in derby games though. Sometimes you’re going to take a dig from an opposition fan and you just have to deal with it unfortunately

@LukeAMarsden: That Rochdale fans? #oafc

@CharlieRafc: Mainly Spennymoor but our dickheads ran on after them and it kicked off

@tdhemmings: If you’re a Rochdale fan who ran onto the pitch at the end, you’ve embarrassed yourself. You looked like dickheads, if we’d have won and Spennymoor fans ran on the pitch, it would have pissed us off. They beat us because we couldn’t take our chances, end of. #RAFC

@David__Fraser: I thought this was the away fans but turns out it’s the Rochdale fans hahahah

@LukeHOAFC: Dale fans charged on the pitch and started scrapping

@DylanRAFC: Both sets of fans all fighting

@lukedharrison: 😂😂😂😂 the gift that keeps on giving

@SheridansBlues: To Spennymoor ahahahahahhahahahah #rafc #oafc
