Fans cheekily joke about Bishop’s Stortford’s relegation while others are more sympathetic

Fans cheekily joke about Bishop’s Stortford’s relegation from the National League North while others are more sympathetic towards them.

The Hertfordshire based club’s time in the 6th tier is over after one season, but right before it began, it started on a more controversial note.

They won the Isthmian League Premier Division title for the 2022/23 season, earning promotion to what they thought would be the National League South, however they were instead placed in the National League North. See more on that HERE.

An appeal was put in to the Football Association, as they would have to travel almost 7,700 miles for their away round trips, but the FA decided to uphold it’s original decision.

The 2023/24 season was just as tough as Bishop’s Stortford imagined it to be, and they’ve become the first team in the division to get relegated.

They tweeted after their 3-0 defeat at Alfreton: “Following today’s defeat the Blues have been relegated back to step 3 for the 2024/5 season. A tough old campaign that isn’t done yet but a special thank you to the officials, volunteers and supporters who have given up so much time this season on this adventure #allezlesbleu”

Player Jack Giddens tweeted: “As skipper just wanted to reach out & apologies for all involved with the club.

“Especially all the fans, volunteers & all that give up their time to help keep the club running!

“This season we haven’t been good enough on the pitch we’ve gave it our all but just not been good enough so no excuses!

“Now we need everyone to stick with us for all the remaining fixtures then it’s back to the drawing board.

“Regroup & go again coming back stronger!

“Hope to see as many as you possible Tuesday night! Gidds”

As you could imagine, fans cheekily decided to mock Bishop’s Stortford’s relegation while others are more sympathetic…

@jontheduck96: Where we’ve been put in the Scottish Highlands league

@nobbler50: Let’s all take the time to Thank the FA for an awful decision to place us in a ridiculous position, we’ll done to the staff, players and everyone involved with BSFC this season 👏👏👏

@nobbler50: Braintree are further North than BSFC, away games quite sad when we are on the M1 going past Hemel and St Albans who would have done less travelling, but BSFC got on with it and tried to compete

@nobbler50: Not disputing that but you all say we are the furthest North which we are not but its done now and we go again next season

@BonskiSklep: Nope, 48 teams divided between north and south. You were the 25th most Southern team, hence the 24th most Northern. The FA were right and you just whined about it and capitulated.

@Olli3King_: i’m sorry but for once the fa wasn’t at fault there hands were tied how the make-up of 48 conference ‘north’ & conference ‘south’ fell. Bishops Stortford were the most Northerly, southern side.

@Stevenageontop: Unlucky. You couldnt do much with the league you was put in. Hopefully you instantly come back up and get put in the correct league

@toptargets: It was a total stitch up from the moment you got promoted.

@HadleyBricks: Bet you can’t wait for confirmation of your placement in the Northern Premier League for next season! 😉

@mickfulker: Tough being put in the north division, hopefully you’ll be more competitive next season

@BroxbourneYids: Hopefully in a ‘southern’ based league this time

@LatentOrient: Given a rough hand being placed in the North.

@CaptainSoviyite: From an Aveley fan, saying you were dealt a bad hand with your place in the Nln is a massive understatement, hopefully if you make you way back up after next season the FA will let you go to the far more reasonable traveling distance of the southern league.

@dannyg182pilt: Being moved into the NPL 😂😂😂

@HungryTed: A season to forget. Can’t end quick enough.

@JamesHoughton4: Unlucky lads, it’s been a tough one this year, hopefully a bit of weight off the shoulders for the run in. Keep doing your best 👍🏻

@cknnr17: Let’s be real, Stort were never gonna be able to compete in the North. Utter shame that it happened again but hopefully they can bounce back and get into the South

@bekhowell41: I am begging the FA to put them in the southern central rather than the isthmian 😂

@adzayoung_12: Love everyone saying they got put in the ‘wrong league’. If they were actually any good at football then they might have had a chance. You can’t blame travel as an excuse. Poor poor excuse.

@groundhopp: Have a good season in the northern premier lol don’t ban me

@Stevemann84: Got to feel sorry for these guys. In the wrong division.

@athole52: Tough old season for you guys in the league you shouldn’t of been in. Best of luck for the future

@M1keR1mmer01: Good luck for next season – had a great trip down in October 👍 Think it’s fair to say your position was unfortunate and hopefully for your sake you will end up in the NLS if you come back up to Step 2
