FA Cup TikTok account cause backlash after mocking Stockport player’s serious injury

The official FA Cup TikTok account cause quite the backlash after mocking a Stockport County player’s serious injury this week.

The Hatters right-back Macauley Southam-Hales was “very lucky” not to be seriously injured after he had collided with an advertising hoarding during their FA Cup Second Round replay win over Charlton Athletic, says boss Dave Challinor.

The 26-year-old was nudged by Charlton’s George Dobson and quickly taken to hospital following the incident, obviously mindful over when Bath City’s Alex Fletcher underwent brain surgery after also colliding with a hoarding.

“He’s got a whopper of an egg on the back of his head,” Challinor told BBC Radio Manchester.

“In the grand scheme of things, if he has a clear bill of health, he’s very, very lucky. If you look at it from a football perspective, as much as people might not mean certain things or meaning to hurt anybody, if that’s not endangering an opponent, I’m not sure what is.

“Regardless, it should be a sending off. He’s probably an inch away from potentially a fractured skull.”

Fletcher endured a near one-month stay in hospital, and had been in intensive care, with his injury leading to Bath abandoning their National League South game against Dulwich Hamlet.

Challinor said: “We’ve had the ultimate learning experience from a player who’s ended up in intensive care and has had to have an operation on his brain.

“The lump on the back of his (Southam-Hales) neck is scary. When people watch that video clip back it’s not very good viewing. He’s really fortunate if he comes out completely unscathed. We hope he does.”

Tanya Southam Hales @tanyasoutham said: “This made me feel physically sick!! What poor taste this was and definitely not a joke when he ended up in hospital. JUST WOW!!

“A big thank you to everyone for your concern. Macca has been given the all clear from the hospital he will no doubt be feeling that today with the size of the lump. Feeling very relieved this morning 🥹”

Will Collar’s hat trick for Stockport County saw them beat managerless Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup replay.

Charlton, who got rid of Ben Garner, saw an early lead when County’s keeper Ben Hinchliffe fumbled at a corner and the ball bounced off Akil Wright, his own defender.

Stockport took control of the tie, with Collar on the other side-footing an equaliser. County resisted a few good first-half attempts.

Ryan Rydel’s free kick struck the post in the first half, before Collar scored his second from 80 yards before scoring a penalty shortly afterwards.

As mentioned, the FA Cup TikTok account cause backlash after mocking a Stockport player’s serious injury…

@chris_eaton_: Wow. That’s genuinely ridiculous. They got a kid running that account or something?

@ECFCKeenzy: Considering it’s the FA cup and I’m assuming it’s an FA ran account, it should be someone pretty senior and stuff is checked thoroughly first before posting so this one’s gone under the radar I reckon.

@itsnickelflysk3: Disgusting! After what happened to the Bath City player the other week you would have thought they would have had moresense & compassion than that, specially as MSH had to go to hospital!
Shame on you @EmiratesFACup 🤬🤬🤬

@Matt_CAFC: Poor from @EmiratesFACup, especially after the incident at Bath City few weeks ago 🤦‍♂️

@BrockersMark: Hope @MacauleySoutham is ok and recovering well @tanyasoutham heard he ended up at hospital. Please let us know he’s ok 💙🎩

@Michaelallen_99: Wow that is genuinely appalling

@George26011: That’s a ridiculous video.

@WrexhamAFC4: @m_w890 They’ve had a stinker

@Cody_Cooke: Wow 😮 Cannot believe what I’ve just seen. How the @EmiratesFACup can joke about this is an absolute disgrace!!

@grahamrobert76: Totally agree, disgusting and in poor taste.

@mb107614739: Not a great look @EmiratesFACup

@dannymillen21: Very poor

@TheSportSocial: Nah this is absolutely horrendous “banter” 🤮

@JamieEason19: Pathetic @EmiratesFACup @tiktok_uk Shameful behaviour 🤬🤬 hope our @MacauleySoutham is okay @tanyasoutham #WeMadeHim @BarryTownUnited

@DanRowland75: No. Not funny. Clearly someone’s who has never played the game to a decent level of at all let alone been brought up decent and aware of current affairs of the game.

@FR27Design: How on earth is this funny in anyway you can see his head smash off the metal. Hope whoever’s in charge gets the sack

@Deano046: Absolutely disgusting from the FA. Glad they think it’s funny. Bunch of wankers at the FA

@thatchersend: This is disgusting @EmiratesFACup, head injuries are nothing to joke about. Imagine @BathCity_FC fans, players and staff seeing this from the F.A cup account it would make them really angry and upset because of what happened to Alex Fletcher.

@Chris78901: One way to get sacked from the marketing department 😳

@kianb_: They’ve had an absolute shocker here 😂😂

@lewisegan: That’s horrendous

@AaronIrwin7: Yeah that’s shocking. Don’t see it as something to joke about, and considering it’s an FA ran account? Wow.

@LouisJFell: this is horrifically out of touch

@michaelowen730: This sums up every issue RE: head injuries in our sport. After what happened at Bath City a few weeks ago and in the WC, the FA think it’s appropriate the make a joke about it? Awful.

@sammight_say: This is sickening. The FA goes on a lot about head injuries and concussion but mocks a horrible looking injury for a few likes?? What sick fuck thinks this is funny let alone enough to make a TikTok out of it

@dthomas19881: Massive own goal 🤦🏼‍♂️
