Wrexham make what fans have called a ‘statement of intent’ signing with a player from Championship club Hull City on Friday morning.
Midfielder Andy Cannon has joined the Welsh promotion favourites on a two-and-a-half year deal after being on loan at Stockport last season, pipping his new club to the title.
He started his career with Rochdale, while also had a spell with Portsmouth, with most of his career spent playing in League One between 2014 and 2021.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Wrexham AFC are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Andy Cannon on a two-and-a-half-year deal, from Hull City.
Cannon, 26, has penned a deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, as he looks to add to the National League title he earned last season while on loan with Stockport County.
And on his move to Wrexham, Cannon said: “I’m over the moon. We’ve been talking for a few weeks and so to finally get it done… I’m really looking forward to getting going.
“Everything that’s going on here… it’s a positive place to be around. I played here last season, and saw the atmosphere and I can’t wait to get going to be a part of it.
“I like to be on the ball, I like to drive forward from time to time, but hopefully just keep everything calm in the middle, get on the ball, push the team up the pitch and show my quality.”
He previously progressed through the Rochdale academy, making 100 league appearances and earning a move to Portsmouth as a result.
After two-and-a-half years with Pompey, he moved to EFL Championship side Hull last season, and scored on his debut on the opening day of the season.
Having ended last season on loan with Stockport County, Cannon started the current campaign with two starts and four substitute appearances for the Tigers.
He now makes the move to North Wales, and could be in line to make his debut at the Racecourse Ground on Tuesday night against Chesterfield.
Manager Phil Parkinson said of the signing: “We’re delighted to welcome Andy to the Club.
“He is a quality player; we’re always looking to improve the squad, and coupling that with Jordan Davies’ injury it was important deal.
“He’s a player with EFL experience, and he’s a good age to come in and grow with the Club.”
HULL STATEMENT:
Hull City can confirm that midfielder Andy Cannon has completed a permanent transfer to National League side Wrexham for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old made 17 appearances for the Tigers – seven of them starts – after signing from Portsmouth in June 2021 and scored his only goal on his debut in a 4-1 Championship victory at Preston North End.
The former Rochdale man spent the second half of last season on loan in the fifth tier with Stockport County, playing nine times as the Hatters won promotion to the EFL as champions.
He will be hoping for similar success in North Wales, with Phil Parkinson’s team second in the National League with 47 points from 21 games, a point behind leaders Notts County.
We would like to thank Andy for his efforts during his time at the club and wish him well for the future.
