Ex-Leeds, Tottenham, Newcastle, Watford, Sunderland, Bristol City player Danny Rose is reportedly ‘training with York City’.
He has been out of action since September, when his contract at Watford was mutually terminated. But now, Doncaster born Rose, is training to improve his fitness in the hope of finding a professional contract.
He wants to become match-fit ready while an appealing option as a free agent. In the meantime, he also appears on our TV screens as a pundit, most recently for Sky Sports.

He may also be in attendance at the LNER Community Stadium during the run-in to the season.

“With Danny, just for us it was a case of him coming in and having some light training sessions.” Morton explained to BBC Radio York, as per York Press.
“There’s nothing about him signing or anything, it’s someone that we’ve known for a while and he’s a great kid.
“He’s actually based down south, but when he’s up here he was on about just coming in and having the odd training session with us.
“He’s just been in and around the lads and using his experience whilst also getting fit. He was in training with us today and it was brilliant to have him around the lads, you could see that they were buzzing.
“He won’t be with us all the time, it’ll just be a case of when he’s back up north he’ll come in and help out. He’s on about coming to a couple of games as well and just giving us his advice.
“[On Rose signing permanently at York] I can’t see that happening, no. He’s a great lad and I’ve known him for many years now.
“He makes me feel old! He was at Leeds United when I was first there and he came through as a hot prospect and he’s had an unbelievable career in terms of that, only a couple of years ago he was at the World Cup and at the Euros.
“You can see that he’s got real quality but it’s just the way he is around the group as well.
“And like I said to the lads, when he is around us and at training just ask him for any advice you want, and when he’s up north he’ll carry on training with us and help us until the end of the season.
He reported on former club Tottenham last week as they were eliminated from the Champions League against AC Milan.
Danny plays as a left-back, starting his professional career at Leeds in 2006, having progressed through the club’s youth ranks, but left for Spurs in July 2007.
Having failed to break into the Leeds first team, he joined Watford on loan in March 2009, making seven appearances, and then joined Peterborough on loan in September 2009.
After making six appearances for Peterborough, he returned to Tottenham, and made his debut for the latter club.
Having still been unable to establish himself as a regular player, he joined Bristol City on loan in September 2010, and made 17 appearances.
Although Rose became more involved in the Tottenham team during the 2011–12 season, making 20 appearances in all competitions, he spent the following season on loan to Sunderland, where he made 29 appearances.
In January 2020, Rose joined Newcastle United on loan for the rest of the 2019–20 season.
Rose made appearances for England at the under-17 and under-19 levels before making his under-21 debut in 2009.
Since then, he established himself in the team, making 29 appearances.
He earned his first senior cap in a 3–2 victory against Germany in 2016.
York is currently being managed by Michael Morton, the club’s interim boss having initially joined the club as assistant manager in December after previously acting as Youth Development Phase Lead Coach over at Leeds.
After David Webb’s departure, Morton was appointed interim manager of York, who currently sit 18th in National League standings.

Here’s how fans reacted as the ex-Leeds, Tottenham, Newcastle, Watford and Sunderland player Danny Rose gets in ‘training with York City’…
@reeee1993: Can’t get my head around this. If #ycfc are gonna throw money at signing Rose, PLEASE PLEASE could we sign a bloody striker aswell.
@ESurgenor: Announce Danny Rose
@Browny_90: Very bizarre. Only reason why I can think we’ve done this is to free up wages to bring in Danny Rose?
@916connor_: babe wake up another unbelievable f*cking story is happening at york city and it’s not even the ownership this time #ycfc
@wicketlufc: he’s living at Harrogate now, thought he might of signed for them
@moxon_will: Sorry? Tbf with Whittle injured we do need a left-back and he’s a Yorkshire lad
@magicspongers: Danny Rose is training with York?!?!?! #ycfc
@eeevierose” This club honestly never fails to shock me, good or bad 😂 #ycfc
@cal_ycfc_efc: Hopefully he signs on
@SeshDemon: Can’t be worse than Whittle
@mattwatf: He spent half a season at Watford and never even came close to being fit, hopefully for his career he can find a way to do it now.
@ycfc_jj: Get Rose in
@oliversheard: Announce rose
@Yorkie_182: Making space in the squad for Danny Rose?
Ian Simpson: Get him on non contract, build his fitness quicker in games. We need a left back
Matt Usher: Dear God no. He hasn’t played for 2 years. Sanders could have played left back. Not that we play a back 4 anyway. Although not sure what the formation has been the last few games.
Brendan Thorpe: Maybe he can finally step out of his famous cousins shadow if he gets a few games but I doubt it, nothing on Michael Rankine
Paul Ellis: Play him left back. Mitch in midfield
Mark Woodhouse: WTF?
Neil Ferguson: Get him in the team Saturday
Dean Cuthbert: Could do a lot worse IMHO.
Alan Goforth: Very charitable! Meanwhile we need a couple of defenders, a midfielder and a centre forward/number 9 before the massive 6 pointer on Saturday! 😐🤔
