Ex-England and Everton player spent ‘three weeks watching porn’ to help recovery

Ex-England and Everton player Jack Rodwell revealed he once spent ‘three weeks watching porn’ to help recovery when out injured.

The 30-year-old is currently without a club after his short stint at Sheffield United came to an end after spending a season-and-a-half at the Blades.

He broke through into the Everton first team in 2007 after being part of the youth set-up since 1998.

However, when injured as a youngster, the then-England U21 international jetted off to a Caribbean island to recuperate.

And speaking to the media about what he was up to, he gave a surprising yet very x-rated answer.

“I remember one trip, we asked, I’m going say his name what the hell, Jack Rodwell,” Journalist Paul Jiggins recalled to The Sun podcast’s, Swedes 2 Turnips 1.

“He’d been out injured at Everton, just making his name there and had a serious injury.

“Everton agreed we could speak to him, the FA handled the interview, it gave them their first taste of being interviewed on the international stage.

“So we said to Jack, how did you convalesce and do rehabilitation for recovery after your operation?

“He said I went away to a Caribbean island, just had three weeks sitting there, feet up just watching box sets and DVDs on my laptop.

“Of course the question of a journalist, because this stuff writes itself, was what sort of films were you watching?

“And without any flicker, anything like that, no irony he just went ‘oh, porn’.

“Stuart Pearce spat his latte out, and I went Jack I’m going to ask you that question again, and the answer you’re going to give me is 24.

“That’s how long ago it was. No wonder he was out for so long.”

Rodwell moved on from the Toffees in 2012 when a big-money move to Manchester City beckoned.

However, after picking multiple injuries, Rodwell’s appearances in sky blue became infrequent, and it wasn’t long until he was shown the door.

Rodwell tumbled down the EFL with Sunderland, where he secured an unwanted record for most Premier League games without a win.

However, the 30-year-old shocked many when he somehow found himself back in the Premier League in 2020 for Sheffield United.

Rodwell is now without a club once more after he parted ways with the Bramall Lane outfit.

Sheffield United let the midfielder go following their relegation to the Championship last season.

Talking of porn, there was actually one footballer who went down that route and made a very successful career in it.

Former Southampton player Danny Mountain was so great as a pornstar that he is one of the top 10 best paid in fact.

He had dreams of becoming a top professional footballer whilst growing up, however, they were shattered by an injury.

This is something that he suffered in the latter stages of being a teenager while playing for Southampton, linking up with them as a nine year old and then went on to turn down interest from Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, West Ham and Tottenham in showing loyalty to the club he wanted to represent.

At the age of 16, Danny suffered a serious blow to his knee following a mistimed tackle, going through months of therapy before coming to terms with the fact his career was over just as he was flourishing.

Having already been trained as a carpenter, his career took another surprise turn at the age of 19 following an audition that was initially offered to his partner, who was a Page Three girl.

He told the Daily Echo: “I was dating a Page Three girl. Her agent wanted her to get into porn. She wasn’t keen but he gave her the details of an audition in London and I went along.

“I didn’t know what to expect but I was full of confidence. I wasn’t at all nervous about the sexual part. I was worried about talking on camera – I couldn’t control my face I was so nervous.”
