Eric Dier ‘goes full Steve McClaren’ while putting on a German accent in his first TV interview while at Bayern Munich.
Eric Dier reacted to making his debut for Bayern Munich during their 1-0 win over Union Berlin and adds that it was a ‘proud moment’ while also having the ‘pleasure’ of playing alongside long term teammate Harry Kane again.
Raphael Guerreiro got the only goal of the game to hand Bayern Munich a home win over Union Berlin; with Eric Dier coming on for his Bayern debut as a half-time sub; Union boss Nenad Bjelica also saw red for pushing Leroy Sane in the face in what was a touchline spat.

Interviewer: Eric Dier joins us. It was your first match in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich. So tell us, what was it to play in the Bundesliga in front of this crowd?
Eric Dier, with a German accent: Yeah, a very proud moment for me, obviously, to make my debut for this club. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family. And obviously I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed playing here. I’m happy to have made debut here in this stadium is even nicer. So, yeah, I’m really happy with how I’ve settled and obviously to make my debut and hopefully I can continue to help the team.
Interviewer: What are the main differences between the Bundesliga and the Premier League?
Eric Dier: It’s difficult for me to say. Obviously, after just 45 minutes, obviously I’m sure I will start to understand. Obviously the crowd is a little bit different, the atmosphere is different, not better or worse. They’re just very different atmospheres. And yeah, in terms of the football, I need more games to understand better. But obviously, from what I’ve seen just watching on the TV and obviously watching the game last weekend, every team is technically very good. They all try to play quite a lot. And yeah, there’s a very nice style to the football here. But as I said, I need more games to understand better.
Interviewer: Just one last question, because you play along with Harry Kane for 360 matches right now, what is it like to play along with him?
Eric Dier: Obviously it’s a pleasure to play with him. I think the first time we played together was in England, under 19s or 20s. So we’ve played together a very long time. It’s a pleasure to play with him, to work with him every day as well. I think we both share quite a similar style in the way that we work, in the way that we are every day. So, yeah, it’s a pleasure to get to spend every day with him, watch him work, learn from him, him and work together. So, yeah, it happens that we’re back together here, which no one could have imagined. But yeah, I’m really happy to be playing with him.
This has given fans vibes of when Steve McClaren stepped into a whole new level of cringeworthy awfulness when he came out with a Dutch accent during his interviews back in 2008.
And in 2012, Joey Barton surprised journalists by hosting a post-match news conference with a French accent, after his first league game for Marseille.

@brentfordok: Why do all English players put on a German accent when they play in the bundusliga π. Besides Harry Kane, he can barely speak English as it is

@TaintlessRed: I’ve heard Dier speak a lot of times but never with this accent. Mate you do realise you’re still speaking English even if you’re putting on a bit of a faux German accent.
@TaylorBrown98: Does he know he doesn’t need to put on an accent? #Dier #Bayern
@BryceWilcock: A week in Bavaria and heβs already speaking with a German accent. Heβs gone and done a Schteve McLaren π
@jt_tiz: Why do these players put accents on when they go abroad?
