Dulwich Hamlet get their fans excited as they confirm their new manager Hakan Hayrettin following the departure of Paul Barnes.
Hayrettin comes to the National League South club after his Maidstone United side won promotion from the same league last season to the National League, also picking up the National League South Manager of the Year following a vote.
Paul Barnes left the Hamlet on Wednesday, due to a disappointing form which sees them winless in 10 games in all competitions and place 19th in the 6th tier of English football, just four points above the relegation zone.
CLUB STATEMENT ON NEW MANAGER:
Statement from Chairman Ben Clasper and the DHFC Board of Directors regarding the appointment of a new manager.
Dulwich Hamlet Football Club have today appointed Hakan Hayrettin as the new men’s first team manager.
Hakan has most recently been manager at Maidstone United, with whom he achieved promotion to the National League last season, and was voted the National League South Manager of the Year.
Hakan has also experience of the higher echelons of non-league football, having had two spells in charge of Braintree Town, and was part of John Still’s coaching team at Luton Town when they won the National League title in 2014.
Prior to that Hakan enjoyed success at Grays Athletic, winning the Isthmian League Division One North title in 2013.
Hakan said, “I am excited to be at Dulwich Hamlet. The project here is incredibly appealing. We have a committed and passionate fanbase, who have a clear expectation for the club. First and foremost though, my immediate focus is this weekend.”
Chairman Ben Clasper added, “Hakan has great pedigree at this level, with a track record of success, and with the club in its current position and its aspirations for how we feel we should perform at this level, Hakan is best placed to deliver on both fronts.”
Everyone at the club would like to extend a warm welcome to Hakan.
DULWICH STATEMENT ON PAUL BARNES’ DEPARTURE
Dulwich Hamlet Football Club can confirm that Paul Barnes has departed his position as the men’s first team manager following lengthy discussions about the current direction of the team’s fortunes and the longer term projects at the club.
Paul joined the club in September 2022 and was instrumental in stabilising the club in the National League South during a difficult transition period following the departure of the previous management team. We would like to thank Paul and his backroom staff for their efforts during their time with the club and will remember with admiration the turnaround in results and the unbeaten run throughout December and early January under Paul and his staff.
We hope to revisit the original discussions with Paul about the longer term development of the club both on and off the pitch that first attracted us to working with him and hope that all fans join us in recognising the contribution of Paul stepping up and placing those original plans on hold to address the immediate priorities of the first team finding themselves in the relegation positions.
The process of appointing a new manager of the men’s first team is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.
