Dean Windass cries in video after his son Josh scores winner at Wembley 15 years after his own

Former footballer Dean Windass cries in an emotional video after his son Josh scores a winner at Wembley 15 years after his own.

Dean Windass, a former Hull City and Bradford City forward, shared an emotional post via his social media when his son scored the only goal in Monday’s League One playoff final.

In the 123rd minute of the match, Josh Windass scored in front of the Owls’ travelling support of around 44,000 fans.

15 years ago, it was his dad’s turn to be in the spotlight as he scored a stunning volley on the same pitch for Premier League bound Hull.

Sheffield Wednesday will host a promotion procession through the city in order to celebrate the success of the team and their promotion to the Championship.

Dean Windass said: “I can’t stop crying. The winning goal at Wembley 15 years ago and it has just happened to me again. It is mad.

“My little boy scored the winner at Wembley. He was 12-years-old when he watched me do it and he just emulated it.

“I just can’t believe it. Thanks for all your support and all your messages yesterday. Even Brian Horton – ‘Nobby’ – wow! I cried the same day and I am still crying now.

“I just text him now [Josh] and spoke to his mum as well. The emotions that go through your mind are just unbelievable to say you have done it and then he has gone and down it.

“Hopefully Jordan will be the next one. That would cap it off!

“What a day. Congratulations to all the Sheffield Wednesday supporters to Darren [Moore] my (old) teammate, the staff and all the players.

“There’s no I in team. When I did it, it was off everybody, not just me.

“Have a lovely Tuesday. I’m not at work today because I can’t stop crying. Sorry for crying but well done Josh. I love you so much.”

@WindassHelen: Fantastic day proud of our son and sons! It was josh day and we all got to witness it! Thanks to Kerrie also for the call this morning congratulating me as she supported us all. Iv never taken CBD oil but my god I should have yesterday my bloody nerves are shattered ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€œIt’s absolutely incredible โ€“ I said this morning he’ll get the winner,โ€ Dean Windass said on Sky Sports.

โ€œI can’t believe he’s actually headed it, because he loves his hair too much,โ€ he added. โ€œI’m the proudest man in the world. When I scored here I thought my life would change. I’ve got two boys but this boy โ€“ it’s unbelievable.โ€

Josh Windass on Sky Sports Football: “It was probably the worst standard of game you will ever watch. The standard from both teams was shocking. We worked all week on me playing off the front and trying to get to the edge of the box for cutbacks and thankfully it paid off.

“With five minutes to go I thought it was going to penalties. I was getting scared! I was just thinking on the pitch, ‘try and do something’, but nothing was coming. Luckily last minute, Gregory’s done all the work and I just put it in.

“People just think you are only in the game because of your old man who played. He [his Dad] needs to lose a few pounds then he’ll be alright [to play].”
