David Prutton’s EFL playoff semi final 1st leg predictions – 9th May

Sky Sports pundit David Prutton has given his predictions for English Football League fixtures.

The former Nottingham Forest, Southampton, Leeds, Swindon, Sheffield Wednesday and England U21 footballer who currently works as a presenter, pundit and commentator has given score predictions on SIX matches.

All of them are playoff semi final first leg matches from the Championship, League One and League Two.

See what he went with below and on the next page…

NEWPORT v MANSFIELD

He said on the Sky Sports website: “Two sides who have arrived in the play-offs in very different ways. Mansfield finished three places higher than Newport but it will be interesting to see if they can recover from their final-day disappointment at MK Dons. A draw would have been enough for them to seal automatic promotion, but they couldn’t get the job done.

“Newport, meanwhile, have snuck right into seventh and only sealed it with a few minutes to go of the campaign. They will be riding high and their recent FA Cup record under Michael Flynn suggests they know how to deal with the pressure of big games. I think they will edge the first leg.”

The score David Prutton has predicted for this game is: 1-0

TRANMERE v FOREST GREEN

He said on the Sky Sports website: “Both of these sides may have been feeling they could have found their way into the top three this season, but considering Tranmere are newly-promoted and Forest Green weren’t too far off relegation a year ago, they have both had fantastic campaigns.

“Tranmere are excellent at home, and Forest Green are exceptional away from home, so you feel like this could be a pivotal first leg – perhaps more than any other. I fancy Tranmere in the first leg, but it will be tight.”

The score David Prutton has predicted for this game is: 2-1

DERBY v LEEDS

He said on the Sky Sports website: “In terms of drama this game should be right up there, even without taking into consideration what happened between these sides earlier in the season. More importantly for Derby, they have been given a footballing lesson by Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds twice, and you can only hope for the Rams’ sake that Frank Lampard has learned from that.

“Leeds, in form terms, are not playing well. They picked up just a point from their final four games and now they have to pick themselves up again quickly. This should be closer than the two league games were.”

The score David Prutton has predicted for this game is: 1-1
