David Prutton’s Championship score predictions have been revealed for what will be the final weekend of the main 2019/20 season.
There is still so much to resolve, with teams battling for promotion, a fair few sides still in contention of getting in the playoffs, and the relegation battle is set to be the most tense yet.
The former footballer turned presenter, pundit and commentator is often accurate when it comes to the results, however has found it tougher with the scores.
Despite that, put all his guesses into a table and it really isn’t far off the current one. See David Prutton‘s Championship score predictions below…
HUDDERSFIELD v WEST BROM
Prutton said: “What a big game to kick off the weekend’s action on Friday night. Huddersfield start the weekend three points clear of the relegation zone and a win will surely be enough for them to stay up.
West Brom can’t afford to drop points. Brentford are lurking right on their shoulder and waiting to take advantage. This will be a close one, but I have to still back the Baggies to pull through.”
SCORE PREDICTION: Huddersfield 0-2 West Brom
CHARLTON v WIGAN
Prutton said: “Charlton were so near to a win at Birmingham on Wednesday that would have surely have seen them just about safe. Now, however, they are just two points clear and one spot above the drop zone. From that position anything can still happen.
What can we say about Wigan that hasn’t been said since Tuesday? What a wonderful win it was for them and they’ve got a real chance of giving themselves a big enough gap so that they don’t have to worry on the final day. With the form they’re in, I can’t see past them getting the win at The Valley.”
David Prutton’s Championship score predictions for this game: Charlton 1-3 Wigan
STOKE v BRENTFORD
Prutton said: “Stoke are all-but safe. They are five points clear with two games to go, but even two defeats will be unlikely to send them down. Not that Michael O’Neill will be thinking that way!
Brentford have won eight in a row, and you wouldn’t back against them making it nine and keeping the pressure right up on the top two. In fact, I won’t! Away win.”
SCORE PREDICTION: Stoke 0-2 Brentford
HULL v LUTON
Prutton said: “Is there any way back for Hull from that almighty thumping at Wigan in midweek? Grant McCann and his side looked bereft at full-time, but they will need to rally quickly because this is huge.
Both of these sides are two adrift of safety and both really need a win. I don’t think they will ship eight again, but I can’t see Hull bouncing back. Luton here for me.”
SCORE PREDICTION: Hull 0-2 Luton
MIDDLESBROUGH v CARDIFF
Prutton said: “Middlesbrough have moved to within a sniff of safety after looking in a bit of trouble not too long ago. But that’s what Neil Warnock does.
Will he do any favours for his former side? I doubt it very much! That is simply not his way. The home side will give it a good go, and I think this is a draw.”
David Prutton’s Championship score predictions for this game: Middlesbrough 2-2 Cardiff
SWANSEA v BRISTOL CITY
Prutton said: “Swansea would have been frustrated to take the lead twice against Nottingham Forest and not hold on in midweek. Only wins will do from here.
It’s a big ask for Bristol City to make the play-offs from here, but you have to keep going until it’s mathematically impossible. That being said, I think the Swans edge this one.”
SCORE PREDICTION: Swansea 1-0 Bristol City
BLACKBURN v READING
David Prutton predicts that this game will finish in favour of a 1-0 win to Blackburn, who are now unable to get place in the playoffs.
However they will be hoping to finish as high as possible, especially if it means more money.
Reading are safe for another season and are set for a mid-table finish.
FULHAM v SHEFFIELD WED
David Prutton predicts that the Cottagers will claim a 2-1 victory with the club still in contention of an automatic promotion place.
Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to get as many points as possible so that potential points deduction doesn’t drag them into the relegation zone whenever it will be handed to them.
PRESTON v BIRMINGHAM
David Prutton predicts that there will be yet another home win, this time he’s gone for 1-0 Preston, who could still get a playoff place should results go there way. They are five points behind with two games remaining, so chances are slim.
Birmingham are also five points clear of the relegation zone, but with so many surprising wins for those in trouble since the season resumed, anything can happen.
QPR v MILLWALL
David Prutton predicts that Millwall will come away with a 2-1 win, with the Lions just two points behind Cardiff in the playoffs.
Queens Park Rangers are nine points clear of the drop, therefore will be in the Championship next season.
DERBY v LEEDS
This fixture is yet again another biggy. Prutton has predicted that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will clinch promotion with a 2-1 win against the Rams, who are six points off the playoff places.
BARNSLEY v NOTT’M FOREST
David Prutton predicts that Nottingham Forest will get a 2-0 win to secure a Championship playoff place for the first time since 2011, the result would also send Barnsley down.
The Tykes win, and they give themselves a good shot at staying up should results go their way.
