David Moyes produces a hilarious response after being sent off for kicking a ball at a ball boy in Thursday night’s Europa League game.
The West Ham boss apologised after he was given marching orders for his moment of anger as West Ham’s European dreams went up in smoke in Frankfurt.
Trailing 2-1 from last week’s first leg, his side’s job was made more difficult in Germany when Aaron Cresswell became the first English player to be sent off twice in the same edition of a major European tournament competition.
Rafael Santos Borre secured Eintracht Frankfurt a 1-0 victory on the night, giving the German side a 3-1 win on aggregate and setting up a Europa League final against Rangers who beat RB Leipzig.
Moyes had a meltdown towards the end of the game, summing up a night to forget for West Ham, with captain Declan Rice describing the defeat as a ‘gutting’ loss afterwards.
The result means that West the Hammers are now unable to secure Champions League football for next season, with Moyes saying: ‘Difficult, disappointed, but extremely proud of the players, how we played with 10 men. We tried, we created chances, but we congratulate Frankfurt. We give them our best wishes.
‘I kicked a ball back at the ballboy. I apologise for that but he threw it back very softly at me.’ Moyes later joked ‘it was nicely on the volley for me’ but reiterated he was sorry for losing his temper.
Another red card for West Ham…

‘I just feel disappointment,’ he added. ‘We’ve played better teams than Frankfurt.
‘We probably lost the game in the first 30 seconds at the London Stadium and have been chasing it ever since.
‘I don’t know if I’ve enjoyed the officiating but I’ve enjoyed being in the competition.’
‘I’m really disappointed with the reaction of the bench,’ the manager said of Cresswell’s red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
‘You don’t react in that way. I hope my bench wouldn’t.’
On the sending off itself, Moyes added: ‘Aaron gave the referee a decision to make.’
‘Gutted,’ Rice said. ‘We’re gutted in there. We’ve come so far as a group. We’re not the biggest of squads to keep playing week in, week out, over 50 games a season after last year.
‘We’re proud as well to go down to 10 men and put in that shift. Many teams will go away and lose three and four. The way we still tried to defend and get forward as well, with a man less, emphasises everything about what West Ham is about.
‘We’re gutted but proud of everything. Of course they’re a good side but no way they’re better than what Sevilla or Lyon were. We’ve come so far. No one expected West Ham to be here.
‘I’m so proud of everyone. The boys went out on a high, even though we lost. In the end it’s a real gutter. They’re celebrating, I have to listen to that, it’s not nice.’
Vladimir Coufal added: ‘After 20 minutes we conceded the red card. That completely changed our game plan. It was difficult for us. We tried to do our maximum. They played like a big team. They beat us. We wish them luck for the final.’

@Matthones1: The only decent moment of the match
@Regi1700: David Moyes not so innocent after all. Disgraceful behaviour. Almost took the ball boy’s head off at point-blank range…
@DanPitchside: David Moyes apology for kicking a ball at a ball boy last night is gas 😂
@noelmcl96: Highlight of that game was Moyes volleying it into the ball boy hahaha
@SamAIex: Just David Moyes smashing the ball at a kid from two yards away. Classy bloke 👍🏻
@foreverboleyn__: I’m sorry but Moyes is a prick. I’d say this if it was my own family. There was absolutely nothing for Moyes to be upset about with that ball boy, but he kicks the ball at him when the kids back is turned like a coward. Imagine if the ball hit the kid in the back of the head.
@johndunne97: There’s no way moyes has justified kicking a ball at a ball boy cos it was on the volley🤣🤣🤣
🗣 “It was nicely on the volley for me.”
