West Ham fan hospitalised with supporters attacked by Frankfurt hooligans in pub

A West Ham fan has had to be hospitalised with supporters getting attacked by Eintracht Frankfurt hooligans in a pub on Wednesday.

Some of the German club’s ultras were reportedly masked and out to unleash violence against West Ham supporters for a second night running.

They were seen throwing glasses, bottles and bar stools at those who had travelled from London, peacefully trying to watch the Champions League semi-final on TV at Waxy’s Irish Pub.

The moment was captured on video and posted onto social media with Frankfurt hooligans running past the West Ham fans and throwing missiles at them.

Some fans were trying to run for some sort of cover or a safe place while others retaliated by picking up bar stools and chucking them at their attackers as glasses and bottles smashed around them.

West Ham supporters shouted ‘Irons’ as they fought back and shouted obscenities at them.

It is claimed that the Ultras had been touring Frankfurt looking for targets to attack in the centre, but it was made more difficult for the Germans with some bars closing. Hundreds of police were brought into the area around Frankfurt’s main rail station.

By the time police had got into Waxy’s on Taubenstrade, the perpetrators had got away.

Witnesses say 15 to 20 people, all donning face coverings and believed to be Eintracht Frankfurt ultras, jumped out and attacked the West Ham fans, made easier and planned because of the small number of them in the pub at the time.

Meanwhile, according to the Daily Mail, a man from Chelmsford suffered a suspected broken nose and left with cracked teeth, resulting in a trip to the hospital.

Frankfurt police said in a statement: “The injured guest, a 34-year-old man from Britain, was taken to hospital for medical treatment.”

After the attack, the vans quickly fled the scene and police are still unable to locate them.

Nearby at O’Reillys bar, hundreds of West Ham supporters had gathered but Frankfurt hooligans seemingly chose not to set upon them.

One German supporter described the attack on West Ham fans at Waxy’s as ‘pathetic’ and blamed the Ultras for beginning the violence.

The Metropolitan Police, which has officers working alongside German colleagues in Frankfurt, had earlier advised smaller groups of West Ham fans to ‘take taxis’ for their safety as Ultras planned their attacks.

Another three West Ham fans were targeted by hooligans in unprovoked attacks on Tuesday.

One supporter suffered a gashed lip in the ambush at the Fox and Hounds pub and two more were jumped on near to the Rhine’s main tributary after their attackers heard them speaking English. The same night, some Croatians were beat up just for being foreign.

Six arrests have so far been made for the attack on the two West Ham fans and the Croatians, which were carried out by the same gang.

However the attackers involved in the incident at the Fox and Hounds Pub remain at large, police said.

The bar manager Anthony Thornley told MailOnline the attackers stormed the venue and assaulted West Ham supporters. ‘My staff are okay but the fans were picked on out of the blue. The guys came into the bar and attacked people.’

A West Ham fan from Somerset who asked not to be named and witnessed the attack said two vans of Frankfurt vans pulled up outside the Fox and Hounds.

‘They were wearing masks and balaclavas to cover their faces. They came in and started throwing bottles and glasses around behind the bar and got away, but a couple of guys got attacked and were bleeding badly.

‘They were wearing Eintracht Frankfurt colours and were ultras. It just happened totally out of the blue. Everyone was calm in the bar as there were so few of us around on a Tuesday night when they attacked us.’

Police confirm that the fans were wearing Frankfurt colours and that they were working to hunt them down. The victim from Chelmsford was being treated at the Markus Hospital in Frankfurt.

Police initially said they expected 1,500 ticketless West Ham fans to be in Frankfurt for Thursday’s match. But this number has been revised to 3,000 and police have been tipped off to expect up to 10,000 ticketless fans to make the journey.

While some Hammers fans have been on the end of an unprovoked attacked, others haven’t held themselves by singing ‘Ten German Bombers’ as they crammed into O’Reilly’s bar.

A line of vehicles carrying armed and riot police turned up at the bar and took up position to monitor them.

Twitter users reacted after hearing that a West Ham fan has been hospitalised with supporters attacked by Frankfurt hooligans in a pub…

@wallymac0309: Smashing windows and running off, usual tactic with Euro aways

@OaktownBlade: Lmao @ the guy throwing something at the end of the clip that doesn’t make it out of the bar, turns round with a “hope nobody saw that throw”

@joshmontage656: Would be national news and outrage if it was the other way round

@louisefx96: Not surprised they’ve been walking round bars counting how many English in em and walking away – they are literally courting trouble – West Ham fans are acting fine and police aren’t bothered by us – but riot police all out in the streets and train station

@whu_freddie: West Ham held there own ⚒⚒⚒

@digger_bar: Poor bar owner. Tools the lot of them. #idiots

@BradWright1998: Seem to love attacking small groups of fans

@jamiewalker1992: Stay safe out there

@rincon5594: Germans attacking the West Ham again. As usual the cowards walking round picking off smaller groups. Didn’t like it though when two West ham fans fronted them. All in all they run from about 6 West ham. But the English will be blamed

@Bearded_Crab: I was standing inside. About 40-50 dressed in black masked up men descended on the bar and rushed the people sitting outside smashing chairs on heads. This was entirely unprovoked and the pictures you see are West Ham fans stopping the attackers getting inside the main pub.

@WHUFC_moaning: Frankfurt fans go to attack a pub, see West Ham fans within are putting up a fight, don’t stay to go toe to toe run off to find fans that are on their own. I don’t agree with fighting at the football but if your going to don’t single out blokes not looking to fight. COWARDS

@_mstephenson88: Fair play to those two old boys. 10 Germans pelting all sorts at them and just facing it up lobbing tables back at them

@robson1896: Looks like a load of West Ham there…didn’t see Frankfurt all day while it’s been rammed with West Ham around the station. Funny that👍🏽

@davestan64: Spineless twats!

@Ciaran__od: I don’t think words can express how much I hate this shit club. I hope they get relegated next season and we absolutely thrash them tomorrow

@Ethan_Whu_: Fucking mugs. What a scummy fanbase frankfurt are. Well done for sticking together and having eachovers backs lads stay safe out there❤️⚒ state of it famous ultras looking for trouble and attacking random pubs and running away.

@JackDonovann: They had no luck with us outside o’rileys though when they run away, so they find a pub with our boys who want no trouble? Sums up these lot
