David Moyes baffles fans with his thoughts on Erik ten Hag as Jamie Carragher instead blames Man Utd owners for ‘hanging him out to dry’.
Moyes, currently unattached, having last departed West Ham at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, was the first manager at Manchester United to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson, who retired in 2013.
Since then, the club has experienced a succession of managers, all failing to win them a Premier League title.
Ten Hag is the latest manager to come in to try and change that, but has also not even come close to doing so since being appointed in 2022, 3rd (75 points – 22/23), 8th (60 points – 23/24), and are currently 14th with 8 points from 7 games for the 2024/25 season, with speculation emerging on if Man Utd are close to sacking Ten Hag.
The Dutch coach has faced criticism regarding his team’s performance, and despite securing both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his initial two seasons, it’s the team’s league performances which is raising concerns, their worst ever Premier League finish last season.
Yet, Moyes has praised Ten Hag, saying he’s been “brilliant” since arriving at the club…
“I think he’s doing a brilliant job.” 🤝

Moyes said to the BBC: “I think he’s doing a brilliant job.
“I think he’s shown brilliant resilience in the situation that he’s in and I think he should be credited for how well he’s conducted himself.
“As far as I know, I don’t see him ducking any questions or any media interviews that you people [the media] put forward to him.
“I think you have to give him great credit for that, but it’s a job that is going to attract immense pressure, with people talking, so I have to say that I think he’s doing a brilliant job.”
Jamie Carragher meanwhile has expressed sympathy for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, saying to Sky Sports: “I think he’ll find it tough to come out of the next international break still as manager. Listen, if the results turn, of course, he will. The thing with Manchester United it’s not just about results, actually. I think for a long time, it’s actually been about performances.
“And a lot of time when they get results, it felt fortunate in some ways. I think last season, it felt like Scott McTominay got so many last-minute goals for them.
“You know, sooner or later, if the performances don’t improve, they can’t get sustained results. They might get a result here or there; that’s football; that’s why we love the game. Unexpected things can happen. But the start of this season hasn’t been too different in terms of performances and actually seeing the same things as last season.
“Listen, I think it will be tough for him, but I have sympathy for him because I think he’s been hung out to dry a little bit on the back of what happened in the summer with the ownership speaking to other managers.
“I feel for him, no manager or anyone in employment would want his bosses speaking publically to lots of different people in the game. It’s going to be tough for him to see out the season.”
🗣️ “It’ll be tough for him, I feel for him”

Here’s how fans reacted as David Moyes baffles fans with his thoughts on Ten Hag while Jamie Carragher blames Man Utd owners…
ON MOYES:
@Fergatron9: This says more about Moyes than it does Ten Hag. I mean he’s spent hundreds and hundreds of millions, isn’t in the champions league, and sits 14th in the table. Awesome job.
@dirtybarry27: He’s just relieved not to be their worse manager anymore
@stardorman: Hahaha!! They’re 14th. What is this headcase talking about 🙈
@CalvLyfeson: He must be incredibly relieved that so many have shit the bed in his wake. Like fuck is he doing a brilliant job. He’s doing a great job at making Moyesie look competent more like.
@MesutFarkeson: Hahahaha ffs. Top tier trolling well in.
@khushidave_: this is why he’s jobless
@MattPrice6: I was in the camp for Moyes to replace O’Neill should Wolves decide to sack him. This has changed my mind though the guy is deluded
@ArchieeeeB: We all agree 😂😂😂😂
@NK_ESQ: Completely agree David. He should get a new 5 year contract.
@JoshWal93: Yeah brilliant job mate aye, 14th in the league and the worst start to a premier league in history. Have a day off David.
@PhilipM17141333: He prob thought he done a brilliant job 2
ON CARRAGHER:
@Oldtraffordutds: We don’t care man. Carragher and his fellow pundits lash him every matchday, what’s with the sympathy now? Sack him and give him a job at Liverpool then.
@smiler_wilts: Not really Jamie, he’s been given over two years
@Hayesy1986: Biggest hypocrite in the pundit game this guy @Carra23
@amenda09: They all lash him all.the time and wanted him out even the journalists and sport pundits are always on his case and not the players . He will be gone and the players will stay and do the same silly tantrum they throw at all the manager they got rid of
@united_twh: Well how has he been hung out to dry? He got his signings? He got back room staff? I’m ok if he stays and has the chance to be honest but I don’t see how he’s been hung out to dry.
@bootsy118: ‘Feel sorry for him?’ Sky and Carragher have been on a mission to get him sacked!
@JustJamieB90: If they’d given David Moyes as long as they’ve given some of these nuffie managers they’d be in a lot better of a position right now. Especially since Fergie hand picked him. No sympathy, they brought this on themselves
@UTDPatron: You literally hounded him from the day he walked into the job, interrogated him 3 games into his career and now you have sympathy for him?
@ChrisRM22: You and Neville went and had a CRISIS interview with him 2 games into his tenure, stfu lmao
The audacity to come out and say this after you piled on the pressure even more by doing this, no other manager has had this treatment. https://t.co/KyhfTtXZWE pic.twitter.com/UrkYM9NWWY
