Darlington sign prolific goalscorer with the 19 year old tipped for big things

Darlington sign prolific goalscorer Jack Maskell with the 19 year old tipped for big things and an exciting future ahead of him.

The Quakers have signed the young striker from Dunston for an undisclosed fee and on a two year deal after impressing in the Northern Premier League East Division.

But he expressed a desire to play at a higher level after catching the attention of such clubs, with Darlington winning the race.

It comes in the week that that around £190,000 was raised by Darlington fans in summer’s Boost the Budget, allowing the club to bring in key signings after a season where they finished just above the National League North drop zone, and could’ve been worse if it hadn’t been for manager Steve Watson turning the club’s form around.

Jack Maskell Becomes Second Summer Signing

Darlington FC are delighted to announce the signing of striker, Jack Maskell, from Dunston UTS FC for an undisclosed fee.

Jack has joined the club on a two year deal.

The 19-year-old forward had an impressive season in the Northern Premier League – East Division, netting 26 goals in 36 league and playoff appearances, including a hat-trick in the play-off final versus Stockton Town.

His outstanding performances have caught the attention of numerous clubs in the region, but we are delighted that Jack has chosen Darlington FC as the next step in his promising career.

Our manager, Steve Watson, is equally excited about the new addition to the squad. He said, “We are delighted to welcome Jack to Darlington, it’s a great testament to everyone who helped get this deal done and needless to say that this is a signing that without the fans generosity and faith in us, would never have been possible.

“Jack is a very exciting young striker who scores all kinds of goals, he is a big aerial threat and has a work ethic that is second to none. Myself and Terry along with the current squad are looking forward to helping him progress to the next stage of his career. This career could go anywhere! Welcome Jack.”

Jack joined Dunston UTS last summer from Northern League Second Division side Horden CW, where he had picked up the league Young Player of the Season award during the 22/23 campaign.

Jack Maskell’s Career Highlights:

The transfer is subject to National League & FA approval.

Jack Maskell has completed a transfer to National League North side Darlington FC for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old forward joined Dunston last summer after making the move from Northern League Division Two side, Horden CW. Stepping up two leagues, Maskell continued to impress as he registered 26 goals and nine assists in 38 games for the club.

Maskell cleaned up at the end-of-season presentation night as he claimed the Players’ Player of the Season, Committee’s Player of the Season, Supporter’s Player of the Season, Top Goal Scorer, and Goal of the Season awards.

We are incredibly grateful for the contributions that Jack made last season and we are proud to have played a part in what will be a very successful career.

“Jack has been exceptional for Dunston UTS. I have spoken to him at length for a number of weeks and he has expressed his desire to play at a higher level and we fully support him with this.” Dunston Manager Jon McDonald said.

“As a club, we’ve played our part in developing him and preparing him for the next stage of his career. He’s in good hands with Steve and Terry and we wish him every success moving forward.

“Our full focus is now on preparing Dunston for the new season.” McDonald added.

Club Co-Chairmen, Billy Irwin and Tony Cleugh, have also issued a joint-statement on the departure of Jack Maskell:

“We both would like to stress to our supporters that the club has tried everything in its power to keep Jack for next season and beyond but unfortunately an offer has been made from another club.

“We have always promised Jack if a fair offer came in from a club higher up the pyramid we would not stand in his way and allow him to talk to them. Jack has always stressed that he wants to play at the highest level possible and, as a club, we are sorry to see him go.

“We want to wish Jack all the best at Darlington FC and thank you for everything last season.”

Good luck, Jack!
