Commentator goes viral with epic reaction to AFC Wimbledon beating MK Dons in 94th minute

A commentator goes viral with his epic reaction to AFC Wimbledon beating MK Dons in the 94th minute in the early League Two clash on Saturday.

Ronan Curtis netted a remarkable late winner to secure a 1-0 victory for AFC Wimbledon in front of a packed out Plough Lane to boost their hopes of getting into the playoffs.

Curtis slotted the ball past Kelly with seconds remaining, and we have to say, the scenes you’re about to see is exactly why we love football…

AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson said post-match: “I can’t put it into words. It’s the highs and lows of football. Today is a reminder of why we love it, why we do it. Personally that’s the best feeling I’ve had in the game. It’s not about me today, it’s about Wimbledon. This football club has waited a long time for that moment. We were magnificent.

“The performance was outstanding on the pitch, in the stands. Behind the scenes, how hard everyone has worked knowing we had a big game – to win it like that, you couldn’t write it or make it up.

“We’ve got Trevor Williams and Robin Bedford who have been here since the start, they’re part of what we do. Today’s for our supporters.

“He [Ronan Curtis] was desperate to start and he probably had the hump with me that he didn’t. We timed it well with him. I felt it was a game for impact from him. We know the quality he’s got. When a chance like that pops up, there’s no one you’d rather have on it. I’m buzzing for him and all the players. They were outstanding and they left it all out there. That’s the lads on the pitch, the lads on the bench and the lads in the stands who weren’t involved.”

On a shift in tactics: “I felt like we needed to shake things up a bit. We had a clear week of training which really helped us. It was important that we approached this game well and nullified their threats. We kept something in the bag for us. There was an extra impetus behind this game that cannot be ignored – we drilled it into the lads from Monday morning onwards. It’s been a difficult couple of weeks but they haven’t dropped their heads.

“I’m a bit emotional to be honest, it’ll take a while to set in but that’s what football does to you.”

MK Dons’ Mike Williamson said, per MK Citizen: “Dusting ourselves down and removing the emotion, we’ve got to be humble in defeat/ We weren’t good or convincing enough on the day to convincingly feel as though we should have won the game. We have to make sure we learn from it and improve.

“We couldn’t build momentum, but we had to be better in the final third. We didn’t threaten the goal enough, didn’t have enough touches in the box. The boys wanted to win so badly they were forcing things and looking for things that weren’t there. We have to build a patience into our game, know when the openings are there, and capitalise on it.

“I’m gutted for the boys, gutted for the fans. I won’t be critical of the players, but in possession we weren’t as good as we should have been, we didn’t reach our levels. We had to stand up to a lot of balls into the box, crosses and throw-ins, we had to put our bodies on the line and we did that.

@PL13Les: Every now and again. The game gives you something back doesn’t it?! That moment was it for all Wimbledon fans. Bravo lads!!!!

@thepointofpgh: The ball boy is going to tell this story for a month straight. Also, odds that Curtis resigns for next year with both sides understanding he’ll be sold if good offer comes in? He can build value and game time.

@CarpeNoctem_Now: This has to be one of the most deliciously satisfying 3 points ever! #AFCW

@OhLankyLanky: That result was in the wider interests of football.

@GrubHooligan: We deserved that win, and it’s the best I’ve felt as a Wimbledon fan since Pigott scored that goal super late in extra time to save us from relegation in 2021.
