Chelsea v Tottenham stopped as Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel clash on touchline

Chelsea v Tottenham stopped as managers Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel clash on the touchline in rather heated scenes at Stamford Bridge.

It came on the 68th minute with controversy stemming from a tackle by Bentancur on Havertz about 90 seconds earlier. Chelsea had saw Koulibaly brilliantly volley in for the opener 19 minutes in.

It was a tackle from behind that wasn’t given and play developed into Hojbjerg finding space to ping a low drive that nestled in the corner.

Tuchel and Conte went nose-to-nose on the touchline and the Chelsea boss was continuing to point angrily at the Chelsea bench.

Sky Sports’ Declan Olley at Stamford Bridge: “Huge drama below here as the two benches clash amid the equaliser from Spurs.

“Dier dragging away Conte from the thick of it!”

Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher: “Just having to tell the Chelsea fans in front of me that I’m not the referee… I’m getting dog’s abuse here! It’s kicking off on the bench and it’s kicking off on the pitch.”

Thomas Tuchel was furious as he felt there was a foul on Kai Havertz in the build-up to the goal. Mind you, it was some time before Hojbjerg placed his shot into the net.

Sky Sports’ Declan Olley at Stamford Bridge: “What a time for a drinks break with both benches squaring up just seconds before.

“We’re in for a heated last 20 minutes here.”

Alex Howell (BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge): “That all kicked off on the bench because Antonio Conte celebrated in front of Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was unhappy because Bentancur took down Havertz on a counter-attack and didn’t get the ball. The drama is still rumbling on a few minutes after the goal.”

Both Tuchel and Conte was booked, the goal stood.

on the 75th minute, James did sensationally well down the right and exploded past Son. The ball was absolutely perfect for Havertz from five yards out but somehow he steered the ball wide of the post.

Then not long after, Chelsea got themselves in front, seeing Tuchel leg it down the touchline Jose Mourinho style.

Kulusevski got caught in possession and Chelsea switch the play so quickly. Sterling fed James who was in acres of space and he passed a cool finish past Lloris. Sloppy from Spurs.

Chelsea got their lead back. Spurs behind at the Bridge yet again.

Sky Sports’ Declan Olley at Stamford Bridge: “Conte is fuming at that James goal. He turns around to the bench and gestures an angry thinking motion. His team have let the home side back in.

“Tuchel’s Mourinho-esque touchline celebration wouldn’t have helped Conte’s mood either.”

Sky Sports’ Martin Tyler: “When you run outside of your technical area, you should get a yellow card. He’s already had one. But I think the officials are understanding of the very high temperature of the match let alone the weather.”

Then in the sixth minute of stoppage time, Tottenham drew level again. Perisic’s corner did the business and Kane wanted it more than anyone else. He flicked a fantastic header into the bottom corner, squeezing between James and Koulibaly.

Sky Sports’ Declan Olley at Stamford Bridge: “Incredible scenes on the Spurs bench below as Conte jumps up in delight at Kane’s headed goal, runs down the tunnel and then re-emerges.

“What drama here. It’s silent at Stamford Bridge.”

Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher: “What a brilliant game we’ve had – we really have. How does it find its way in? Spurs haven’t deserved it but who cares? It’s right on the money. It’s a free header. James just gets a nick on it and there’s nothing he can really do.”

The full time whistle blew and it kicked off again between the managers!

The managers go to shake hands and there are words exchanged. And a grapple ensues. Both benches wade in.

Anthony Taylor was straight over to give both managers red cards. A Premier League classic.

John Murray (Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live): If there wasn’t bad blood between them before this will start a whole history of bad blood between the managers. A highly-charged affair. Chelsea led twice but just couldn’t get the job done and both teams are walking away with a draw.

Alex Howell (BBC Sport at Stamford Bridge): It looked like Spurs had missed their chance to get something from the game and their late equaliser will feel like a win. This game has been non-stop for the full 96 minutes. Tuchel and Conte clash again at full-time and both are shown a red card. Unbelievable!

Tuchel can be seen during the handshake tussle clearly saying to Conte… “Look me in the eye”.

POST-MATCH CHAT

Spurs striker Harry Kane to Sky Sports: “It was a tough game, playing against a really good side. We knew it was going to be a really tough battle. First half we weren’t good enough with or without the ball but second half I thought we came out and pressed well, got the goal. It was disappointing the way we conceded the second.

“But we carried on fighting and pressing and got one at the end there. I’m happy with the way we fought back especially second half and really nice feeling to get that one at the end.

“I flicked it on and I couldn’t really see where the ball went and then I saw the net rustling and it was right in front of our away fans. Especially after that chance I had earlier in the second half, it was nice to see that one go in.

“It was a really important game for us to show where we are as a team. It’s a marathon not a sprint and we’ve got a long way to go with a World Cup in between but it was important especially after losing five or six times to them in cup or league, away from home at Stamford Bridge hasn’t been our best place over the years so to come away with a point especially at the end was a good feeling.

“It’s disappointing to see the red cards, I didn’t see what happened. Obviously it was an emotional game, London derby, the passion from both sides, both teams wanted to win. That’s sometimes what happens in these games.”

Thomas Tuchel to Sky Sports, beginning with the incident that led to both he and Antonio Conte being shown red cards at full-time: “I thought when we shake hands you looked in each other eyes, he he had a different opinion. It was not necessary but a lot of things were not necessary.”

Asked about when they were both booked earlier, he just said: “There was no problem.”

Thomas Tuchel felt there was a clear foul on Kai Havertz and that Richarlison was offside for the first equaliser.

And he mentioned the hair pull on Marc Cucurella from the corner before the one from which Spurs scored their second equaliser.

“We were absolutely brilliant,” he added to Sky Sports. “Only one side deserved to win and that was us. Both their goals cannot stand.

“There was a clear foul on Kai Havertz and the situation goes on and on. Richarlison was offside and when can you pull hair on a football field?

“We dominated for 90 minutes. We were sharp, we were hungry, it was a top performance. I’m sorry for all my players that we didn’t get the result we deserved.”

Thomas Tuchel tried to play down his clashes with Antonio Conte, telling Sky Sports: “It’s emotional, football. We don’t need to heat it up. You have emotional coaches on the touchline and that’s it.

“If we meet [later], we meet, If not, then not. Come on guys, it’s between two competitors and nothing bad happened.”

On his celebration for Chelsea’s second goal: “In the middle of it I thought I should not do this but sometimes a match gets you totally, this match sucked me in. It was a brilliant effort after an undeserved equaliser. It was pure joy, and it may offend the opposition but they did the same when they equalised.”

Talking to Sky Sports, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte refused three times to talk about his clashes with Thomas Tuchel. He said: “My opinion is it’s better to talk about the game. It was a difficult game for both teams and we try in every game to be competitive.

“Chelsea showed they are a really good team. Compared to last season we did better, but if we want to create problems for Chelsea [in the table] we have to be better.

“I don’t want to comment on the [Tuchel] situation, this is not the most important thing. If there’s a problem, it’s between me and him.

“It’s normal to come here and to suffer but at the same time we created chances to stay in the game.”

Conte added that he didn’t see Christian Romero’s hair pull on Marc Cucurella.

Twitter reacted in the best way with Chelsea v Tottenham stopped as Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel clash on the touchline…

@NineNineCraig: Class. Need more of this 😂

@Samzii_: Football is so much better when people hate each other ffs

@unknownsome86: Cucurella hair gets pulled, that’s a clear foul. Poor VAR decision. Also Havertz fouled before the first Tottenham goal. It was our game, we’re robbed.

@LukeReddy: A thumb war always had the potential to boil over if unsupervised.

@_Zeets: This Tuchel and Conte beef is what the game needed
