Chelsea fans hospitalised after being ‘chased and stabbed’ in Naples by ‘group of ultras’

Some Chelsea fans were hospitalised after being ‘chased and stabbed’ in Naples by a ‘group of ultras’ the night before the game against Napoli.

@Chelsadz2 tweeted: “Fuck me man that’s was so fucked, literally just going to another pub n 25 napoli ultra w knifes chasing us n stabbed one of my boys, everyone saying don’t go looking got trouble, we was literally walking to another pub and the was all there, so fucked, glad no one was seriously injured man.”

Asked if they were ok, @Chelsadz2 replied: “Yeh mate, all good. thankfully out of hospital just of course naturally shaken up.”

@Chelsadz2 posted other tweets: “nah man wtaf is happening out here, fucking footy game ffs. yeh man he is cool, in hospital now luckily he should be okay. A knife was pulled against myself and 5 Chelsea fans In Naples for speaking English in an Irish pub, please stay safe chelsea fans!! AVOID IRISH BARS! @CFCDaily”

CLUB STATEMENT:

The club is aware of an incident that took place on Tuesday evening in Naples.

Two fans are being treated in hospital, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The club would like to remind all supporters to exercise extreme caution whilst in the city and take note of the advice shared ahead of this fixture.

23 year old Adam, was in Naples for the first time with his friend Marcus, said to the Telegraph: “A group of seven of us who had just had pizza in a restaurant went to the Kitebeer pub and had two drinks. None of us were in Chelsea colours, nothing blue, or singing any songs.

“We decided to go to another pub where a few of our other friends were about a 10-minute walk away. Everything was good-natured, we weren’t being loud or talking about Chelsea.

“Unfortunately, we turned down a side street on the way to the pub and there was a group of about 30 ultras. They weren’t wearing Napoli shirts and about half of them had their faces covered. Straight away they started shouting ‘where are you from?’ and everyone knew it was dangerous.

“The guys at the front started running and, unfortunately, they grabbed Marcus by his shoulder and started talking to him. He didn’t think anything was happening and then all of a sudden he’d been stabbed in the leg. It was with a screwdriver, rather than a knife, but it obviously caused him a lot of pain. Another one of our mates had his coat sliced. It was terrifying and you start to think the worst, that you’re all going to end up getting stabbed.

“We were probably running for about a mile and a half because some of them started chasing us and, fortunately, Marcus was able to run with his injury. We luckily ran into some police officers who were patrolling the corner of a street.

“The police took all of our information and called Marcus an ambulance, which came after about five minutes. I’m staying in the same hotel as Marcus, so I stayed at the hospital with him and we got out at about 4am.”

Chelsea spoke with Adam and Marcus, who had been due to go to a police station on Wednesday to give a full account of what happened. The pair were unsure whether or not they would still go to the game.

“We’re thinking about whether or not to go,” said Adam. “We’ve both been shaken up by what happened and now we just don’t know how safe it will be.

“I’ve travelled with Chelsea in Europe before and never had anything like this, home or away, so we’ll see how we feel. We were due to stay in Naples until Saturday, but we’ll probably just get a train up to Rome tomorrow and spend the rest of our time there. This is our first time in Naples and it will probably be my last. It will make me think twice about which cities I go to for games in future.”

Here’s how fans reacted on Chelsea fans hospitalised after being ‘chased and stabbed’ in Naples by a ‘group of ultras’…

@cfctom02: One of my best mates stabbed over a game of football, fucking rat cunts

@dylscfc: Just seen someone has been stabbed out in Naples already… jesus fuck stay safe everyone out there

@sashcfc: I hope all Chelsea fans out in Naples stay safe💙

@henry_parish18: Napoli fans at it again, by far the worst place I have ever been for football, one scary place that, horrible

@ChelsGraceO: Unfortunately something that happens to all English clubs when they visit Naples. Stick to small groups and be aware of your surroundings, it’s not the place you wanna be caught up in

@ChrisCFC1990: Awful to see our own football club having to tweet and ensure Chelsea fans safety after what’s happened. For every single Chelsea who is out in Naples, first and foremost stay safe and get home safe. Thoughts are with the people in hospital right now. Hope they are ok 🙏🏼💙.

@timstillman_: Once again, it is not good enough that UEFA consistently turns a blind eye to this. This is not a surprise. Napoli is a very dangerous away trip, the police are savage too and absolutely nothing is done. Ever.

@AdamP1242: Mental how football fans abroad in the Champions League still get stabbed in 2026 btw. Imagine spending your hard earned money to support your team in Europe just for 25 blokes to chase you down the alleyway at night

@sirichkirby: Spot on Adam. I’m out here and in Naples you just have to have eyes in the back of your head and accept these things happen “cos it’s their culture”. It’s a tourists city not a football fans city. Just the way it is

@RobDonalds38035: It’s shocking. They should ban all European home legs for these shitty fans. Happens all the time. Only by sheer luck them two are not coming back in a body bag. 😞

@ethan15q: Don’t go out in Naples lads. Stay safe 👌🏼💙

@TheDazView: The fact people can’t even travel to watch football without feeling in danger is actually crazy…… hopefully everyone stays safe 💙

@sirichkirby: Just a quick shout out to everyone that is here and to anyone arriving in Naples. Be careful people. Be vigilant and stay safe.

@wilber7_lfc: You’ve got Infantino making snarky jokes about British football fans travelling but there’s never a comment on these rough arse places across Europe where you can’t wear your clubs colours for fear of being stabbed or twatted by the local plod, it’s a fucking joke

@CFCJnR: And I thought London was bad… Stay safe 🙏

@sirichkirby: I think the club can’t do much more really but the fact this is common practice in this city is utterly incomprehensible still. What say you @sscnapoli or @UEFA? Is this behaviour okay cos it’s a “cultural thing”?

@Jackalbion96: UEFA will do nothing, absolutely no need for these incidents to be happening in Italy Again. Hope everyone involved is ok.

@FootballByVigi: Mate I’m here in Naples as well. Just don’t interact with anybody. Wear the Chelsea emblems only at the stadium. Not worth risking your life for this game. Be safe 💙

@OllieB013tt4: Hope you’re all good and that your recovery is swift mate, what a horrible place

@JamieHillsYT: Stay Safe Fellow Blues 💙 Speedy recovery to those affected 🙏 horrible world we live in where fans cant even go watch there team play football without feeling safe.
