Cardiff fans slam Connor Wickham using ‘laughing gas balloons’ following defeat to Swansea

Cardiff City fans have took to slam Connor Wickham for filming himself using ‘laughing gas balloons’ following defeat to rivals Swansea City.

A video has surfaced, recorded by the Bluebirds player and published via his Instagram story, however it has since been deleted.

It’s thought that he was out celebrating his birthday, turning 30 years old on the 31st of March. But nonetheless, the footballer, who came on in the 61st minute of Saturday’s South Wales Derby, has angered many.

It is legal to possess and use the gas, however it is illegal to supply according to current legislation and the government is planning to crack down on legal highs, also known as “hippy crack” or “laughing gas” and ban them completely as part of a new set of legislation that aims to demonstrate a more aggressive stance against crime.

The temporary high of nitrous oxide can cause hallucinations, sound distortions, and even fits of giggles.

However, it can also cause serious side effects such as headaches or unconsciousness.

PM Rishi Sunak’s plan for eradicating laughing gas is part of a package called ‘community justice.

The ban on nitrous dioxide is intended to protect youth and stop littering canisters at places where young people congregate.

Writing in the Mail, Mr Sunak said: ‘We’re going to take a zero-tolerance approach.

‘We’re going to put an end to groups of young people using nitrous oxide, so-called laughing gas, by banning it.

‘And we’re going to expand drug testing on arrest, to include drugs such as ecstasy and cannabis, as well as extending the range of situations that can trigger a drugs test in the first place.’

Swansea City made history at the Cardiff City Stadium with Ben Cabango’s goal in the 99th minute securing a remarkable 3-2 victory.

Joel Piroe drove Swansea ahead after just three minutes on the clock, before Liam Cullen headed home with the second on 33 minutes.

Jaden Philipogene got one back, smashing the ball home despite a touch from Swansea goalkeeper Fisher and a slight deflection off Cabango.

Sory Kaba’s late header looked to have secured a draw, but Cabango, a Cardiff-born player, produced a dramatic late winner the game and left the Bluebirds in deep relegation trouble.

In the ninth minute of added time – after five minutes had been shown on the fourth official’s board – Fulton saw his free-kick hit the wall, he unleashed another effort, only for it to strike the base of the post.

The rebound hit Joel Latibeaudiere and then went to Cabango – previously rejected by Cardiff as a youngster – to score a memorable winner.

Cardiff manager Sabri Lamouchi:

“When you start the game this way and when you finish the game this way, you can be upset, disappointed, complain, maybe, because maybe we paid the price for some mistakes in the beginning, one or two goals, easy.

“We can’t concede this foul. We can’t concede this goal in the last minute. So no complaints. Just a cruel scenario.

“Five goals in a derby is a lot of goals. Unfortunately it was not in our favour. We came back into the game with a fantastic goal from Jaden [Philogene] before the break.

“It was a chance to come back into the game with a different mentality and a different quality. We pressed them a little bit better, with no mistake at the beginning in the second.

“[Sory] Kaba scored another goal and I was thinking it was an important goal, but we finished as you know. Over 95 minutes, we need to keep the ball, put the ball away, the small details.”

Swansea head coach Russell Martin:

“I thought we played really well, coming away from home, we had the best moments. If we don’t concede a really poor goal just after scoring I think it’s a very different game.

“To show the courage and character they did after it went to 2-2 with the atmosphere how it was, I’m amazingly grateful to the players, and the supporters.

“I’d rather not have that every week for your heart rate, but the emotion at the end was incredible. I’m so proud of the players.

“The way we’re asking them to play, the situation we’ve been in, how they’ve come through it is just amazing. I don’t think that can ever be understated.”

As mentioned, Cardiff fans took to slam Connor Wickham for using ‘laughing gas balloons’ following defeat to Swansea, this is how users on Twitter reacted…
