Our live stream ahead of Sundays Premier League match, Brighton vs Sheffield United is now up and running, kicking off at 12.00 GMT
You can keep an eye on the commentary as it happens below, but first, we take a preview into the fixture, lineups, predictions and much more…
Brighton head into the contest at the Amex Stadium sitting just two points above the relegation zone after four matches without a win. They drew 1-1 with Fulham midweek but will feel hard done by not to come away with the three points having had the better chances.
Although Brighton currently sit outside of the drop zone in the Premier League table table, Graham Potter will acknowledge that he also requires an improved set of results to remain in the Seagulls hotseat.
Potter has helped attracted some notable names to the Amex Stadium, but Brighton remain with just two wins from their 13 top-flight fixtures this season.
Meanwhile, Sheffield United are still looking for their first Premier League victory of the season. There have been times this season when Sheffield United have performed with the same intensity which kept them in contention for the top six throughout the 2019-20 campaign.
However, losing 12 times in 13 games, the latest setback coming against Manchester United on Thursday night, means that only results will keep Chris Wilder in a job at Bramall Lane.
While there were positives to take from the performance during the latest 3-2 reverse, the defeat has left the Blades nine points adrift of safety with an ever-worsening goal difference.
Brighton and Sheffield United last met in February, drawing 1-1 at Bramal Lane…
PRESS CONFERENCE:
Graham Potter
Team news
Potter said Lamptey will be assessed right up until the end to see if he can make the game.
Other than that it is a full squad to choose from.
Five sub decision
Potter said it is good there are two extra players on the bench now.
But he said he is just getting on with it.
Goalkeeping situation
Potter said Mat Ryan has to train hard, which he does every day.
He has been a brilliant professional and he has the utmost respect for him.
Potter said Sanchez has huge potential and it is their job to achieve that.
Last game for Ryan?
“I can’t see into the future. I wouldn’t say it is extreme as that, no,” he said.
On Sanchez
Potter said imagined he is looking forward to playing in front of home fans.
“He will have our support that is for sure,” he said.
Ryan to leave?
Potter said you need to be respectful to him and didn’t want to comment on him potentially being sold.
“It is down to Matty and the club really,” he said.
On Sheffield United and an elusive home win
“The sooner it comes the better,” he said.
Potter said every game is a massive one and this is no different.
Second half vs Fulham
Potter said the first-half was a scrappy one against Fulham.
But he said he was almost as happy with the first as the second 45.
Overall he was “delighted” with the performance.
Chris Wilder
Potter said he has a huge amount of respect for the Blades boss and thinks they can turn it around.
He added they will be a tough test.
What has Sanchez done to impress?
Potter said he is confident, ambitious, he can make big saves, aerially he is strong and he has the attributes to be a top keeper.
But he lacks experience, he added.
On Leandro Trossard
Potter said he has been working hard to get back in condition after his injury.
He said he was happy with how he played against Fulham.
More on Wilder
“They’re always competitive and never give up.
“Chris is someone I know well and he has done a fantastic job. I have great respect for what they’ve done, it’s a great footballing story.”
More on Trossard
“It was good to have him back in the side, he’s been working hard and there’s more to come from him.
“I thought he did well in the game and he’ll get stronger from that.”
Chris Wilder
On Berge and McBurnie injuries
I think both players will be doubtful based on the assessment this morning. Hopefully they can play Sunday. I think Oli has a better chance than Sander Sunday but with hamstrings you can’t be sure of a quick turnaround.
Brighton a must-win?
We have to go into every game and try to win. You saw that last night, unfortunately we didn’t but it was more of a Sheffield United performance, more of what I was looking for.
But one point from 13 games is not a great return and the gap can’t grow. We’ve got to take some points out of the Christmas period and take a healthy points total to have a chance to stay in the division.
Five subs rejection but concussion subs accepted
I’m one of ten football managers that made that decision. I’ve talked enough about that situation, that’s passed me by to be honest.
Performance against Man Utd
It’s still difficult to accept but in a season those performances sometimes do crop up. I’m not saying that over the 160 games or whatever that I’ve been here every performance has been a full-tilt performance that I would have wanted to see or the supporters would have wanted to watch.
There was one at Hull, one at Walsall…I don’t like them and you have to remind the players, which I would have done, and looked for a big reaction for themselves.
They realised sat in the changing room at Southampton that wasn’t good enough for what we’ve set the bar at and what the supporters want to see and what I want to see.
It was better last night, disappointed with the manner of the goals. Manchester United and neutrals will say it’s a fabulous run and a brilliant ball for the third goal but there’s bits and pieces we need to do to make it more difficult for the opposition.
They’ve done that to better teams than us and unfortunately we were on the receiving end of it.
I did want to see that type of performance and games like Southampton can’t happen too many times between now and the end of the season.
If we get more performances like last night I believe we’ll pick up points and start moving forwards.
Encouraged by better performance?
They’re not far off a win, all season that’s been the case, but we’ve not got above that line. The Premier League is ridiculously tight at times. Last season we came out the right side of a lot of tight games and got a healthy points total but this season we haven’t.
They’re tight games a lot of them this season and I would think a majority of opponents we’ve played would say we should be on more points than we are, statistically, but stats don’t win games. Sticking the ball in the net is the statistic I’m interested in.
Would Wilder ever quit the job?
I’d only do that if I thought it was the right thing for Sheffield United Football Club. That’s the only time I would do that.
The club means too much to me for it to be about me, it’s about what’s best for the football club.
I’m working away. As you saw last night there’s still plenty of spirit in this group. If you make mistakes and don’t take opportunities you get punished.
But only if it’s best for the football club. That’s what I feel.
Was the recent show of support from club board important?
No. It’s the decision of the owner what he wants to do. There’s always a story at every football club.
I talk with the owner and we’re not at all happy with the results of course. He’s not, I’m not, the players aren’t.
I appreciate the support, I’m not being disrespectful, but my work and my approach doesn’t change here and that will always be the same.
Club in good health?
We need to catch up on a lot of fronts. The Prince knows that and I’ve expressed my views on that, from academy to infrastructure to facilities. We’ve talked about how many times we’ve been in the top flight over the last 25, 50 years.
Every club has a story and only the people inside the club know the story.
There’s been a manager who’s gone this week (Bilic) and there will be a lot of talk about my position. A lot of that will be from people who don’t know what they’re talking about.
The prince does know that story. We’ve talked about the need to bring the ready-made player into the football club.
There will be a view on it and there will be from the owners.
We’re trying to bridge the gap and it is a huge gap. It won’t happen overnight and sometimes you have to take a bloody nose and take one on the chin.
You always have to look at a short, medium and long term view and I’m sure the owners have that view.
Crucial games coming up
You can’t hide away. I don’t like putting the TV on and seeing what’s in front of you. It’s a 9 point gap now.
It wasn’t one-way traffic against Man United last night and the players needed a performance for themselves because of what happened at the weekend. The challenge is to take that on now and add a big performance to try and get a big result.
Aaron Ramsdale accepting criticism
We talk to him and all the players. He’s going through a tough period of his career but he’s got to smile and battle his way through it.
We signed him because we know what he’s about. There’s instant judgement in this world about how you are and you have to take the good with the bad. He has to do that, he’s a good goalkeeper.
We’ve signed him for 3 years, not 13 games, we’re not ripping his contract up. He cares about this football club and he’s disappointed. He wants to produce flawless performances and any slight mistakes gets punished at this level – not just with Aaron but everybody.
He’ll be getting a bit at the moment as we all are and he just needs to take it on the chin.
Did you have a drink with OGS after touchline clash?
Yep, everyone gets invited in. I invited Ole and Mickey Phelan and everyone in. I’ve a huge amount of respect for that football club and that manager. He understands the intense pressure of managing Manchester United.
He’s passionate about his football club, I’m passionate about mine. We had a shake of the hands afterwards and I invited him into my office after and we had a beer.
[On the touchline] He said something and got something back from me. It’s only you (the press) that go on about that sort of thing. Anyone who’s played or managed in the game knows that stuff happens all the time, it’s 24/7.
Quick fixture turnaround
The fixture list has always been the same over Christmas, it’s always been the same for the teams playing in Europe.
If they want to challenge on four fronts they have the ability to do that. We’re still challenging on two…I think we’re still in the FA Cup, we’ve not been knocked out of that one have we? [laughs]
I don’t really want to get into all that nonsense again. It’s a quick turnaround and we have to look at the players, a lot of energy went into last night’s game. We’ve lost Sander Berge which is a big miss for us and it’s doubtful he’ll be back for the weekend.
Losing him last night was a big blow in the game but the fixtures come thick and fast and it’s a big period for all of us.
Will you be able to enjoy Christmas?
No mate. No.
I don’t think anyone will with what’s happening in this world and at this football club.
Some people will say that’s a negative view but I think it’s just honest. I imagine a few at the top of the table will enjoy it more than me but we want to win and we want to get results.
I’m going to be that manager and drive it on.
I have to switch it on and go to the players and be positive because I think if I go to the players and be negative we don’t get that performance we got last night.
Hopefully I’ll have something to smile about by the end of the Christmas period.
Allardyce in at West Brom – bad news for Blades?
We’ve just got to take care of ourselves. I can’t be interested in what West Brom do.
I know Sam, I’ve spoken to him through this period, and he’s been a great help to me throughout my career.
Every club has a story so obviously West Brom have made a decision and his track record is second to none, but from my point of view Sheffield United is my full focus. I’ve got a great amount of respect for Sam Allardyce but I’ve got to affect what I can affect.

THATSAGOAL TIP:
Under 2.5 Goals – 4/6 with FanTeam
Sheffield United’s nightmare season looked like it may be taking a turn for the better when they took the lead against Manchester United thanks to a gift from former Blade, Dean Henderson. Sadly for Chris Wilder, Sheffield United came away empty-handed and remain in serious danger.
Sheffield United need to keep things tight at the back and revert to the defence-first approach that served them so well last season. Whether they manage to take anything from their trip to the South coast or not, a low scoring is the most likely outcome here.
