Bradford City fan AJ speaks on his ‘famous’ chicken dance, finger point and wink going viral across social media earlier this month.
Following the Bantams’ 1-0 win against Doncaster, a video emerged of his dance, facing the away end, and has since gone on to get millions of views.
He also gave an interview with BBC Sport West Yorkshire, speaking of his surprise at suddenly becoming famous, recognised wherever he goes.
@JamieRaynor: Iβm mindful that I have to maintain professional when posting on here, but I canβt lie Iβve watched this at least 50 times and I still absolutely love it. The Only Fools & Horses theme in the background is gold standard πππ
@AJ__BCAFC: Cheers Jamie! Still can’t believe how much this has been shared across social media π
@JamieRaynor: Itβs a masterpiece my friend, you should be immensely proud π€£
@AJ__BCAFC: Let’s just say it’s been an interesting few days… π
Imagine conceding a late goal and the fans next to you start doing the chicken danceπππ

Interviewer Jamie Raynor: “This week’s guest is someone who, well if you follow Bradford City I’m sure you’ll have seen his face. We have AJ with us, a regular caller to BBC Radio Leeds.
“I absolutely recognise that voice over the the many games that we’ve covered and he has rung in quite a few times after games, but you have shot to fame my friend because of your particular, I’m going to call it goading, of the Doncaster supporters when Tariq Wright’s volley went in.
“Welcome to the podcast and well tell us how it’s been over the last couple of weeks for you.”
AJ: “It’s been, yeah it’s been pretty wild to say the least. I mean it’s been, when that video first took off, I mean I remember waking up the following Sunday morning, opening up TikTok, I’ve seen someone doing a chicken dance at the City game.
“I looked closely because my eyes were half closed, I’m on a second, that’s me! And I think that video’s already got 10,000 views and then all of a sudden it’s been shared across Instagram, Men in Blazers post it, twelfthmantweets post it, it goes on Twitter, gets like two and a half million views there. I’m thinking, blimey, this is wild.
“And some of the comments I’ve had there as well have been saying like some people think I, my accent, are probably even on a level with the likes of Mr Bean, which I thought was very flattering.
“The game against Peterborough was, I mean the number of times I got recognised there and everyone doing the little point and the thumbs up and the wink and everything.
“Even the Peterborough fans, when we scored the first goal, they were all saying, go on, you’ve got to do it, you’ve got to do the chicken dance.
“You see the meme ‘getting pecked by the chicken’, I thought, you know what, if it’s good enough, for Billy Sharp, it’s good enough for me as well, I’m going to properly rile up…
“Right in front of them, start doing the chicken dance, do the little Jordan Gibson point and everything just to wind up that bit more.
“But then all of a sudden I see, you know, a couple of cameras filming me as well, I think, okay, right, let’s go beyond that, let’s single you out and just do the little thumbs up and just properly do it, do that with a flourish.”

In a video, AJ said: “What’s happening everybody, so there’s been quite a lot of speculation recently following that viral video of me doing the chicken dance, as to whether I am who I say I am, whether I am real. Well, here’s the answer to all your questions. Yes, I am real.
“Yes, my name is AJ. No, I am not an AI. No, I am not impersonating someone. Yes, I am the guy who sits next to the away fans winding them up every single game.
“And yes, I will be attending the fixture next week against Peterborough. So whether you still believe me or not, you can see me in action over there next Saturday, and I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
“It’s been a pretty insane week, but honestly, I’m so overwhelmed and so grateful by it all. So thank you all so much and I can’t wait to see you all at the game next Saturday. See you then.”

Max Parsons (@MPWjournalism): “Thereβs a fine line in media where you have to remain professional and opinionated. But I just canβt help it, this video is killing me ππ. If I was in a Norwich away end and had to watch this Iβd lose my head ten times over. Sensational content.”
