Bournemouth 3-2 Liverpool: Adli scores 95th minute winner; Slot and van Dijk angered by officials

Amine Adli scores a 95th minute winner to see Bournemouth beat Liverpool 3-2, with Arne Slot and van Dijk angered by officials.

Bournemouth ended Liverpool’s 13-match unbeaten run, Evanilson putting Bournemouth ahead on 26 minutes, with Virgil van Dijk failing to clear, then Alex Jimenez doubled the scoreline shortly after.

Van Dijk pulled one back for Liverpool just before the break, getting a header on the end of Szoboszlai’s corner, Szoboszlai then had Liverpool level on 80 minutes.

Amine Adli however put the Cherries back in front in the fifth minute of added time, scrambling home after quite the goalmouth scramble, and after a VAR check for foul, the game was given.

The result sees Slot’s side remain 4th in the Premier League table, and suffer a first defeat since November while also remaining winless in 2026 league games. Bournemouth meanwhile climb up to 13th.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola speaking to BBC Sport‘s MOTD: “It is a massive win for us because we were in a difficult situation, especially last week in terms of numbers and in defensive players.

“We are finding ways to get points against difficult opposition. I am very proud of the team and what we are doing. We are adapting and we are getting good points.”

On Liverpool getting a goal just before half-time: “That is when you don’t want to concede. We wanted to go into the dressing room 2-0 up. It was a good goal from van Dijk and we knew we were going to have to push with everything they have done it and we conceded two set plays. But from the 2-2 we started playing better and we felt that we didn’t have anything to loose.”

On if he thought the game wasn’t going to be an open game: “No I think the game was Liverpool-Bournemouth and it was going to be open.

“I think it is a win that we needed. We are now on 30 points, we need the points and we need them as soon as possible. We are still in relegation situation so we still have to fight and go for points.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot speaking to BBC Sport’s MOTD: “It is a cruel game if you lose in extra time after coming back from 2-0 down at half-time.

“I think it was only 5-10 minutes in the first half where we didn’t have total control, we played through them nicely a few times but we conceded twice and we went down to 10 men so that doesn’t help.

“It felt to me that if we were able to make up the 2-1, we would have been back in the game. We were a lot of the time in promising positions but we were 2-0 down and it did feel to me that we were going to score and get back in the game.

“It is fair to say that in the last 10-minutes it was more open but I could see that my players were tired because we only had two days in between each game.”

On when the goals were scored: “It was Bournemouth’s best 10-minutes.

“It is mostly the same few players who have to play and it is safe to say that they were very tired and I cannot blame them, especially if you face a very intense Bournemouth team.”

Slot, speaking to Sky Sports: “Although we were 2-0 down at a certain point, but it’s a good comeback although it didn’t feel to me that we deserved to be 2-0 down at the moment we were, but the players reacted really well. We came back to 2-2 and then I thought it was a very open game where both teams had their chances.

“They probably [had] even more than us which shouldn’t come as a complete surprise to me knowing that we’ve played two days before in Marseille and for the last four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10 games we’ve had to play with the same players for the players we had available and then sometimes a few of them could be at the end of the game a bit tired. I think that’s what you could see at the end today as well.”

On what he was saying to the officials at the end: “I think first of all we have to look at ourselves. It was more open. Both teams were trying to score a goal. They had better opportunities than us in the last 10 minutes and then in the end there was a long throw-in and they scored a goal.

“For me, four minutes of added time was not enough but in the end that didn’t matter because they scored. Although then we could’ve maybe had two or three minutes but this game shouldn’t have had four minutes of extra time. There was already a free-kick that took two or three minutes, there was VAR moments, there was substitutions. That’s what I said to them, that four minutes wasn’t enough.

“We were down to 10 men and then they scored their second and that was the only few minutes bar from the last 10 minutes that we had some problems. But the result was another loss.”

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk speaking to Sky Sports: “I am very disappointed. Last minute of the game is very tough to take, we worked very hard in the second half to get back in the game and to concede that late is disappointing.”

Van Dijk was seen after Bournemouth’s late goal questioning the referee, he explained to us about that: “What I felt on that pitch is that I was blocked but the referee and VAR didn’t give it. I can stand here and say it shouldn’t have been given bit it was, so it is what it is.”

On Bournemouth scoring two goals in seven minutes: “The first goal was a difficult one to judge, the wind was very tricky so it was difficult. To concede that was isn’t an issue but it’s not good. To concede two goals in a short period is not good at all. The goal for us a half-time was really important for momentum in the second-half.

“In the end, that throw in cost us.”

On who to blame for the loss: “After a game and a moment it is easy to say he should have done this, he should have done that and I know that is what will happen but we decided to keep the ball and eventually they got it.

“Losing never feels good especially as a Liverpool player. This season we are trying to find consistency.”

On his team’s togetherness: “I don’t think there is any question about our togetherness but the consistency we are looking for still needs to be found. It is something we have to deal with and we want to perform and we want to win games.”

Bournemouth forward Amine Adli, speaking to BBC MOTD: “I think, like I said before, we play football for moments like this. The people are coming for this and to see all the happiness in everybody, the members of staff, all the people who are working for the club and the fans, it’s for moments like this we play football.

“It’s a crazy moment. Obviously it’s the first time it’s happened to me. The emotions are amazing, but overall it shows the character of the team,. I think we played a very good game against a very tough opponent and this goal is showing all the work rate of the whole team and hopefully I score this one, for sure I’m even more happy. I’m just happy for the team.”

Bournemouth defender Marco Senesi, speaking to Sky Sports about how it feels to win in the last minute: “To be honest, unbelievable. I think we did a very good first half going to 2-0 then they scored, they draw the game. A late winner is perfect for us.

“Unbelievable because we need a win. Everyone below us is getting points, so it is massive for us to win today against a really good side like Liverpool. They are doing amazing and it was a good game and at the end we got the result.

“The team is staying together, doing the work even we have a few injuries and important players for us. Everyone is stepping up and we got an important result today.”

Fans gave their reaction after Amine Adli scores a 95th minute winner to see Bournemouth beat Liverpool 3-2, with Arne Slot and van Dijk angered by officials…

@jaffa_5: There is nothing I enjoy more that seeing Liverpool concede a last second goal and their heads falling off, given how often they steal wins with last second goals against other teams and how many times we have fallen victim to it.

@everton_arent: Take my hats off to Van Dijk there claiming a foul when it was his own man blocking him 😂😂😂

@tom_breedon: The Van Dijk whine to the ref every time Liverpool ship a goal 🤣

@babyduck999: Monumental effort lads in the circs. A point would’ve been incredible but this, well, what an awesome ending to a fantastic game #afcb

@Semenyo_HalfSZN: Thoughts on today: Evanilson was absolutely superb, put in a hell of a lot of work. Jiminez has to be signed permanently. James Hill is the best 1m ever spent and is comfortably prem quality. Christie influencial of the bench. 6 points from 4th, it’s still possible #afcb

@Cherries_FM: People who want Bournemouth gone to make way for West Brom, Middlesborough etc because they’re ’Prime Barclays’ don’t actually watch Bournemouth. We’re one of the closest teams to Prime Barclays that are currently playing. The entertainers… #afcb

@Choudhury08: A truly unforgettable night at the Vitality. Bournemouth beating Liverpool 3–2, in dramatic fashion, under the lights, this is exactly what football is about. This felt earned. We were brave, aggressive, and committed from the first whistle, taking the game to Liverpool rather than fearing them. The intensity, belief, and togetherness were there all night, and the stadium felt it. A huge moment for Alex Jiménez. After weeks of relentless effort, improvement, and strong performances, he finally got his first Bournemouth goal, and it couldn’t have been more deserved. His energy, aggression, and willingness to take responsibility have stood out for weeks now, and this felt like the perfect reward. Another special moment came from Adli. His first goal for the club, and what a way to do it, a 95th-minute winner to sink Liverpool. Calm, brave, and composed in the biggest moment. Scenes. Absolute scenes. Defensively, we had to suffer at times, but there was fight and resilience throughout. We stood up, competed, and stayed in the game even when momentum swung. It was also great to see Alex Tóth make his Bournemouth debut. A first step, a big moment, and hopefully the start of something exciting. With that in mind, you can’t help but hope Rayan gets signed soon and makes his debut next weekend, the future is starting to take shape. This wasn’t just a win. It was belief. It was reward for hard work. It was a reminder of what this group is capable of. Big nights. Big moments.

@zachkaye_afcb: So fucking needed. Alex Scott was everywhere, Christie changed the game when he came on, Jiminez is the best right back in the world. Amine Adli I fucking love you 😍 😍😍😍

@jbafcb77: We have to take momentum now and win next weekend. Wolves have massively improved but we still need to be going there and winning the game. 10 more points to make sure we aren’t dragged into the relegation crap and then we can look upwards UTC 🍒 #afcb

@upthecherries29: I don’t know who to praise for Today’s performance when the whole team was incredible and left it all out there. What a group 🍒❤️🖤#afcb
