We continue our look at the favourites for Leyton Orient manager…
3rd) KEVIN NOLAN
Kevin Nolan was recently linked with the managers job at Bolton Wanderers and Yeovil Town, but didn’t get the job.
He was sacked by Notts County in August 2018, and he was reportedly keen to re-join them around 10 months ago. However the club opted for Neal Ardley instead.
The former Trotters player who made 296 appearances for them between 1999 and 2009, but also an ex-Newcastle, West Ham player took Notts to the League Two playoffs in the 2017/18 season. However, the manager was shown the door after they picked up one point in five league matches, many called the decision to sack him ‘harsh’.
Nolan was also player-manager for Leyton Orient in 2016. His team won three of the four league games in his first full month of management. He was nominated for February’s manager of the month award. On 12 April 2016, with the team two points off the playoffs, Nolan was relieved of his duties as manager, the role given to Andy Hessenthaler.
He was tipped by Plymouth Argyle and promotion winning Bury boss Ryan Lowe to become the new manager, saying he’d be a perfect fit, that he knows the club inside and out but also has a lot of love for them.
He was also linked with the Orient job two months ago.
Current odds on Sky Bet: 8/1
2nd) PAUL TISDALE
Paul Tisdale’s last job was with Milton Keynes Dons, but a poor start to the 2019–20 season saw him achieve only one point from a possible 27 – the worst run of results in the club’s short history – leading to Tisdale’s sacking on the 2nd of November 2019 following a 1–3 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers.
He lead MK to automatic promotion back to League One at the first attempt in the 2018/19 season by achieving a third place finish.
Previous to that, he was manager at Exeter City, but after many failed attempts to take them up in recent seasons, Tisdale left after twelve years at the club. At the time of his departure, Tisdale was the longest serving manager in English football’s top four divisions.
His other honours include:
Western Football League First Division: 2000–01 (Team Bath)
Western Football League Premier Division: 2002–03 (Team Bath)
Conference Premier play-offs: 2008 (Exeter City)
League Two runners-up: 2008–09 (Exeter City)
Current odds on Sky Bet: 7/1
1st) DARYL MCMAHON
Daryl McMahon is currently manager of Macclesfield Town, who were charged in November 2019 with misconduct over the non-payment of players by the EFL and referred to a disciplinary commission. The staff and players approved of a boycott of the Kingstonian fixture in the FA Cup, and planned to for a league match against Mansfield Town, however the strike plans were averted.
The current manager left Ebbsfleet United on the 7th November 2018.
His only honour as a manager is when he won the National League South playoffs in 2017.
He took the Fleet to the National League playoffs in the 2017/18 season but lost out to Tranmere Rovers in the semi final.
Before getting the job at Macclesfield, he was linked with jobs at Oldham, Maidstone, Chesterfield, Wrexham and Cambridge United.
His record with the Silkmen reads, 19 games, 4 wins, 7 draws, 8 defeats.
Current odds on Sky Bet: 6/1
