Ben Foster releases vlog of Wrexham’s win against Notts County with manager’s post-match speech

Ben Foster releases his matchday vlog of Wrexham’s 3-2 win against Notts County with the manager’s sweary yet passionate post-match speech.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper is now a YouTube sensation thanks to his popular YouTube channel, ‘The Cycling GK.’ It has nearly 1.5m subscribers and he can now add to his media fame by being part of the latest “Welcome to Wrexham” sports documentary-series.

Wrexham’s stunning penalty save in sixth minute of injury time against Notts County, put Wrexham back at the top of the table… and on track for promotion to Football League after a 15 year absence.

Here’s the video which has had over a million views in less than 13 hours…

It will be the main plot twist of the TV series, but for Foster, Wrexham was about getting his love for the game back, which he lost in his final season at Watford.

“I didn’t want to come and be a bit of a circus – it’s not about that I promise you,” he explained.

“I didn’t want to come and it would be, ‘Oh he played in the Premier League last year and he does his YouTube and it’s all about getting content’. It’s really not that.

“As a goalkeeper, it was always about the adrenalin buzz when the kick off comes, and the reason I retired was because I wasn’t getting that any more. Towards the end of my final season at Watford I realised ‘this doesn’t feel like it used to feel’. I wasn’t really enjoying it so much.

“And honestly, the buzz at Wrexham is incredible. That penalty save, I’ve played over 500 games and I probably had two of those moments in my career – never done that before, never saved a penalty last minute to win the game. So that just vindicated my decision to carry on playing!”

POST MATCH INTERVIEW

BF: Yeah that’s that’s about as good as it gets it is that’s about as good as it gets the um first of all the the performance was phenomenal what a game like I’m playing in the game and I’m buzzing off it and I’m thinking this is a massive game this is this is the two best teams in the National League by far it’s on BT everybody’s watching um and normally these games well not normally but sometimes these games they don’t live up to the billing they can be a bit drab like teams get a bit nervous um but that is was honestly as good as it gets I can’t remember playing in many better football matches myself personally um and just the drama attached to all of it you know we won all down at half time really good free kick you know we go two one up in the second half and I’m just thinking 20 minutes left let’s come on we can do this just hold on um and then you know we can see it it’s such a poor goal to concede as well not picking up at the back post and then get the free two and then penalty last second it’s just it’s wicked it’s so good honestly

Interviewer: But it shows that never say the attitude of the squad too and go even when it’s 2-2 then pick ourselves up and then go and score and take the lead again minutes later

BF: Yeah well you know we last week sorry last Friday against Halifax you know we’re one little up a hard time we’ve got four and a half thousand fans come to watch us and we we want to put on our show and we keep sending the change with four and a half thousand fans out there that made the travel on a Friday um and then we come out second half and we were brutal absolutely rubbish that’s not what we’re about so we knew we needed to put a performance on today so half time one nil down and it was a similar sort of conversation to what we said last week was lads we were actually 1-0 up last week here at half time and we came out and they battered us 3-1 so we can do the same to these today and we did that’s exactly what we did we came out we got the early goal and you know it was intriguing because they play a real different style of football to us you know but it just goes to show there’s so many ways to skin a cat um it was a it was a really good watch I like I say I hope the neutral at home enjoyed it as much as what we did

Interviewer: Was it almost the perfect way to respond from Friday going into one of the biggest occasions but was built as the biggest game in non-league history to go into the game and then put on a performance like that

BF: Yeah that’s what it was about I’d say first and foremost it’s about the getting the three points you know the three points are massive today for us probably not losing was a big thing for us today um and I’m sure there’s probably a lot of Wrexham fans that even when the penalty got given gone well at least we didn’t lose yeah but to go and get the three points as well it’s just oh it’s so special it really really is um and now we’ve got two days off now um but then we’re back on it on Saturday and there’s four more games left between now and the end of the season and we can’t take any of them for granted either because we saw what Halifax did to us last you know last Friday so every game has to be cliche as you like but cup final for us

Wrexham’s co-owners are Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and Foster admitted, like most people, he thought it was just a gimmick. But after experiencing his own incredible welcome to Wrexham, he has changed his mind.

“They’re so happy, if you could order an absolute bob on, top of the class, top of the range owner, then you would just package them two up because they are as good as it gets,” he added.

“It means so much to them, they were buzzing at the end, they care so much. You can feel it. I was probably the same as everybody else. You’re a cynic, you’re sceptical, thinking it’s a bit of a gimmick.

“But honestly I’ve been here three or four weeks now and the way they do things is so professional and so proper. It is ridiculous how they run it, so fair play to them they deserve all they get.”

Fans reacted as Ben Foster releases his vlog of Wrexham’s win against Notts County with the manager’s post-match speech…

@nicholas_rowe1: What a great vlog. What an amazing game and occasion yesterday. Shame only one team can go up. I always say “cometh the hour, cometh the man” and we saw how Fozzy stood tall when it mattered. Amazing stuff!

@JoshBHA_: Can’t believe Ben foster did a 96th minute penalty save to help Wrexham to promotion out of non league, and that’s the thing he doesn’t get on his GoPro 😂

@ianmurphy342: The anthem in the background, the pin drop silence by the lads the words spoken…GOOSEBUMPS. Thank You Mr Foster

@Jacwrexham10: I liked the bit when he said ” beep beeeeep beeeeeep”. Brilliant insight though this video. Parky the coolest, calmest man on the planet

@SteD1981: Still not over that game it had everything

@Only1Carter: Parky’s team talk 🥲

@conorjns: Disappointing not to see the go pro footage of the penalty save. Did BT sport block him from using it?

@HollowmanDan: I don’t care who you support, this is great viewing! Well, ok maybe not for Notts County fans but they were great yesterday as well. Still buzzing off that yesterday. One of the best games of football I’ve ever watched.

@ChiefyPhil: Parky’s team talk awesome…. what a leader. COYR

@jde_888: Couldn’t love Parky anymore 🫶🏻

@KandtRw: So cool to hear the Cae Ras crowd in the locker room. Didn’t realize the players could hear it so loudly!

@Jharris_CFC: Did @btsportfootball not allow the GoPro footage?!

@MilligansJr: Must have lost the footage from Friday 👀

@LewisRWalsh: Isn’t there a game you’ve forgotten to upload a vlog for @BenFoster? 👀

@james_harpin: Where’s the Halifax vlog then? 😂 Unreal stuff though that. Signed him for that exact reason, money well spent if it gets them up.

@1903bw: Almost like the Halifax defeat didn’t happen, funny that

@DarthPunk69:
Just super 👌
Will never forget this day ❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇳🇿
