Barcelona want to sign Isthmian League goalkeeper

Barcelona want to sign Isthmian League goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and are reported to be preparing a £4 million bid for the player.

The La Liga giants are said to be monitoring the progress of the 18-year-old, who is contracted to Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion but currently plays his football in the seventh division of English football with Worthing.

Scouts for Barca have been sent to watch the shot stopper in action at Woodside Road, according to The Mirror, and are clearly impressed with what they have seen.

Rushworth only joined Brighton from National league side FC Halifax Town in January last year.

He was also called up to England’s under 19’s squad for their European qualifiers against Macedonia, Luxembourg and Bosnia in November last year.

Worthing currently sit five points clear at the top of the Isthmian League Premier Division table, winning 19 games, drawing 6 and losing 3. They’ve scored 63 in 28 league games and conceded 34.

Barcelona have previously splashed the cash on young English talent.

Just last year, they brought in Louis Barry, who was described as “one of the best young players in English football” when the they signed him from West Brom.

In joining the club, he became the first ever English player to join the academy from which the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi and Andres Iniesta graduated.

However he recently departed the Nou Camp after 10 appearances (after delayed registration), scored twice, and has since joined Premier League side Aston Villa in a reported £3 million deal.

Fair to say Carl Rushworth has got a very bright future ahead of him.

It would certainly be an incredible step up for the keeper should the deal go through!
