Arsenal fan pleads Arteta to sign shirt as he drives home, and despite boss already declining

An Arsenal fan pleads with Mikel Arteta to sign a shirt as he drives home, and despite the boss already declining.

The incident happened on Sunday night outside Emirates Stadium, with Arteta defended on social media for prioritising safety with his family in the car amid being surrounded by a crowd.

Other social media users questioned if the shirt was really for the fan’s son or was going to be resold, showing just how tense a situation like this between a supporter and managers can get after matches.

The game itself saw Arsenal score four goals inside opening 30 minutes, Noni Madueke with opener, Gabriel Martinelli doubling the lead, Wigan’s Jack Hunt with an own net and Gabriel Jesus scoring a fourth in the 27th minute. Bukayo Saka starts after Riccardo Calafiori pulls out of warm-up

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports: “Very good.

“We made a lot of changes and some players needed some minutes. We started the game very, very well. We had some great actions collectively and individually. The first half made the difference.”

On the players who came in: “Very good. These are the games they can gain experience.

“It is what we need. We have some important players out at the moment and need to make sure they are in a good moment and ready to play and ready to compete.”

On Riccardo Calafiori and Ben White injuries: “Let’s see in the next day or two.”

Arteta speaking to the BBC: “We started so well. We made a lot of changes because of players who needed minutes and deserve minutes as well. I’m very pleased with the way we started the game and the intensity that we showed, the connections between players and the threat we had. The first-half made a difference, obviously.”

No difficulties after so many changes: “We tried a few different things as well because of some players not being available. I’m very pleased because the players did so well.”

Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres playing together for the first time: Very good. We had an opportunity to try different things and different connections. From here until the end of the season, I’m sure we’re going to use them.”

On the performance of Christian Norgaard: “He was exceptional again. I’m not surprised. The way he prepares himself, the way he trains every single day, and looks after himself and his team-mates.When this happens, you can play in any context. I’m very pleased with him.”

Wigan caretaker boss Graham Barrow, speaking to TNT Sports: “We recovered [from being 4-0 down], that was the main thing. They’ve got two teams really within their squad. We are a bit disappointed with the goals we conceded but to dig in like we did to stop that… I thought the players did excellent in the second half. In essence they gave everything they got.

“Arsenal were relentless. I am really pleased for the players as it has been a tough time. There have been positives and the players stuck together, that is the main thing.

“We take from this the spirit and we tried something at 4-0 down going to a back four and it worked. I think we have enough to stay up, that is the main thing.”

On when a permanent manager could be appointed: “Hopefully something happening in the next few days, we are just hearing rumours.”

Here’s how fans reacted after an Arsenal fan pleads Mikel Arteta to sign a shirt as he drives home, and despite the boss already declining…

@SimonLester24: He’s on his way home from his job. He really doesn’t need to be harassed like that, especially as he has his wife with him. Respect his privacy, decent manners cost nothing.

@clarkey85steve: When Mikel Arteta is with his wife and kids he is not Mikel Arteta Arsenal Manager he is Mikel Arteta husband and father.

@TheGunnerStefan: Leave the man alone people are entitled to their privacy

@CannonOnCrest1: A full grown middle aged man harassing a manager to sign a shirt so that he can sell it on eBay after we win something and it becomes even more valuable. It’s understandable when it is a child, but not for that clown.

@StefanBrown4: His family are in the car, I’m not opening the window either. Get a life man

@JoeAtkin_95: Literally just fuck off and leave him alone? Geezer wants to get home, doesn’t need twats bellowing at his car door like this

@PapaPincus: People will slate him for this but once you open the window you open the floodgates and he would’ve been swarmed by everyone else standing there… Then more than 1 person would’ve felt let down.

@TomAFC17: Literally got his wife and kids in the car and is most likely advised not to open the window to anyone

@AshishAFC: Fans need to really understand boundaries, what is this behaviour ? The man has declined, there’s a reason he has, he’s in a personal conversation with his family, stop invading their personal space. The players and the manager are exposed enough to the fanbase and the media.

@Brad_S9: For the ones saying he should sign the shirt? What world do you live in. The guys in his car with his family and soon as he winds his window down it invites much more people to his car and tbh he owes this fan nothing. This fan could be harmless but I’d rather not take a chance
