Arbroath player goes viral after scoring stunning goal against AFC Fylde

Arbroath player Bobby Linn goes viral after scoring his third stunning goal this week – with the latest against AFC Fylde.

The 36 year old is bouncing back from last season’s promotion play-off heartache with vengeance after netting three screamers in the matter of days.

His side were defeated in last season’s Premiership play-off semi final after seeing his crucial spot kicked saved by Inverness keeper Mark Ridgers, losing out in the title race to Kilmarnock on the penultimate day.

Now the winger, who has finished celebrating his testimonial year, is hoping to make up for the hearts that were broken by kicking off the new season in style.

Bobby Linn got back to goal scoring form with two screamers against FC Edinburgh on Saturday and another against National League side AFC Fylde on Wednesday night.

Linn opened his account on Saturday with a stunning right footed volley, and the second goal of the game was arguably better than as he picked the ball up around 40-yards out on the right wing before going forward with the ball, cutting inside and smashed home from distance in his side’s 3-1 victory at Meadowbank.

Linn will be raring to go having been restricted to mostly sub appearances for much of last season.

He also scored a belter in Wednesday night’s friendly against AFC Fylde as buried the ball into the net again from distance.

The winger stood over a free kick, 35-yards out, and struck yet another thunderbolt that Fylde keeper Chris Neal couldn’t keep out due to the ball’s wicked movement in the air before heading to the top right corner making it a third stunner of the week.

The clip has gone on to get over 75,000 views within 24 hours.

Arbroath’s Bobby Linn spoke on the ‘devastating’ end to last season and needed to shut himself away for a bit to get over the penalty shootout defeat.

“That was devastating,” Linn said as per The Courier. “Anyone who knows me knows that was a tough weekend.

“I took a week off everything, pretty much. I needed to get my head right.

“I didn’t do anything, just spent time around my family.

“Then I got myself going again with my boxing and then into work and seeing people again.

“It was a difficult one. I think everybody felt it.

“That was in the past but we’re moving forward now.”

“You are going to have highs and lows in football,” he said. “It doesn’t define you but you need to react to it, that’s what I feel I have done.

“The way I’ve been brought up, I’m a fighter, I reacted well.

“I got myself fitter, sharper, leaner. I feel that’s paying off in preseason.

“Hopefully that’s giving the gaffer a headache to get a bit more game time.

“You need to work hard to get into the team, I know that more than anybody.

“To come in and get a couple of goals is nice, but we want to win the games.”

Arbroath won all of their League Cup games so far, scoring seven with just the one conceded.

Linn wants his side to continue that form and produce another odds-defying season when the Championship kicks off in a couple of weeks’ time.

“It has been a while since I scored so it was nice,” he said of his game-winning strikes against FC Edinburgh. “The win is what matters; it just keeps building momentum for us.

“Look at last season, we only lost four or five games, an incredible stat.

“We have to keep doing that. If you don’t concede you don’t lose and if we can score goals we have always got a chance.”
